The title of "October Documents" traditionally only goes to leaked memos from Micros~1. This, however, is from the comedy campaign of "Get the (pseudo)Facts". You see, there is a difference.......
Well, there is coLinux (hard to setup), Cygwin (A port of GNU to Windows, easy to setup), and User Mode Linux's Cygwin port (easy as UML for Linux, just needs the linux binary and cygwin.dll). I think that Linux compatibility is well handled by the Opensource community..........
You could try the -tiny branch of the Linux 2.6 kernel. Please note, however, that I have yet to actually try out linux-tiny, so you may or may not have luck with this. I will reply to this, either here, or via e-mail once I have actually gotten linux-tiny to run (weekend project).
I'll tell you why the Jabber developers don't know about UI design..... It's because Jabber is an IM protocol, not an actual program. It's kinda like the difference between HTTP and Mozilla Firefox......

At Home Depot, they seem to have Linux running on Dells with IceWM as the windowmanager for X11. If only they wouldn't use the Dell systems (we hates these nasty Dell's, don't we, precious. Yes, we hates them, precious).
I was under the impression that NASA astronauts were trained to make oxygen filters out of common materials such as socks and other pieces of clothing. Perhaps the astronauts have also ran out of clothing....
Seems kind of interesting that the people up there would be running on the emergency supplies right now. Perhaps they are considering using the currently-attached Soyuz capsule in order to be able to drop down to earth just to be able to breath sometime soon.....

Sorry. You are just a collection of molecules. "You are the way you are" implies that we were designed. When you finally accept that we are simply the result of billions of years of atoms creashing into one another, then you will be able to accept that we can tinker with ourselves to improve ourselves. Somehow we feel that manipulating ourselves is wrong. By whose standards?
I am strongly for doing whatever it takes to be more intelligent, stronger, and without the annoying side effects of billions of years of evolution.

Try the Wine/OSX port.
About the Linux Kernel....
Have you tried the -tiny branch of the 2.6 kernel?
It's real! Hurray!
And their was much rejoicing. Yay.
The modern iMac uses the OpenFirmware standard, and their implementation is under the same license as the Darwin kernel.

So that would be 4 years, 1 month for Linux to beat MS before we have to hack our BIOS to get Linux to run......
