LOL, my wife was actually the roommate of a girl I had dated for about 2 months. I occasionally sent her an IM to check how she was holding up (she has and continues to have a number of major health problems), and she started hinting that her roommate was single. Then one day she just randomly handed the computer over to her roommate. Point taken. So, we met up to see a band, drank, hooked up, and where I really shined was making pancakes the next morning. For all of the stereotypes about how men are shallow, women are entirely capable of being far, far more cruel and arrogant about looks.
Fun fact, all MGM owned casinos in Las Vegas donate 100% of their food scraps to a local pig farmer, who in turn has very fat healthy pigs. Those pigs are then sold at a great discount to MGM owned casinos in Las Vegas. It's a fantastic system.
I already compost all of my food waste, most of which goes into my garden. What little there is, anyway. I spent too many years nearly starving, so usually when we cook (which is about 98% of what we eat) it goes through 3 cycles of leftover re-hashes until it's all gone. What can't be used immediately gets frozen and used later. My wife and I live on 60$ a week for groceries, which includes all toiletries, paper products, and cleaning goods. Learn to compost and make use of your food intelligently and responsibly - life is cheaper, and better for the environment. And a proposal like this one will do exactly nothing to your life.
Honestly, I think it's because those of us who submit actual scientific/geeky/nerdy articles gave up trying to make decent headlines/summaries after the 100+th one failed to get greenlit. Folks start doing more and more to get something to get folks attention with their articles.
You cannot permanently defend technology with more technology, just add timesinks. If you create a killswitch, you add multiple attack vectors - either the people who control access to the killswitch themselves, the people who designed the killswitch, or the possibility of brute forcing or exploiting that killswitch.

This is yet another place where the victims (and they ARE victims), in their move to try and stop the information from spreading, completely ignored that the Streisand Effect is a very real and powerful thing. Honestly, a better approach would have been the Paris Hilton/Kim Kardashian approach, "Ok, I can't get rid of this, may as well make an official distribution channel and make money off of it." But obviously, given the personal nature of the leak, they'd have to be ok with that decision and its moral implications. It's a shitty way to make lemonade out of lemons though, but lawsuits and DMCA notices will almost always backfire on the internet.

Except you would never nuke Mexico if you were the US, especially if you were trying to protect the northern Mexican states. Emotionally, what's actually happening is likely based on polarization (where two social groups with slightly differing views tend to become more and more extreme in those views in an effort to distance themselves from "the other") and group polarization where members of a group allow themselves to become more and more socially extreme in the name of the group.

This is very much true. He's intelligent enough to work not only as a highly decorated KGB serviceman, but also to quickly climb the rungs of power in what is most certainly a very corrupt country. To clarify on this because some people find it confusing, basically "beyond a reasonable doubt" means 12 jurors need to be about 95% sure that you're guilty. Preponderance of evidence is akin to "more than 50% sure". That's why people can be acquitted of criminal charges, but found liable on civil charges.
You're forgetting a key point - the hardware must be used within 1 year of receipt by the department. Something to consider when departments are getting free grenade launchers.

They'll provide the guns to terrorists, which will be used as a point requiring larger budgets for the military, the military purchases even more guns, more of those guns go to the police, and the cycle continues. Self-deletion is a very bad idea. Statutes of limitations on crimes are upwards of 5 years all the way to forever (in the case of murder). Everything that camera records is evidence. Letting it delete itself is the same thing as intentionally deleting. They need to set up retention systems to store that data for at least 5 years. Suppose officers assault someone to the point where they're hospitalized. That person is comatose for weeks, only to come out of it and find out that the video has been deleted? Bad results.
Yep. Another step they could take to deter rioting is respecting the state's sunshine laws about disclosing information. Violating state law by making up non-existant loopholes to try and protect the officer from having his name get out shows a lot of ineptitude. 1 man being scared for his life is a significantly smaller issue than an entire town terrified that there is a kid killer on the loose and that the police are protecting his identity. Remember, if this goes to trial, it's going to be an affirmative defense. The shooter won't deny he killed the kid, he'll argue he was justified in shooting the kid. The public has a right to know who is a killer and who isn't.
