  1. Where are all those look alikes? on Saddam Hussein Arrested · · Score: 1

First things first. Where are those WMDs which can strike europe and United States in few hours notice? We have been made to believe that Saddam has so many look alikes. How come not a single one is caught?? U.S. Media in general discredited Saddam and his government with its propoganda supressing the "real" stuff. The real stuff is there are real terrorists somewhere. Bush and his pals doesn't know how to get them. Iraq is an easy target and makes tremendous economic and political sense. No doubt Saddam gassed kurds and is a despotic ruler. He shouldn't have become president in first place which as a matter of fact is courtesy of United States. He was propped up by United States to wage war against Iran. Saddam used very same weapons he got from united states against Kuwait. Good thing...there will be an end to all this violence though some puppet govt. will be in place soon. Atleast citizens of Iraq will lead a better life..

  2. Re:Well lets see... on Radio Credit Cards Move Closer · · Score: 1

How about a mechanism which "shuts off" your card when you aren't at a checkout point? How about a personal "digital signature" device (RFID) to go with (which might have more general use) to sign your reciept? Now, combine this with free wifi access and programmable cell phones. There are many possibilities. I am not saying there aren't any problems, though. There are always issues with bugs and security. These are problems not associated with technology but with society and how good we can do a job.

  3. Programmable? on Radio Credit Cards Move Closer · · Score: 1

This is a great idea if cards are programmable. For example I can "shut off" my card using some kind of web interface or a cell phone! I can do this when I am not planning on using my cc for a while. i.e. I can disable and enable my card at will. This will boost security since you hold the switch if card will work or not though it sends wireless signal. Further, there shouldn't be many cases of "physical" stealing of credit cards but "electronic" thefts which are far more easier to track and minimise. Ofcourse, we are always skeptical of new technology until we see someone makes billions out of it.

Umm..I can see the next step. You can opt-in for some sort of subscription through with you can get "support" through email by code maintainers.

  5. Can this be everywhere.? on Phoenix School to Install Face Scanners · · Score: 1

I see couple of issues here. Firstly, sex offenders are barred from going in to schools? They must have already got punishment for what they have done. Isn't it violation of their free movement? There should be problems with technology too. I wonder how cameras would be able to capture a mugshot of person going in and out of school. If this is so reliable then "theoretically" all security cameras installed just about everywhere (Shopping malls, airports, ATMs, Traffic lights) should be able to work this way. Pretty scary scenario.

My windows XP checks for updates everytime I reboot. I do not switch off the machine and XP being stable, I boot less frequently. I have to manually download all these patches. What about people who are not aware of them? "Stable windows" can cause problems too. How ironic!

I hope these governments will pay back too. If they are benefitting from open source, they should somehow invest to promote open source software.

Perhaps..they should move to a different business model. You will get windows for free. But you have to pay for patches!!!

It won't take a lot of effort to turn any topic on India to turn it into a "outsourcing" issue. I will bite this bait. It is unfortunate that people see "outsourcing" as something "new". Well, we have been guzzling Pepsi and Coke, wearing Levis and Gap, and all our computers run Intel chips. Not to mention our cars. US is biggest arms supplier to India after Russia. Many of our manufacturing firms import machinery from US. Isn't this a form of oursourcing? Aren't our jobs in beverages, chip manufacturing, clothing industry, defense industry, are being outsourced to "efficient machines" and "assembly lines" in U.S.? I can put figure on something here. India is looking to buy about 20 Boeing planes from united states. U.S. congressmen are lobbying real hard (to beat AirBus) because it will generate the business of $4 Billion and 47,000 jobs. This is peanuts compared to tech support jobs. From economic point of view I would say "outsourcing" is a "win-win" situation. Unfortunately, US is not feeling benefits of "outsourcing" because of its CEOs. Has anyone bothered to ask why they deserve such a huge pay rises? Perhaps, US should fix their CEOs..first to realize benefits of outsourcing than to harp about fear of loosing their jobs!
