    This is b**sh** from one point of view. A company may choose to invest a lot of money in a band and in promoting it, but these expenses will be paid by selling more songs, hence more revenue. On the other hand, it's up to the band (or angency, or record-company) how much they want to ask for their music. Eventually it's up to the fans if they want to pay ie $2,00 for a song or maybe $3,00 for a whole album. I think this shouldn't be up to apple, who's just a reseller of music...

    Judging from the view that Bush represents (=equals) big money:

    * exalts the nation and party above the individual, with the state apparatus being supreme.
    * exalts large corporationa above the individual, with the large corporations being supreme.

    * stresses loyalty to a single leader, and submission to a single culture.
    * stresses loyalty to big corporations, and submission to a single culture (=capitalism).

    * engages in economic totalitarianism through the creation of a Corporatist State, where the divergent economic and social interests of different races and classes are combined with the interests of the State.

    That's hwat I said when winXP came out. Win98SE was working perfectly for me. IN fact, at my office I still have 60% of the pc's running on win98SE. But WinXP does have quite some advatges (also disadvantages btw). I guess people will always be saying this, I have an aunt who's still longing for the dos-prompt. Thw switching to linux-desktops is being made however and I think vista won't be enrering the office...

    I think the main factor in this is the brainwashing by the media but also the indoctrine by the governement. From where I live, in the Netherlands, it appears that the whole of the US has gone mad and is afraid. In the US you're either for Bush or for the terrorists, so it seems. The media have taken the same stance, but perhaps this is due to the owners of the media...

    works fine in 1.5beta... I ran into this problem a week ago (on 1.06 obviously) and heard the following possible solution. My page had a in it. Removing this made the page work as it should.

    Cgate-pro is software which I didn't mind buying. I've been using it for years in one company now and it's much easier then the qmail-solution I put in another company. If you calculate the hours you're busy configuring C-gate is actually cheaper with much more options (like calendering, SIP etc). A complete solution (and no, I don't work there either).

    It's like swearing in the church (as we in Holland use to call it). Actually, in my company I've made the same calculation. I use some program's which only work with MS Office and it would cost me more to have them rewritten then to buy the 10 licenses for ms-office. Also, the employees would have to learn openoffice/staroffice which is easily done, but the time it will take to give support for questions like "how do I change my stylesheet", "how does this work..." etc will cost me even more then the licenses alone...

    I didn't make the presentation in time, had too much of a hangover from the night before (many thanks to the volunteers working behind the bar pouring me all that beer and to the dj's for playing the great music...)

    IMHO, these are related organisations with the specific purpose of software and not digital rights (freedom of speech etc) as such.

    Of course there's the European Digital Rights-EDRI (http://www.edri.org/) which is the joint organisation for digital rights in Europe. In the UK the
    * Campaign for Digital Rights-CDR (http://ukcdr.org/)
    * the Foundation for Information Policy Research-FIPR (http://www.fipr.org/) and
    * Greennet (http://www.gn.apc.org/)
    are members. I would suggest consulting them first.

    We've been doing this for some years in the Netherlands now and even got a special word for the html-page filling in the forms on the spammers website, it's called a "braatolizer". The process of filling in is called "braten". It's really effective against spammers. Ok, so it's illegal... It's also illegal to send spam. Ok, so you overload the network of the host, they shouldn't be hosting the website at all. There's a simple remedy, take the website offline.

    sliding OT:
    In the Netherlands the ministers are selected by the "formateur", who is appointed by the crown (now queen Beatrix). The ministers are then appointed by the same crown who, as is inherent by it's nature, isn't appointed at all. In the next couple of years some of this will change, but in general, silly as it may seam, everything seems to work out fine (ok, except for the current governement lead by Harry Potter which can't make even -one- good decission...)

    mod this one up! You'd have to convert the grass to methanol or ethanol first. Then you can feed this to a fuell-cell. Then there's no nitorgenoxides or sulfuroxied produced. In the cleaning of the bio-oil which you produce when turning grass into an alcohol you can take away the sulfurs and convert them into harmless compounds and use SO4 to fixate pollution with heavy metals in groudnwater for example...

    I do soil-research for a living. From farmers I learned that about 30 years ago they would spray diesel (not motoroil as the carbons are too heavy and it contains too much pollution) over the carrot-crops as a fertilizer. So you're comment is not far from truth.

    Burning grass would close the CO2-cycle, but asides from the fact that growing grass uses lots of water, as mentioned in the thread, the process of burning releases nitrogenoxides and sulfuroxides which also contribute to the greenhouse-effect. Therefore one would have to convert the pellets into a gas or, better yet, a carbon which gets into a gasoues state at about 150C. Then you can feed this to a fuell-cell. Why use hydrogen when you can use ie ethanol and methanol. Big advantage: everyone gets happier:=)

    Let them sue. Then they have to prove in court that the wire actually contains the mp3's. For that the RIAA have to develop a reader. Finally something usefull for their money. On the other hand, they'll probably ask massive licensing-costs and sue the hell out of anybody who's "illegally" making use of this technology....

    It was already discussed before, there are numerous patents the kernel could be infringing upon, no secrecy or suprise here. The SCO-thing is about copyrights which is something different. Afaik we have well enough copyright-laws around here.
