... a loopback file methinks. At least TFA states that you have to create an empty file of the desired size in your Windows partition first. It also states that there's a tool that does this for you, so you don't have to boot Windows first.
Damit lassen sich im laufenden System sämtliche Dateien verändern; selbst das Nachinstallieren von Software in das CD-Linux ist problemlos möglich.
"With this all data on the running system can be changed; even post-install of software on the linux CD is possible without problems"
(no, i don't know exactly what the term "post-install" ("Nachinstallieren") means but i guess it's just any install of software that is not already on the disk)
In danish news it is reported that the Govt. does take that threat seriosly and are considering how to actively support software patents....yet another thing that this govt. just don't get (recently re-elected, they do have a track record of four years with a lot of really stupid/nasty stuff going on, yet it seems just above 50% of the population preferred that they should stay). Anybody know a nice country one can move to ?
That's really not surprising given their field of work.
Also, you know that the military produce products that are (potentially) devastating in nature, regardless of scope. It's just what they do.
So, what troubles me a whole lot about this is the possibilities for advertising, regardless of how distant they might seem at present. Consider a coke logo that can be seen across states. No, make that the windows logo...
It seems to me that there is more than one elephant in the room.
First, you cannot assume that all pages returned by Google have an equal opportunity to be served. This is due to the facts that: a) For any query, Google will only show the top 1,000 most relevant pages b) Most relevant is determined by a numer of factors, one of them being a probability distributon that assigns more weight (PR) to some pages than others
Second, the extend that Google itself employs some sort(s) of clustering techniques (LSI has been debated) will skew the results. You might think you get really nice success rates, but that will be because Google itself has really nice success rates.
Third, your a priori selection of terms should take into account that pages written in seperate languages or for separate target groups (eg. kids vs. academiae) will use quite different wording.
Forth, you cannot assume that the number you base your whole key metric on is correct. The result count on Google is (for larger volumes) itself an estimated number, and the accuracy (or not) of that estimate will bias your calculations.
Fifth, if you try to extract meaning based on results from a system that itself tries to extract meaning, your own results will be highly colored by the assumptions of the underlying system. You will not be analysing the basic data, in stead you will be analyzing Google. As above, you might think you get really nice success rates, but that will be because Google itself has really nice success rates.
>> we keep playing the buzzword bingo with our new systems, e.g. "Extreme programming"
Although i advocated Extreme Programming higher in the thread, i support this statement. The thing is - it's not words; it's not something you're supposed to play bingo with or talk about - you're supposed to do something.
The prime success factor of any project is always Getting Things Done.

What scares me is when it becomes normal for people to include "national security" in their vocabulary, especially people in government. To think that this is happening so few years after the wall finally broke down (you know, that concrete thingy that used to be somewhere in Europe)... Sad thing is, these people probably don't even know it themselves, and would deny it if the thought ever occured to them. What, Pres. Bush and advisors doing it the communist way?! How's that for a statement?
What we really need is so basic: Freedom of speech, human rights, and free movement of people and goods. Not the opposite - we know what happens when you restrict any of that; history has taught us that lesson over and over again.
And there's more to it than that. Some languages have more word states than others, eg. depending on past/present tense(s), singular/plural, and/or who you're talking to. Not to mention synonyms and words with more than one meaning depending on context.
And then there are words that shouldn't be translated - eg. in Danish, the common word for "Download" is "Download" even though it's English. You can translate "Download" of course ("Hent ned"), but nobody in Denmark use those Danish terms, so a translation wouldn't be right for that word as nobody would understand what you were talking about if you used the Danish words.
... what keeps some machines running Win+IE is actually that some internet-banking only works on IE... i mean..... of all the things that just shouldn't be IE-specific... banking!...sheesh...
... SpywareBlaster as well, of course. And a small personal firewall like say, ZoneAlarm or something...an then an anti-virus package of some kind if they havne't got that already. Oh, and make sure to run those windows-updates too.
So, for running one program (IE) you need to install at least four others and run them every once in a while.
i solved the issue without recompiling. It simply wasn't necessary. I got just a little too provoked by some of the "me-knows-all" posters here, so i tried "everything and then some" just one more time, and somehow i got it right this time.

No ads on that page. Not even a random one. Sorry about that - now, how do i get to step three?

Error: "Dateien" means "files" not "data". I apologize even though it doesn't change the conclusion.

Just disable stylesheets and JS and you'll get a nice clean page.
Although with some graphics on top, but you can disable them too.

uhm... fruityloops isn't exactly a drum machine by any measure - the "loops" part of the name does not refer to drums.
Yeah, fruityloops is a nice app. I've tried cubase and cooledit pro, but fruityloops, sofar, is the one that appeals most to me.
It's just great to have a tool thats so intuitively understandable, yet so filled with features.
Literally, you're up and running in one minute flat, doing your stuff, and there's absolutely no need to rtfm.
