Independent Ralph Nader is also asking for a recount in Ohio, Florida, New Hampshire, and North Carolina. Kerry won NH, Bush won the rest. Polls had Kerry ahead by 10%, but he won only by 1%. I'd like to see a recount too, because we use those optical scan ballots that have been in controversy lately.

You didn't RTFA did you. The major problem in Florida is not with any of the evoting machines, it was with optically scanned paper ballots. E-Voting machines produced roughly the same numbers as exit polls; the paper ballots did not. Take a look at this this graph.

I understand that the electronic voting machines have problems, but that is not the specific issue here. Look, if Bush won, FINE, I can accept that. But, we need to make sure he did it legitimatly, or we will lose our democracy.

Let me start by saying I am as skeptical as you. I really want a paper trail that can be verified. There is no reason not to have one. We can't leave our elections up to polls to make sure it was done honestly. If the president really did win this election honestly, so be it.

Now, regarding your exit polls... NH showed Kerry with a 9 percent lead in NH. We swung to Kerry, but only by 1%. I don't think we have any electronic voting machines up here, but if we did, we have a law on the books that require them to produce a receipt. I would be more concerned with Florida, where Kerry had a 5% lead Nov 2. Kerry getting the Florida vote would sway the election, but nobody is focusing on it. They have electronic voting. I'm also curious as to why undecideds voted Bush... Mr. Zoogby was on The Daily Show a few weeks ago and said history shows that people who are undecided go to the challenger over the incumbent. That didn't happen this time.

Also, take a look at this spreadsheet I made. 5 of the states where Exit Polls showed Kerry would win, Bush won. Kerry didn't win any projected Bush wins. Bush also did better in every state than the polls said he would. Anyways, I recommend you take a look.

Partisan politics aside, it was nice to see such high turnout around here. Some towns had as much as 90% participation.

Then they attacked Stewart personally, saying he wasn't asking hard enough questions, and he called Carlson a dick (which he later clarified, "all 4 of them are dicks").

Stewart gave them plenty of time to come clean. They decided they would rather be hacks and not do real reporting than be fair to the American people. Stewart even had CNN's Wolf Blitzer on his show a few months ago and asked why the media failed regarding Iraq. He asked if they were stumped by "Group Think" or Retardation. According to this, it would be in America's best interest if David Cobb were president. We are being shafted, because I can't honestly say I've heard his name once on TV. I was also intersted to find that he got a 68% on my matchup, ranking in at #2 behind Badnarik (who got 69%). Nobody passed the 70% mark. After reading Cobb's positions, I want to vote for this guy, but I live in NH and its going to be a damned close battle. Kerry got a 46%, which I guess is close enough. If this was not a vote for my country's future, I'd vote Green. Unfortunatly, I have to vote for the viable candidate, Kerry. In 2008 I'll vote my heart.

This page was also interesting. 63% of Americans feel we must have a balanced budget, 80% support universal health care, 58% agree with the ACLU, and 54% agree with the League of Conservation Voters. I rarely *ever* hear CNN/FOX/ABC/NBC talk about these issues, yet they are of high importance to most Americans. That goes to show you just how poor quality broadcast journalism has become in this country.

Kerry: I supported the Child Online Protection Act in 1998 which would have made it illegal for commercial Web sites to make available sexually explicit content that is harmful to minors unless they restrict access to adults by using a credit-card or adult-access code. The courts have blocked enforcement of this statute. They have argued that there may be other ways, such as Internet filtering software, to protect minors from inappropriate material while ensuring that legitimate speech is not chilled or punished. Whatever the courts eventually decide, our nation must act to make the Internet safer for children by protecting them from harmful material in a manner that is consistent with the First Amendment.

I think this answer is a good one, and I like that Kerry referenced the first ammendement in the last line. I get the impression that Kerry is saying, "Yes, I passed the bill because I wanted to protect your children, but the courts said it was unconstitutional, and I'm ok with that. However, I promise to find another method which the courts can agree with." I'm glad he's at least thinking about the first ammendment, which Bush has shown a total disregaurd for.

Wow. You pretty much summed up my view on leaders & politics in the last sentence right there. Throughout high school, I was frequently known as the kid who knew everything. I feel that I did a good job supporting my point of view and questioning popular opinion when I felt it was wrong (ie: the war in Iraq, or more broadly, everything Bush has done). I have considered getting into politics, but I'm not sure I want to be a leader (in the traditional sense). Yes, I can do a great job at pursuading opinion to support my side, but I hate when people listen without questioning me why. I like arguing and I like being proven wrong - I really do. No matter what the topic of discussion is, you will always learn another side of the story that applies to something else in life. I'd much rather teach people to lead themselves than follow me without reason, but I've found that time and time again people would rather follow somebody than think for themselves. Even when I can prove somebody wrong and they run out of arguments, they'll say "whatever" and go back to support their original idea without a good reason. It's very sad, but I think thats what it has come down to. OTOH, somebody once told me that the most important target during a debate is not your opponent, but the audience.
