I bought an OHP and a flat panel display off ebay. An Nview Spectra (640 x 480) an and Elmo portable OHP. Granted, the Nview was/is a slightly older technology, but it was made for this application. The main problem with these panels and I believe with the LCD monitors is their contrast ratio. The Spectra was 150:1, I think the LCD panels may be twice that, but blacks are still gray. Total cost: $200
My Benq 6200 is XGA DLP with 2000:1 contrast ratio. I bought this DLP without ever seeing ANY DLP in operation ($1150 after rebate). My wife was skeptical based on my DIY setup. Totally converted upon viewing the first DVD on it. My advice for those who want a CINEMA experience is to get a DLP.
Enjoy.
For about a thousand bucks you can get into a nice DLP front projection unit. I bought a Benq PB 6200 a couple months ago. I laugh everytime I think about what I would have had to spend to get a similar size/quality plasma/lcd (Benq PB6200 projects from 36" to 330" - I run it between 55-70" mostly). IMHO Front Projection DLP's are going to dominate the market once the word gets out. Word.
Enjoy.
Excellent post. I own a Benq 6200 DLP ($1100 after rebate). The DLP projectors are going to take over the HD market IMHO. If you haven't seen one yet, you're missing out. So much more bang for the buck than anything else out there it isn't even a competition.
Enjoy.
Also, why would you want to give the government easier access to your internet data?
----------------
All other points of your argument aside, what would make you think that 'the government' doesn't already have access to your 'internet data'? You think they're too cheap to spring for a dsl connection or don't know how to Google?
Seriously, there are too many in the Slashdot crowd who are deceiving themselves as to their anonymity on the internet. Best to limit the power of government to abuse you than delude yourself that you're somehow more anonymous on the internet if the government doesn't provide the service. It's not paranoia if they're really out to get you.
Enjoy.
If you're going to do a case mod, this is the way to do it. I can't help but wonder if we wouldn't already be on Mars if the government hired people with this kind of imagination to run the projects.
Enjoy.
I was wondering the same thing, but I figure they will use this as a download (similar to satellite service that downloads by satellite but still requires a dialup for upload) only type service. Otherwise, every user has to be a broadcaster as well. That would surely lead to all kinds of abuse and interference. It wouldn't be long before some electronics nut (slashdotter?) figured out a way to 'boost' his signal by adding a 200 watt amplifier to his system. Back when CD radio was really hot (1972-1976) folks were running amps (footwarmers was the term that comes to mind) on their equipment. Their signals would interfere with TV sets all over town every time they keyed their microphones. We used to take immense please in tracking down the source of the signal and doing a little constuctive antenna snipping.
Enjoy.
Perhaps if Bush had decided to go on the offensive against the people who actually attacked us (15/19 Saudi), instead of flying Osama's inlaws out of the country on a private plane (without adequate debriefing/interviews)and going on a Jihad against powerless Iraq, we'd be less apt to suspect him of the type of Republican tomfoolery Nixon employed.

I don't own a camcorder in any format.
