Linux has been the latest fad (and this is in no way a criticsm of Linux) amongst the psuedo-geeks who want to be cool by running Linux.
Most of these people don't know how or why they should lock down their boxes and keep their packages up to date.
Part of the problem is that many distros enable a lot of services by default, and over time, they become vulnerable to the latest buffer overflows and get rooted eventually by people who don't know about them.
The blame really doesn't go to Linux for its design. It just happens to be popular amongst people who don't know squat about security, though it would help if more distros would lock things down by default.
If a child is being harmed in the production of the porn, then yes I am against it. That is not a free speech issue.
As far as your cartoon issue, it should be protected under free speech (I'm a libertarian, and I understand that the Supreme Court has redefined the meaning of the 1st Amendment to exclude such things, but I am speaking in pure terms here), its the parent's job to instill the right values in their kids, not society.
However, you continue to dodge my point. Who is being protected from who by banning the airing of political commercials on radio and TV? If you are in support of this, shouldn't you be in support of banning ALL political speech by campaigns and interest groups before an election?
So what that it costs money? It costs money to produce pamphlets and postage for direct mail too. Why aren't those banned in the days before an election? Are you in support of this too?
Free speech is being stopped if the government says "You cannot air political ads right before an election" on radio or TV.
The reason why its banned at polling stations is because it would be a distraction that would inhibit the voting process and could run into some ethical issues. I do not see why its "obvious" that it would be banned on broadcast media, unless you were actually in support of censorship.
What did I say about money? Did you read anything I said at all?
I am talking about political advertisements. Please get off your "money is not speech" rant. I dont even know what the hell Janet's tit has to do with this either.
It was many of your "Democrats" in the Supreme Court who recently found the anti-free speech parts of the campaign finance laws to be perfectly constitutional
At least your ISP actually calls you to inform you of a problem.
I have Houston Roadrunner (cable), and they shut me off twice (with not even a phone warning or call to see "whats up") becuase someone here got a nasty trojan and it sniffed away our web account password. Some rather indecent pictures got posted by whomever received the password which resulted in the suspension of my account. It took much phone wrangling to get it taken care of and no apologies whatsoever for disconnecting me.
Even Microsoft isn't likely to spend the money and bad PR that would be involved in suing the thousands of people who are probably going after the source code.
There is nothing misleading about what Tirel did - he simply posted releveant portions of the article. The hypocrisy here is that when the article is slashdotted, such copying and pasting is rewarded, but here it is not. That is blatant hypocrisy.

Whatever happened to reading the book and applying the concepts?
Its this "creativity" bullcrap I have to put up with in high school that is retarding my education. Instead of giving me points for effectively showing knowledge of and applying the concepts, I get points deducted for not having neat cutesy skits, posters, etc.
They don't hand-hold you in university, why should you be hand-held in high school?
I use FreeBSD, Windows, and OS X in addition to Linux.
If the many people who said Linux is not in violation and SCO is incorrect are right, then why should the kernel be patched? Legally, this can be used to bolster their argument against Linux.
You can't legally deem that your payment is suddenly worth a few extra channels and hack the cable/sat network. It's still theft and against the law. The same logic applies to cable modems.
Your analogy is seriously flawed. Sattelite and cable signals are already coming into your house. You're not taking something that you're not paying for - the signals are already in your house.
Whereas uncapping your cable modem is theft - you are actually taking something that normally wouldn't be getting from the cable company in any circumstance
"In its report, the organization also refers to several companies, including Cisco Systems, Microsoft, Nortel Networks, Websense and Sun Microsystems, which have reportedly provided technology which has been used to censor and control the use of the Internet in China.
While I appreciate the fact that someone cares, why isn't Amnesty making a big deal about how many of these companies (Cisco, Websense, Microsoft, etc) are providing products to various levels of domestic (USA) government to "censor and control the use of the Internet" in the land of the "free"?
Why is this marked a troll? This is how they did it in the old days and this is how they still do it in many places (not in the USA).
911 is nice, but geez, come ON PEOPLE. Grow up and learn to get along with people with different opinions.
back before 911 even existed, what did people do?
they actually kept the phone numbers of the local police, fire, and medical services next to their phone.
I dont see why we cant ask people who choose not to use regular phone lines to be a little bit responsible for themselves
NPR was one of the many vocal corporate voices lobbying against LPFM. If I remember, NPR was one of the most vocal opponents.
You can make backups of your CD and DVD collection. You cannot do the same for a car.
Your analogy fails.

No, your logic fails you yet again.

Whatever happened to the common carrier laws?
i.e. you are not responsible for the acts of you users, you are only required to comply with subponeas, etc.
Of couse. I hate both parties, but it did get plenty of Democrat support in Congress too. It was a bi-partisan bill.
What did I say about money? Did you read anything I said at all?

So not being able to air a political attack ad on radio or TV 60 (or is it 30 ?) days before an election is not anti-free-speech?
Even worse is the fact that news outlets are exempt from this law, and its not like news outlets are exactly fair or balances in their reporting.
I'm sorry, but political speech is one of the most important rights we have, and even that is being chipped away.

Why? The RIAA is doing it to file swappers.
Why was this modded down but the grandparent wasnt? The stuff described is true and well-documented.
Or is it that the moderation here is blatantly biased and the mods dont want a true discussion of the facts?
I've met plenty of good and bad *BSD and Linux users, but censoring the facts isn't going to get anyone anywhere.
You call anyone a troll who disagrees with you?
I call troll on you, sir.

and your naive to think the FBI wouldn't be watching while you download?
Busted downloading how?
Were you on a porn company's website downloading using a leaked password? Or were you using a P2P application?
Inquiring minds want to know.
People damage society, not drugs.
How does this make me a zealot?
I use FreeBSD, Windows, and OS X in addition to Linux.

That would be an admission of guilt.

I'm about to go onto college. I planned on majoring in CompSci, but I don't want to move aboard to get a job.
Are Electrical Engineers having any similar problems with jobs being outsourced?
Which degree should I get?
