I really am touched. It is so important to see how Ohio could have hired 25,000 new policemen, because we need more policemen. We need to kick our public's ass. No, we dare not hire 25,000 new teachers... or improve the school system or raise teachers salaries... but instead... hire more gun legal state cowboys.
No one really gives a shit about this country anymore. Its all about money. We're fucked because we eat ourselves alive. If piracy stopped tomorrow, i'm sure Adobe would NOT be charging $10 for photoshop. No, I'm pretty sure the price would go up on the product because of supply and demand. If it were impossible to pirate photoshop, many would find free alternatives. Adobe would be forced to increase prices due to the fact that photoshop users, pirates and legal users.... have now moved to other applications which are cheaper or free. Adobe doesnt really want a world where photoshop isnt the standard.... even at the cost of piracy.
But dont worry, the little man will lose... he/she always does.
If i'm not mistaken... this is the same as closing highways because criminals may use them for bank robbery escape routes.
this isnt about ending child porn, this has more to do with ending distribution routes used by people to destribute content themselves.
In other words, the major corporations behind these ISPs have an interest in dictating usage so that they are the single delivery system for content to their end users.
Child Porn is an excuse used to distract us from the real situation.
The newsgroups is not full of child porn... child porn is perhaps.005% of the porn on newsgroups.
The truth is... all of the good porn, tv shows, movies, music, etc etc are on the newsgroups... that means MASSIVE bandwidth usage.
The bandwidth used by child porn sick fucks, doesnt even compare to the bandwidth being used by jackers looking at "of legal age" material, or the file traders who are sending massive amounts of data through the newsgroups.
Kiddie porn is a fucking political power move. Dont fall victom of it. Its not a widespread issue.
yeah my biggest fear is the cable cos will over compress everything resulting in very poor television. I mean if they cant handle the few HD channels they have now, how will they handle the full load?!!?
Its something to be worried about because these corporations are against upgrading bandwidth. They'll do anything to avoid doing so. It's bound to bring us very poor signals in the future at ridiculously higher prices.
I'm happy with my 720P TV. I have a 1080P as well. I can live with my 720P TV but i would rather it be 1080P. So i agree with you. What pisses me off most is, HD TV is broadcast in 720P, but heavily compressed. I have FIOS, and FIOS TV and there is a lot of grain and compression artifacts in fast motion on HD TV broadcasts such as sports etc.
You can easily see the compressed signal. I'm not sure its from FIOS to save bandwidth (probably is), or if its from the source... (probably is).
Whatever the case is... I think we're all being ripped off with this HD TV thing. Cablevision and Direct TV exhibit the same problems btw. We're not really getting HD, when your 720P signal is compressed to shit. Its actually losing resolution and picture quality.
I wish more people were aware of the compression schemes and artifacts so they knew what they were getting... but right now... HDTV is a bit of a lie. If they're going to compress it all to shit, i'd rather not see it in fine detail on a 1080P tv.
Meebo is a great web app. It really is, i've been using it on the iphone because it was truly a good web app. The difference is simply speed. The AIM app is a native app so it doesnt require loading safari, and that is a huge bonus. AIM doesnt run in the background, and neither does Meebo, but from what i understand, the AIM app works with the AIM server to save unreceived messages. So from what i understand with the AIM app, is that you will not miss IM's when exiting the app. You will get them when you start the app back up. I havent tested this, its what i have read though.
I did a test right away with AIM vs Meebo, cause i like Meebo, i really do... but the simple speed of loading up AIM's native app vs going into safari and loading meebo, is a little bit more streemlined and faster. I know you can make a meebo icon on your iphone desktop, but clicking it essentially is the same as going into safari, and loading the bookmark. Its a slower process.
Meebo will be around for a while... i dont expect it to go anywhere.
Frankly i'm surprised that google didnt provide a native google talk app for the iphone, but i did notice that google talk on the web now works on the iphone and doesnt require flash anymore.
There is nothing more enjoyable than watching cbs tv shows on youtube. I mean i get to sit back in my comfortable couch and squint at my monitor, as i watch a tiny window displaying heavily compressed, often out of sync audio, and let me tell you, there is nothing more enjoyable then having to load up "part2" "part3" "part4" "part5" of the single episode. I find that i completely enjoy watching my CBS tv shows this way, at 5 minute clips at a time... It entertaining and relaxing.... That is until i need to get up to refresh my browser. You see, my keyboard is over at the desk along with the input device known as a mouse. Oh i could buy a wireless keyboard, after all i already have a wireless mouse.... but i enjoy the hell that i call the youtube viewing experience because i know, i can say "FUCK YOU VIACOM"... as i watch the latest stupid fucking reality tv show clip. It makes me feel good to know that i'm sticking it to the man, and ripping him off.
What would else would they expect me to do? Sit back on my comfortable couch and simply DVR their shitty reality show and watch it on my giant LCD TV as i fast forward through commercials for "Bullshit at eleven" news? Ah you gotta love the remote control. Its not nearly as painful as getting up to use the keyboard and mouse (which is on my desk if you remember). Oh i'm quite sure i will be youtubing today... You can bet your ass on it. Ted Kopple has an incredible 4 part series report on China and our economic relations, and its impact on the economy... and i cant wait to watch it in 5 minute segments on youtube. There must be at least thousands of "parts" that i'll have to watch just to see Ted's year long report. Thats right... Mr Kopple did a year long report on China. None of that 5 minute sound bite bullshit here... Ted actually did some reporting... yes it is possible, even if no one else does it (on TV...) I mean Youtube.
Gotta correct this... The feature set didnt just "get a lot more competitive with the app store." The potential is there for more competition and features.
The app store is full of a lot of terrible applications. Many of them thrown together crudely, like the NYC subway maps apps. The most popular one uses liscensed maps from the NY MTA (Metro Transit Authority). However the maps are just low resolution jpgs that you cant even zoom into and read clearly.
Its a rather poor application and its considered the best of the subway map applications. Thats not really saying much... or is it?
There are a few nice applications, and frankly they are the ones from AOL. The AOL Radio app is incredible, and i hope they keep adding more features and service to it. The AIM app is a welcomed addition considering Apple appears to have no fucking interest at all at bringing ichat over to the iphone. Thats very disappointing. The phone has a texting ui, but cant receive or send photo/video text messages (MMS)
Some other good apps are the facebook and myspace apps. They're actually nicer than their regular website services considering that especially the myspace app, doesnt download all of the shitty banners and crap people leave in comments. Who would have thought that Myspace is actually nice without all of the shitty "artwork" plastered all over it?
The games, what games? Apple's own texas hold'em app is average at best. It reminds me of a game from 1991. Its nice that there is multiplayer but the graphics are ridiculous. And coming from Apple... i would have expected a better ui for the game. Instead it looks like bargain bin software.
Super Monkey Ball is good... not great. It never really was a game worth owning.
Trisms, is a pretty cool game actually. Hard as hell but i think the developer did a nice job with it.
The nice things about the apps that are semi usable, is that when they use the net for data, they're very fast. They dont dl all of the nonsense that the safari browser does. Its nice to just get the dam text and a picture with a news story rather than entire website. I'm speaking about one of the new News apps on the iphone, which is lightning fast at displaying news articles... and has a photo for each story. And this is on an EDGE connection.
In general browsing with Safari on the iphone 1.0 while connected to EDGE is fucking painful. These web enabled apps though seem to do it rather nicely, streamlined and light on bandwidth, which of course means they're fast to load.
There is POTENTIAL with the new app store, and app capability... but i cant say that there is any killer app out there yet, other than AIM.
Act tough against Corporations and some one higher up says "look dick bag, you're only here cause i put you here, so dont get fucking cocky you little peice of shit... You will do nothing."
So now comcast gets a blow job from the FCC rather than a strict ruling from our government.
Lovely. Did you really expect anything to ever happen to comcast? You do realize that these companies get away with murder... and you dont.
You're just a libertarian associating OSS with your own political ideals to some how link libertarians with OSS.
The truth is... OSS is just that.. freedom. Its whatever the author intends it to be. It is not for any one beleif to assume what OSS is or isnt, other than will and right of the authors and contributors behind it.
Some may be libertarian, some may be communist. I'm sure there are Chinese OSS authors out there that are communist, and i'm sure there are some Chinese OSS authors out there that are pro democracy... and of course there are also US authors who may or may not be libertarian.
Attempting to link OSS with any single political movement is typical humanity at its worst... selfish and reassuring of ones ego.
His "preachiness" as you put it was in response. You can not have one without the other, and he was vocal about his beleifs and many others agreed with him. There is nothing wrong with his "preachiness"
Think of what you're saying, if no one preached, we would all say nothing.
I'm not seeing a problem with this. You don't have a right to "share" material that is copyrighted by someone other than you if they didn't give you consent. You may not like this, you can come up with all the (possibly valid) reasons things should not be that way. It's not for YOU to decide. Its our world to change my friend. Right now, the internet civilization of today is in fact using copyrighted material for their own use. Most people feel they have every right to use a copyrighted song on their youtube video. Many people are posting copyrighted tv news clips online. There are many uses of copyrighted material taking place that arent exactly the same as piracy.
We're moving into a new age, where we look at information differently, and it is exchanged, fast, and personally. If i say "did you see last nights show!?!?" and someone says "no! I missed it!"... What is exactly wrong with saying... "dont worry, i recorded it, i will send it too you"
Thats not very different from... "Hey, dont worry, i recorded it on my DVR... come over and watch"
The way we use material is going to change. Artists and content creators deserve to be paid for their work, but we also are running into this new information age where it is common, and convenient to often share copyrighted material for many non profit uses.
I think we will figure this out, as society learns just exactly what this internet thing is... and as we learn to use it for the betterment of mankind... We may just find that some of the old ways of thinking may need to change.
No artist should starve and have their work stolen.... but i think we need to see this entire net generation figure itself out a bit, and that includes ways for copyright holders to profit while we share information.
I really dont see a whole lot wrong with little sis, filming a youtube video with her friends singing and dancing to a coldplay song... Its copyrighted, but... we need to put things in some kind of context.
Are they supposed to be shocked? They wrote this, they know it is in there... They know why it is in there.... They dont care what you have to say about it. It is what they want, and you will take it.
Let the police do the policing. Corporation should not to police us. Next they will be censoring my jokes about kid fuckers, abortion, jesus, and my phone sex sessions with my girl.
Where does it end?
Stay out of policing us, because in the case of a corporation policing us, they assume everyone is guilty rather than innocent.
i dont need to get a grip! I work in 3d animation and i do photography. I'm a professional. I deal with very large files and lots of data.
Vista fucking crawls! I've been building pc's since 286 days. I know how to config a pc inside and out, but vista is just evil. I think it's stupid caching scheme is thinking i want to have some 2gig file in ram just in case i want to open it someday.
I cant imagine where the fucking ram goes. Theres not enough processes to eat up 8 gigs of ram. Its caching all of the ram (which i know is be design)... but then even running a simple fucking IM app like Paltalk, will cause vista to run out of free ram, then vista has to dump some of the cache, then this is when the crawl comes.
It happens with so many apps. The stupid os runs out of memory since it gobbles it up into the cache, and when an app needs the ram, it eats up the 2 megs that vista leaves free... and then i have 0 free.. and vista goes to fucking shit. It just slows to a crawl.
Vista is such a peice of fucking shit. With 8 gigs of ram, and 1 apps running, the fucking thing studders, lags and pukes shit all over my pc's performance.
I'm furious. How many fucking times does vista have to halt to a crawl when only running a single app that is taking 100 MB of ram at most.... The background processes arent eating up 8 GB of ram!!!
Oh vista has to fucking "intelligently cache" my data... which in real world translates to.... SLOW VISTA TO A FUCKING CRAWL when running a single application that is using 100 MB's of 8 fucking GIGS
FUCK!$%@!%$!%!%^!
This has never been fixed. It has never been fucking addressed by MS. There is NO FUCKING information regarding it online.
Fair enough, but i think this step to protect IP is fairly drastic. We rarely in this country turn back laws. No one ever wants to the be the politician that says "lets bring back all of the strip clubs to the neighborhood".
I'm not one to think that we'll ever have our answers without having tried and failed... but i'm cautious when it comes to this issue in light that i would rather put our tax dollars towards more personally important issues. The IP problem may be real but it is complex. Fair use is a serious discussion that needs to take place again in this "linked" world. We as a society have changed a bit in terms of how we view and share media and how we perceive fair use. Youtube is a great example. You cant argue against the idea that youtube has benefited our culture in some way. People will take copyrighted news clips and put them up to be informative. They will publically reply to political ads in video form, showing the original political ad. People do have some sort of new idea, or expectation as to what they can and cant do with media, and it tends to lean towards the CAN do, rather than cant. And it frankly makes sense. I'm affraid that we'll criminalize things way to far, and there are just more important issues than this.
I'm not saying this isnt a huge issue... it is and will be, but it will mean nothing if we dont have many other societal problems solved first.
In a sense i'm more inclined to let IP fair use to publically evolve, through applications, social behaviors etc before we really decide what is criminally punishable and what might actually be good for our society.
The problem is there are 5000 more important issues to our country, before that one. And yes i would rather devote more people to handle those 5000 issues, rather than this 1.
I find that America will be better off when we soon realize that we as adults are children afraid of our own sexual fantasies and the most important action we must take is to simply act as if the naughty naughty doesnt happen. That way we can legally penalize anyone that dares enjoy sex in ways we ourselves wished we could. This judge clearly has a sexual organ, and i move to have him removed from the bench and the legal justice system as we know it. What will the world think of us, when they find out this judge enjoys sex! WHAT i ask you?
Oh yeah... and dont forget... We do not wipe our own asses... that is dirty.
I really am touched. It is so important to see how Ohio could have hired 25,000 new policemen, because we need more policemen. We need to kick our public's ass. To have service you will have to sign away all rights. Its that simple.
