  1. Re:Mental discipline on Best Way To Beat A Caffeine Addiction? · · Score: 1
    - *Not* drinking caffeine (a painkiller) means that now I feel the migraines I've apparently been getting for a few years (according to my doctor). They're pretty infrequent, though, so I just keep a bottle of aspirin around.
I read that aspirin can make migrane headaches worse over the long term. You might want to see a doctor to see if you have ordinary headaches or if you really have migranes.
  2. Beating A Caffiene Addiction on Best Way To Beat A Caffeine Addiction? · · Score: 1

As you wrote there is a plethora of good advice for beating addiction out there already.

    It does apply to caffeine.

Caffenine is a bona fide drug that causes real physical dependence.

Since this is a tech forum I will remind you that Google is your friend.

Look for books, articles, programs for caffeine addiction.

Your family doctor or local hospital might be able to help you with some good advice.

Be sure to take away the reasons why you might want caffeine ( energy, a buzz ):

    - get adequate and regular sleep at the same times every day

    - get regular exercise

    - eat a nutritious AND tasty diet

    - drink 2 quarts of water a day...just water

    - use time management so you don't feel pressured to need caffeine to stay up late.

    Good Luck

  4. Putting the officers on trial versus the crew on Getting Over the Stigma of a Previous Job? · · Score: 1

From what little I know of maritime history, if a ship sank the officers were put on trial while the crew got assigned to new ships.

    Makes sense.

Ships don't sink because crew memembers with well defined skills screw up.

Ships sink because of bad decision making by the officers and/or poor leadership overall.

Interestingly, several years ago during the dot.com crash I kept in touch with folks from my dot.com.

The people from middle management who destroyed the company to the tunes of tens of millions of dollars ( and the upper management who let them do this ) all got nice jobs from the old boy network.

I concluded that the only management next to worst then the dot.com leadership was the leadership that hired these failed managers.

I know, welcome to planet Earth.

Is to get rid of your television. No purchase or installation required :). For years I thought television, even cable was crap, but I let myself be held hostage by "that one good show". Back in June I moved and I decided to leave the TV behind on purpose. To be honest, every once in a blue moon I miss the tube. However, in the balance I read more, get more sleep, I get more exercise, see my friends more, study more, go out....in short, I have more of a life. I still watch DVDs of some good movies....and even "that one good show" on PC. Steve

  6. Doubts on Sun Negotiating With Wal-Mart Over Java Desktop · · Score: 1
I got my break into programming doing Java. I did the applet thing, the awt thing, the swing thing.

Java is a great server side tool......surprise SUN is a server company.

I have yet to see SUN put out an application, written in Java or anything else that was user friendly and not god awful slow.

Im a Java fan, I would like to see the Java desktop, but I will not install one on my PC.

Between Java, various new Free Software Projects, and some microsoft stuff at work I am sick to death of S-L-O-W software that people keep reminding me is really wonderful.

When will speed and performance come back in fashion?

That would make Debian both one of the most solid distros and one of the most easiest distros at the same time.

    Just curious.

I never would have gotten into Debian if not for the hard disk install of Knoppix

Fans of an old series want to see ___THE *old* series__, but with new material. Everyone knows this. To not give fans this is a form of bait and switch. Producers do this because they are not talented enough to make something new and good. Instead they hope to hack someone else's work and capitialize off the name drawing power of the original series. P.S. The human looking cylons are probably about saving a few pennies on special effects.....not creative reasons...
