He can't switch off Fox news. Television-delivered media is to Americans what an umbilical cord is to a fetus, except that the fetus will one day be born and start learning. Unless of course it's in the womb of an American, in which case it will be born and start watching television.
I was really referring to the whole gamut of cartoons for children, and got stuck on "Disney" from the OP. Well done completely missing my points. First, we stopped reading articles. Then we stopped reading summaries. Now we reply without reading comments. Evolution/. style (as distinctly opposed to intelligent design)!
I see the appreciation of depreciation of gold and all commodities for that matter to not be a change in the values of those commodities, after all the value of a pound of butter does not change to the person making or eating it, but changes in the value of currency. In my perfect world, there would be a fixed supply of currency pegged to the population. Currency should serve ONLY as a means to transport good effectively in society, there is absolutely no reason that the quantity of currency in circulation should be pegged to anything but the population.
+1 on all that. I also have a problem with Disney implanting ideology into their content. Looney Tunes, Merry Melodies etc all are highly politically charged when you look past the childish representation of the characters. For example, it is reasonably clear that Disney was (and probably still is) a racist organization. I saw a cartoon, now banned, that depicted blacks on a cotton farm as thick brutes. Look also at their cartoons that depict characters intended to represent countries, such as Pepe Le Pew. Their behavior and mannerisms are carefully constructed to impart on a young, pliable mind a set of preconceptions that will guide the way that mind later in life perceives the nature of that culture.
This goes generally for all TV these days. Characters and representations of people and places are all engineered to ensure that the perceptions imparted lead to reactions that serve the purposes of the masters of the media.
If your post is a reflection on the general level of understanding of society and the world in the US, the only thing the Taliban and China need to do to bring about the fall of America is wait.
If they can make GMs cars better then GM can, then that's GM's fault. If a Chinese car is a blatant ripoff of a GM car but works as well for half the price, do you really think I'm going to buy it from GM out of some misplaced sense of patriotic duty? If GM wants my money, they should make better cars. Americans don't know what a good car is. Drive a German car and you'll see what the rest of the world means when we say "American cars suck".
He's running a firewall you dolt. Since when do you need support for a new graphics chipset on a firewall? If it supports your eth cards than that's it. You don't need anything else. At all.
Voicing opposing viewpoints != Deliberately lying in a way that causes a small number of people to profit from harm caused to many. Science is one thing, but dressing up marketing FUD as science and saying it deserves it's day in a scientific forum achieves nothing but tying up valuable brains. I don't give a rat's ass what you say about freedom of speech, I will fight until the day that I die the rights of tobacco companies to advocate or advertise to my children.
Yes, it is arrogant to tell another human being how to live. But if that other human being thinks he can live his life while peeing all over me, then he can call me arrogant until he's blue in the face. Black and blue, that is, from all the pummeling he'd be getting from my lead pipe.
The concept of sovereignty is so misused that I don't think there are any statesmen in the modern geopolitical world that have any idea what it means any more. The concept has been hijacked and bastardized so badly that most politicians these days seem to think it simply means "national security" and have forgotten that the initial conception many centuries ago had more to do with the duties of the sovereign rather than his or her rights over the state's people and resources.
Nationalistic arrogance comes from total ignorance that now != forever. Which pretty much explains why Americans can think the way you do, not only are you unaware that there is a world *outside* America, you're also unaware that tomorrow may actually not be exactly like today. What a revolutionary concept!
Are you really suggesting that you thought that I was really suggesting that the Slashdot poll widget could really be used for a presidential election?
What the BLOODY HELL is so hard about having a machine that does the following: $candidate++;
I mean really now, I could have written an accurate bulletproof voting system in HIGH SCHOOL. Hell, Slashdot has a voting system in it. When was the last time you heard about that breaking? Aside from people double voting due to dynamic IPs etc, it'd work a treat if the voters were supervised. I can see the new eVoting system based on the Slashdot code:
No, it's being on/. the concept of "wife" is not understood. The only time/. has contact with wives is mail order brides, and believe you me, you do not want to give them your banking details*.
Wow, I had never thought of it that way. I agree with you on all points, however I am a little more cynical. Yes, nobody was paid to develop some overpriced embedded OS. I'll bet though, that the money that *would* have gone to them, went to them anyway, charged for some other exists-on-paper-only expense. As long as there is war, there will be those who profit from it. Governments borrow from the private sector to fund military spending, and those who finance wars in this way (the big international financiers and banking houses) get to have governments who essentially mortgage the price of war, with the loan secured against the country's taxes.

I've always loved that theme from the movie. Kinda puts the whole "terrorists don't fight fair" thing into perspective.
What? You mean that doesn't happen in free markets? I'm sure Bush and his Dick will be surprised to hear that!

Then use a usb thumb drive, still saving the CDR.

Yea, both of them. And in this case, I'm not using that as a sarcastic reference to a low number, there really have only been two.

A smart post. But he said he's American. But it's actually insightful. But he's an American. Gargh! My mind can't handle the upheaval of reality!

Oh, to answer your question, yes, I am.
They will when it's their turn to be accused of having WMDs.

You know what you get when "experts" omit what they feel is crap? The American Media!
Are you really suggesting that you thought that I was really suggesting that the Slashdot poll widget could really be used for a presidential election?
Yea I'm at a loss to explain it as well.

In Soviet Russia, voting machines punch you!
This is not a troll, just a deviation from the mainstream /. opinions. Mods, stop being stupid.

It's a system so evil it makes me want to puke.
