  1. Prostar on Dell's Gaming Monster · · Score: 1

Anyone every heard of prostar? My rig from them rocks all, and it's a lot cheaper usually from them than anything Dell or Alienware like.. www.pro-star.com or I got mine from www.xtremenotebooks.com..

  3. LCD vs CRT vs others on Display Format Technologies Comparison · · Score: 1

A lot of people doing comparisons on CRT vs LCD.. A lot of what matters is your refresh rate + resolution.. My prostar laptop can do 1600x1200 at 120Hz.. Yeah, that's fast.. It'll go all the way to 200Hz at 640x480.. Only down side is that I have one hotpixel that's green, on the far far right of the screen(It's in the shaded left area of the scroll button). I work selling TVs, and I look at them all day long.. from my experience the DLP picture quality is far beyond that of LCD, mostly in terms of contrast ratio. The plasma looks nice, if you're sitting far enough back, but get close to you, and it's very poor. We haven't gotten a LCoS display yet for me to tinker with and judge, but they seem promising. It's nice to judge and debate about what technology choice is the best right now, but in truth, very few televisions currently on the market are a great buy, in fact, I tell all of my friend and family to wait as long as possible right now, for HDTV.. Reasons include the fact that older tv's are becoming obsolete as far as picture quality, the lower resolutions of most of todays HDTVs (We only sell one that I can think of off the top of my head at Sears that will do 1920 or whatever, and it's a 73" Mitsubishi), and the declining costs. Don't worry about your CRTs going away, we still sell far more of them than anything else, and people aren't nearly ready to pay several times more for less picture quality AND a smaller screen. CRTs are going to be around for years still.

  4. Re:Burn-in on Display Format Technologies Comparison · · Score: 1

Rear projection is easy to burn in.. And hard to get rid of.. But, as long as you keep it adjust right, and don't display the same stuff on it all the time, you'll be fine, no worries. Things to watch out for are display models that have been showing 4:3 pictures (Assuming they weren't reformated of course). The Dish system was down at Sears last weekend, and we had to be careful to not leave our plasmas and our projections showing the aquiring signal screen to prevent the burn in issue.. It's a big hassle..

  7. Re:Weather related problems.. on Experiences with DirecWay Satellite Internet · · Score: 3, Informative

I work at Sears where we sell Dish. As far as weather related problems, we usually only run into them in the kind of storms where you wouldn't want to have your machines on most likely anyway. Im not 100% sure about Direct, but I would imagine that installation is free, they tend to want you to get their product and like it without having to go through the hassles that would initially create a hostile relationship. With that said, I had a friend that had Sat. internet a couple years ago, and while I'm not sure who was hosting his $80/month service, it was extremely fast for doing your average web browsing and downloading.

  12. My Experience on Tech Scholarships for College/University? · · Score: 2, Interesting

100% of my college is paid for through academic scholarship. That just leaves room and board, which scholarship covers part of. So I work, something like 15 hours a week at Sears. Not only does it make me focus more on my studies, but it keeps me motivated, because I know that my free time goes toward paying for my education, and also prevents me from just giving up. I might try writting a generic essay and just flooding every scholarship you see with it. It'll be very very simple to do and could let you reap huge rewards. I'd try writting one and submitting it for a couple hours a day for a few days and see how things turn out :) Best of luck!

  19. Lines on Radio Credit Cards Move Closer · · Score: 1

Working at Sears it's not uncommon to have 3-4 customers standing around the register in the middle of the department.. What's to say that someone leaning up against a register or simply walking by when the sale is totaled isn't going to charge them?
For example, the main register in our electronics department is right across from the VCRs and just down from the DVD players.. So busy times forces a crowded aisle where people are forced to squeeze past and often brush up against the register.

Security wise.. there are already so many instances of theft and fake cards that this probably won't create a significant number of problems anyway. Besides, most of the theft I encounter results from people opening up an account (Usually a Sears gold Mastercard) with a stolen social security number and a driver's license that their buddy at the DMV has made. All of which has nothing to do with the physical card itself.
