In VB.NET, Build and Rebuild are the same thing! If you change one class and do a build, on a large project it can take MINUTES.

The same project and change in c# can take SECONDS to build.

The time savings alone could buy a lot of stuff.

If I'm understanding it correctly, this is a system to keep out the users that are using google hacks. If someone finds your site because of a search string that matches a certain signature, I'm guessing that you could ban them. So if they find your site by searching for "top secret alien government technology", you can ban that user.

Here is a FAQ question from their site:
      What is a honeypot?
A honeypot is, to quote Lance Spitzner founder of the Honeynet Project:

"An information system resource whose value lies in unauthorized or illicit use of that resource."

Simply put a honeypot is something that appears to be vulnerable, but in reality is recording illicit use by malicious attackers.

GHH allows administrators to track malicious hosts: observe who is perpetrating the attack and how it is being executed via the log. The data generated by this, or any other honeypot can be used to deny future access to attackers, notify service providers of attacks originating from their networks or act as an input for statistical analysis.

If you ever saw the book called "A first look at ASP.NET 2.0", it had some demos of the new technologies that would be in ASP.NET 2.0. Once of them was an AJAX style client-side callback.

People act like AJAX is some magical new technology, when in reality, it's been used for years. Microsoft is just one of the companies who offered a "framework" to make it easier to develop. If they end up integrating it into their controls, it will be huge.

And for reference, I believe their demo worked in Firefox as well.

If anything, the AJAX popularity will just give them a little kick in the ass to move more quickly.

That's just plain wrong. For example, we have a product that stores historical data. When the time changes, we always have problems. When the time moves backward, the software sees the "same" hour twice. Our software actually just ignores the data from that hour.

There is no perfect way to handle that. To show the data for those hours, you would have to ask the user if they want to see the first 2-3 o'clock, or the second 2-3 o'clock.

Getting rid of DST would definitely make things easier, but existing software my need quite a bit of work.

  18. Put it in our taxes on When Would You Accept DRM? · · Score: 1

I ALMOST think that we should just pay a rental fee in our taxes.

Wouldn't it be great if you had free access to all media (songs, video, etc)? When you download something, that could count as a popularity vote for that piece of media. The government could then distribute the money accordingly.

Obviously there are people who wouldn't like that, but I'm all for it.

If everyone paid it yearly, I can't imagine it would cost much. No DRM would be needed. Everyone could use the media however they want. No one would be wasting money on DRM or lawsuits. For the same amount that most people are paying now, they could listen to any music they want, watch any movie, or read any book. Wouldn't that be great?

Most people don't distingush the 2 concepts, and they just say that they don't believe in evolution, but they don't really know what evolution is, and that there are multiple types.

I like to show that our evolution is very possible based on the fact that things DO evolve, and it would be unlikely that we are an exception to that process.

Right now there are just too many variables to rely on a review of these services. All they do is give you a starting point. You may be able to use them to decide if some of them are lacking features that you require.

I think you should pick a couple that the most people had luck with, and use their free trials. If they don't work well for you, send back the equipment.

For example, I tried out Packet8, and it didn't work well for me. It does however, work great for others. I sent it back, they gave me back the money.

I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it when trialability is high.
