If you plan on going for a Masters or PHD then yes go back and get better grades, it will increase your chance of acceptance. If not it probably won't matter.
Email in its basic form is not, nor has never been, private. There have never been any promises that email was private. I remember from the first time I used email that it was always likened to mailing stuff on a postcard, not in a sealed envelope.
It's also not like Google is trying to hide the fact that they are scanning your emails. It is right out in the open in the terms of agreement. If you don't agree, don't sign up...
The difference is that I can choose to watch the infomercial. Sure I can choose not to read the spam, but I still have to spend time (time=$) filtering/deleting it.

I had one credit card that they would always be slow processing the payment check. Even if I sent it back to them the day I received the bill, the next month I would be charged a 'Late Payment Fee'. And then since they considered me late they doubled the APR % I was paying! I have long since cancelled that card, but I'm sure other companies are waiting to take advantage.
Always read your bills. I had one phone company completley change my billing plan (more expensive of course). When I called to ask about the extra charges I was told that I was sent notification last billing period. It turns out to have been on the fine print on the back of the bill!
