. but in both cases, it is collapsing for YOU, the observer. Every other observer has to make them collapse for themselves by either observing something the cat/rock, or observing something that has already collapsed those wave-functions for itself.
So a tree falling in the forest only makes a sound for those who hear it. This really seems to fall more into the realm of philosophy than science.
It's really quite simple. Think of video games: the computer only renders the portion of the game that the player can observe (plus some nearby stuff for buffering, etc.). The Matr^H^H^H^HUniverse must act the same way to save on processing power.
When the two choices for controlling the news are the government and the free market, I'm gonna have to say that the free market is the lesser evil by far.
Rape is just one form of violent assault. There is no reason it should fuck up a woman's life any more than if someone, say, broke her arm. Both are serious crimes and should be punished, but the society shouldn't stigmatize the victims and encourage them to feel victimized for the whole life in either case.
And if a big burly guy rapes you, it won't fuck up your life any more than if he, say, breaks your arm, right?
I think the point was more along the lines of re-enforcing the -innocent until proven guilty concept- rather than -does the punishment fit the crime.
To play the devil's advocate, I don't think the kid was ever convicted. There are tons of "innocent until proven guilty" felony suspects currently in prison awaiting trial. Or are you angry that he wasn't offered the chance to pay a $20,000 bale?
That being said, I hope the family gets a big fat settlement out of this mess.
I have the sneaky suspicion that eventually there'll be a theory, supported by all existing evidence, which shows that Dark Matter does not in fact exist.
This reminds me of a shooting at a rock and roll venue in my hometown a few years ago and reading on one of the forums about a guy who allegedly was there and remarked that if you could conceal and carry (this is Ohio) in a liquor establishment, then the shooter would of been lucky to kill only one person because this person (the poster on the forum), could of drawn his weapon and taken out the madman.
Imagine a bar-room brawl. Not imagine each of the brawlers is carrying a gun. Get the picture?
Heh, parent post reminds me of that early Simpsons episode where the shrink gave each of them buttons to shock any other member of the family. Or the chapter of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac where Johnny goes to heaven where every person has the power to blow up the other people's heads. Didn't turn out too well.
The real question here is how a 911 call about shots fired gets to police at 7:15am and the same gunman (apparently) is allowed to come in and shoot up another building on the same campus TWO HOURS LATER with no police presence.
"Asked why the campus, which has more than 26,000 students, was not shut down after the first shooting, Flinchum responded that police received information that "it was an isolated event to that building and the decision was made not to cancel classes at that time.""
But with low efficiency we'll have need many times the sun light to generate the same amount of electricity! The sun would get used up in no time at this rate!
Democrat, Republican, or Independent?
Works fine in 1.5.0.11 on XP

That's funny, I thought Jesus sacrificed Himself to Himself to allow Himself to change a rule that He made Himself?
To be honest, if you have such a bleak point of view that you think happy news doesn't matter? Why bother living?
Schadenfreude?
Jumping the gun a bit? I don't see a single flamebait mod on GP so far.

Most disturbingly, you've got to wonder why his release (probably at the end of the year) is conditional on him not talking to media for a year...
If I were him, I'd hire a bodyguard and a food taster for the duration of that year....
Yay, so I can go kidnap people and imprison them in my basement as long as they're not U.S. citizens? Good to know!
I, for one, don't want to see how that porn actress looked 25 years ago or how she'll look in 50.

I personally think of it as quality over quantity.
When in doubt, tell the callers to move the trash can.

Explained in the CNN article
"Asked why the campus, which has more than 26,000 students, was not shut down after the first shooting, Flinchum responded that police received information that "it was an isolated event to that building and the decision was made not to cancel classes at that time.""
Why just videos/songs? Couldn't it send notices to ISPs to take down entire websites?
It's coming right for us!
There are four types of lies on the internet: lies, damned lies, statistics, and boobies.
I love that one!

And sorry they all dont have somewhere to be at 5-10 mph over the speed limit.
Virtually everyone drives 5-10 mph over the speed limit in the U.S. You try going 35 in a 35mph zone and see where that gets you.
