Tiles was a project i beleive started by our dear friend Slothy of iCE who i've worked with on more than one occasion and have known since i was 16 as an iCE member.
iCE has always been an excellent organization of artists that are extremely talented and have remained friends for a long time now. Tiles is proof of the many great ideas Jon (slothy) has had over the years. Looking at the work in the tiles is pretty interesting and its a lot of fun.
Nice to see it on slashdot. I know Jon and other iCE members such as myself are frequent readers of slashdot.
We're never going to get anywhere with companies like comcrap and other cable isp's holding back bandwidth from its users.
Optonline offers 1MB/s down and like 150kb up. Unfortunately if you upload for longer than 30minutes they cap you to 15kb up.
I'm holding out for Verizon's fiber service. These companies need to wake up and just deliver the fiber! Cable, dsl etc.. waste of investment. They should just go straight for the raw speed and advance us as a society once and for all.
unfortunately the creators of your favorite games are NOT making money. The suits that have hijacked the gaming industry are making the money.
The artists and coders are not making the money. ALL of the game profits go to the marketing departments, the research departments (not tech research, but research in trends.. whats hot whats not)
The real bulk of the money goes to the companies to themselves.
The game industry has no celebrities. All of the money goes to the suits, while the artists get paid 50k a year. Coders generally paid more but still underpaid. The work and ideas... worthless. All of teh profits go to the corperations that have moved in like hawks to eat up the game industry.
Rich like to stay rich and have no intentions of making any videogame artist/coder an upper class citizen.

I read this article in mm, and i beleive CGW had an article on it as well.. from what i understand its very similar to Alias's Sketchbook pro. It is a little different in that in Alias Sketchbook Pro you first hit the capture screen button on your windows task bar and then it opens up in alias sketch pro... where you can easy draw on the screen cap and save etc.
Alias Sketchbook pro is an EXCELLENT tool. I would like to see it have the Pixar workflow added to it though, which is to simply allow you to draw anywhere on the screen and then save it as a capture, rather than hitting the capture screen and then drawing in alias sketch.
Both workflows are good actually... let the user decide how it fits with their brain.
Either way... Alias Sketchbook Pro is very similar to Pixars tool and i definatly recommend it.

In the computer fx workforce... the artists are expected to stay all night, sleep at the dam studio if needed.. just to accomplish a shot.

Its important for all of us, including myself (a videogame/film 3d animator) to hold EA and the other companies to their word. OR else this will just be forgotten and EA will have glossed over the bad PR and havent done a thing to improve the issue.
It's not just the videogame and IT industry, its also the fillm industry. The computer artists doing the fx for films that gross 2 billion world wide, are over worked just like the videogame industry. The funny thing is that the traditional crews in the film industry have unions and they only work until a certain time, and they will drop everything and leave at that time. In the computer fx workforce... the artists are expected to stay all night, sleep at the dam studio if needed.. just to accomplish a shot.
Things are better for you... But not others and you clearly stated that you dont care about the others...
