First. Liberal? Come on. Lets grow up a bit here. I stand up for education, health care and ending an illegal war and you call me a liberal? WHAT IF ANY is liberal about that? Would you call Ron Paul a liberal? He agrees with me. Infact MOST of this country agrees with me. It is a fact. If you want to avoid the realities... so be it, but dont me so fucking dumb as to label me as "liberal" for you can not sum up anyone one persons political beliefs with a single "label". Anyone intelligent minded person would know that.
You called me a dope, but did you look into any of what you claim.
WE DO NOT have the best health care system in the world.
The War is not beyond my understanding. In fact it is my job to be informed as a voting citizen of America, the problem is our government does not inform us on why we are there. Instead we are lied to by our government. That is not not being "Beyond my understanding", but instead government doing whatever it wishes.
Perhaps you would feel perfectly comfortable if our government dropped 500 nukes on China without giving an honest explaination as to why. I would not my friend. No good comes out of that nonsense. Government unchecked, is NOT a representative democracy. I do not know what America you learned about in our history books, but you have failed America 101.
NAFTA aint the problem? You claim that it is the other countries preventing american goods into their market... well wouldnt that mean that NAFTA should be reviewed and perhaps, it is unfair that we opened our markets to them, when we get nothing in return? NAFTA is the problem because it gives us the leverage to say "no, sorry, you arent playing fair with us... and we're done with you until otherwise." Its simple... What dont you get?
Corporations make jobs... So does the mafia. blah blah blah. They are evil. Buisness left to its own will monopolies power, thats why we have monopoly laws correct? Now why do they monopolies power, if they're so best intentioned. Buisness is cutthroat, ever hear that old cliche? There is a reason for it. The truth is Buisness doesnt exist to mass vast amounts fo wealth at the cost of civilization. Buisneses exist to provide jobs (as you said yourself...) however just like unchecked power... buisneses will attempt to rule, dominate and they do all kinds of sleazy things. I suggest you take a look at the state of manufacturing and where it is being done, and why it is being done there. Hint, China, cheap, no workers rights.
Let me remind you, left to its own doing, America enslaved people for buisness. I mean what exactly havent you been paying attention to? Buisness takes advantages to gain power, success etc... even at the cost of human lives (reference slavery, illegal workers, outsourcing).
The roads... Pave your own? I do. I pay the tolls which in return is supposed to go to repairing the roads i use. However every year all of that toll TAX money goes to lots of other things, and the roads remained rather damaged in most areas. Especially here in NYC.
I'm obviously someone without a clue, free loading.... OBVIOUSLY (Rolls eyes). Nice troll.. I had to bite cause its fun.:)
Exactly. Ron Paul, while on many issues looks wonderful, he wants to dismantle the entire federal government which would cause serious problems.
If you think the free market is going to solve all of our problems, I think you need to look at the current trends in the corporate world and how they sell out the people and cut corners on quality wherever possible. The entire China manufacturing situation is a great example of the dangers associated with allowing the business world to run things
I'm so tired of our government. This is the dumbest thing ever.
Here's a message to the government....
FIRST.. before worrying about who's copying music and movies... LETS DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Fix the entire public school system 2. Fix the entire healthcare system 3. Get the fuck out of this war 4. Stop representing corporations before citizens 5. Take a serious look at the effects of NAFTA 6. Pave the fucking roads
Its funny how copying bullshit entertainment is more of a crime than the white collar corporate crime that takes place every fucking day at the expense of the American people.
It is no wonder that protecting music and films, is more important than healthcare, and education because we live in a bullshit fucking country where we crave celebrity. ALL WE DO IS SELL BULLSHIT. Entertainment and Celebrity is our last industry.
And dont even get me started on the software industry... they were BUILT from fucking trading warez.
You find it ironic that mentioned fight club? Why? Its a commentary on contemporary life. Surely you recognize that art often speaks on life itself. Come on man, if you want to pick apart what i said, be honest about it.
I wasnt speaking about what i "feel" is right. I'm speaking about humanity. Humanity is many things. It is not "what i feel", It is what we are. If you think some MRI is going sum up the effects of violence on the brain... then you're just fooling yourself. I, WE all know far more the effects of our own emotions on each of us far greater than any MRI will ever tell us. WE KNOW what sad is, what anger is... etc. We are familiar with those emotions and we know from our own experience and history itself, what humans do under many situations and there is no ideal situation to describe the specifically what violence does to you, me, or anyone else... because it is a myriad of effects that run the gamut.
As far as your question on context... REAL LIFE is context. Everything can be taken out of context, but real violence in front of you, performed on you... is all the context you need to differentiate FAKE violence from real violence.
Your thought about wondering if graphic quality matters in a game, in terms of the effect of violences on a human is a question tahts been around for a while... You almost could wonder, maybe if the graphics were life like, would we be more effected.... I say no. It is still a videogame, it is still fake, you are safe in your chair in your house... It is not real. You have context. Real life vs entertainment.
Why is it that we're always presented research that tries to prove that violent (and sexual) entertainment are some how causing this negative effect on our brains.
They always sight very vague evidence such as imaging to show that "look see... its a negative effect"
Its just an MRI. It doesn't show response, or thought. It doesn't prove that it is a negative response or a positive response.
So back to my original question... Why is it that these "news reports" always try say viewing violent material is a negative thing?
Certainly it can be... But we all already know this...
The problem is, we keep trying to prove it for some fucking political reason... when the truth is... Exposure to violence can have a negative or a positive response.
For example.
Witnessing violence in a film, or videogame can be used in a positive manner AND NO.. it doesnt have to be structured just in the "witness" role.
You could watch a film, where the main character is slaughtering hundreds of people.... Is he a hero or a villain? Well that depends on the story now doesnt it? So how do you respond to such a film? Well that depends on the story doesnt it?
Why is story so important? It fullfills fantasys we all have. Some of us want to be heros, and others are pissed off at the bullies at their highschool. Is it the violent game that inspires those kids to go to school with guns and shoot everyone dead? Or was it how they were treated as human beings... IN THE REAL FUCKING WORLD.
Stories are stories. They are fantasy.
Real life violence causes either reaction. Sometimes negative, where you go into depression, or you get violent yourself.... sometimes positively... such as never ever wanting to cause harm to anyone, or to desire to end starvation.
There is REAL violence... and there are a myriad of responses one can have to it, based on its CONTEXT... and STORY. NO fucking MRI is ever going to be smart enough to describe exactly how we respond to violence. Its a fucking magnetic picture, not a mind reader or a fortune teller.
I think as people we should be far less concerned about violent entertainment, and more so the actual injustices of real life. Starving people become violent, people that lose their jobs so the ceo can make another million... makes people violent... or at least mad.
You see VIOLENCE is just an extreme value on the emotional meter. If people are mad, or feel wronged, insulted, embarrased, and dehumanized, they're leaning towards the angry side of our emotional meter.
A movie in your living room, is not enough to push you over the edge, because it is NOT REAL. Wake up folks... its NOT REAL.
And perhaps that is the problem, not the entertainment... but the fact that we so rarely deal with the REAL these days, versus the virtual. You're not your fucking bling bling, "You're not your fucking khakis":)
Come on folks, we all saw fight club didnt we? Did it fall on deaf ears or what? Maybe we're just too dumb
Itunes still wins because the damn Windows Media Player does not have a save position option for audio files! This makes listening to audio books, podcasts, and radio shows next to impossible.
Networks have been giving away their shows for free for years on TV. You just had to sit through the commercials. For years people could record the TV shows and do whatever they wanted with them... did this hurt the networks then? No.
The only thing different now is they sell TV shows on DVD more than they ever sold TV series on VHS. This is mainly because of the storage capacity increases and size factor of the storage... but people watch those shows for free... and even go to the lengths of buying them on DVD. Thats a pretty dam good base of consumers to treat fairly, because they like your shows, and have already seen them for free for which they could easily record themselves... AND they still want to buy them.
Giving away the shows for free online is not going to hurt them one bit. In a day with so many online distractions, so may cable tv stations... It is better to capture a wider audience anyway possible, rather than try to clamp down on consumers that would rather just go to youtube, or find something else to do. There are just too many options out there... and options have always been a good thing.
As much as i like the Mac, I'm actually happy to be back on my pc with Vista 64 Ultimate.
Vista is a step in the right direction. It needs to improve in every aspect, from performance to interface... but it is an improvement.
Vista 64-bit Ultimate is the OS has been a joy to use for the most part. The memory management has done some wierd things but Vista has been extremely stable for me.
The DRM sucks. We need to end that. It is absolutely wrong to force HDCP on a user, when the Geforce 8800 GTX cant do HDCP over dual link DVI. It is just fucking evil to enforce DRM that breaks previous standard hardware. My experience with the Geforce 8800 GTX is ridiculous. I cant watch a bluray or hddvd on my brand new pc because Nvidia failed to support HDCP on dual link dvi on a next generation card.
Vista has been much more stable than XP, and it is no doubt more secure.
However... your statement about Apple is true. My cousin just switched to Apple, and i'm already planning on buying a Macbook pro.
Apple is in a very good position right now. They provide real solutions, while Microsoft is stumbling. I mean look at the graphics viewer in Vista. It is a horrible peice of shit. If MS is going to integrate features, they better do so on a useable level for professional graphic designers, not just stupid mom and pop shit. Thats NOT what the OS is for, especially one named "ultimate" or "professional" or "buisness"
MS continues to crayola their os. They add features like the media player, which sucks compared to quicktime and itunes on the mac. They have piss poor thumbnail file format support in the os on Vista. Finally they added Tiff, but come on, how about TGA? PSD, EXR, IFF, PIC, etc
MS just doesnt get it. They barely provide any functionality in their OS. They list all of these features and in the end, most of them are so sub par, they are useless.
So what really is a windows OS?
Its a place where my programs run unfortunately.
Luckily Apple is gaining a lot of ground. Linux will never replace windwos or OSX on desktops. Its just too hard, and theres no support for the end user.
Apple has really mastered the user experience, and provides tools with their os for the professional.
Obviously you are not a professional photographer, or graphic artist. There is absolutely no substitute for Photoshop. If you think Gimp is a substitute you dont use or know photoshop at the pro level.
I think what he meant to say was that companies distributing products via the internet, using P2P are using the users bandwidth for free. That is not a choice of the user, but instead a dictated protocol by lets say a movie distribution company.
I'm not quite sure he meant that it isn't a users right to use P2P if they chose... but instead he wishes to prevent companies from using your bandwidth for free, for their monetary gain.
The attack on all P2P i think was a unintended target and just poor wording on his case.
I might be wrong on this.
My view is that P2P is a users right. They can do what they want with the bandwidth they pay for. But companies that charge you to download again lets say movies from them through a P2P system, should not expect to use my bandwidth for free, so that they can in return profit, and charge me for it.
I say this all the time... 9/11 was more violent than any videogame ever! and yet they will show the trade center being destroyed over and over on tv.
There are children around this country... MANY of them, whom their father or mother are coming home from Iraq, burned, mamed and dead.
There are 3,860 dead US soldiers, and over 60,000 wounded as a result of the war in Iraq.
THAT is real violence and its facilitated by our government under so called law.
I'll take violent entertainment over our government sending our "kids" to war over bullshit lies, and having 60,000 of them coming home with serious.. SERIOUS injuries.
These political idiots talk about supporting the troops... its just a phrase to drum up bullshit. They dont care, they never did... and the same thing can be said about this videogame issue. They dont care... Its all for political gain, just like phrases as "supporting the troops". Its just another form of "for the good of our children".
Its political nonsense, and these idiots get away with playing these bullshit moral games...
60,000 injured is NOT A FUCKIONG POLITICAL FUCKING SOUND BITE! It is real. It is our families, our children.... These idiots (republicans and democrates) talk about supporting the troops...
If they really cared, they would bring them home, and start rebuilding OUR COUNTRY so that these 60,000+ beloved Americans have a country they can be proud of to continue the rest of their lives, for which they've earned far more than ANYONE in the congress, senate or whitehouse.
If Hillary gets elected i'll go mad. Stuff like this is why she should never be president. She is so wrong on this issue and its such a simple issue. If she was a real leader she would say "Look folks, this is America. You do not need to buy entertainment that doesnt appeal to you, but you have absolutely no right to control what others chose to enjoy."
It is such a simple, and basic principle of our country, and she fails this test immediately. They all do. Joe Leiberman is a peice of shit who has been after "violent and sexual" material for years. The man fucking ran as an independent to retain power. He's a power hungry piece of shit that thinks his life is how you should live yours.
They fail this simple test. They break America. They broke the very simple rules!
The republicans do to btw. This is a bullshit issue, that they will use for personal gain... at the COST of our country... and the foundation and ideas it was based on.
for not understanding the concept of freedom of speech and free expression.
I dont care if its a game with raping babies in clown costumes...the government has absolutely no legal right to get involved. It's entertainment. Just like movies. This same idiot senators probably hold the film the Godfather or Saving Private Ryan in high regard... and yet games where you see similar levels of violence are deemed bad. Go figure.
Stop pandering to the stupid mothers and their children. Get to fixing this shit hole dieing country.
And George W Bush, starting an illegal war in Iraq wasnt "using governments power to mandate good behavior" ?
Get your terms right. Its not socialism. Its Fascism. The government serves the rich, and itself. It is out to make money and wield its power to make money. It does favors for the rich that need military force, and legal force to maintain their market dominance. The worst thing is examples like this, where the government uses the people's money, to punish the people in the interest of the rich.
Our government will eat our country alive, as long as its serving wealthy people's interests. Do not be fooled and think the corporations are American companies. They are multinational companies now, and they can leave ours on a heart beat, leaving us dead in the water if they so chose. These businesses have no interest in the well being of our country. They are not loyal to us, and they own our government... so our Government is not loyal to us.
America sucks, and it is that simple. I lived in America my whole life, and to see it change the way it has... is sad. We've streamlined our society into a working class society where the working families can not even afford to live her on the wages they are paid. The days of dad bringing home the paycheck while mom raises the family are over. Now Mom and Dad bring home 2 paychecks or more to barely survive. This governments fault. They continue to sell out the well being of our people at every chance they get.
Dont expect it to change, they have rigged the election processes as well. Both parties are the same and represent the same people, the rick. Have a nice day.

All of the WD My Books that i own are flakey in one way or another. I personally like Seagate far better as a company.
Yes it shows brain activity! woooooooooooooo.. Its called thought and response.
It doesnt mean its negative or positive response, that would still be up to the individual.
You've said nothing about Hillary Clinton. You state she has done many things for NY and yet you have not mentioned a single one.
Hillary Clinton has not done a thing for NY. I still live in NY. Chuck Shumer (spelling) has done the work for NY. Hillary hasnt done a dam thing.
Great, two big faceless companies are merging... Blizzard barely makes games, and Activision is a void of good ideas as well...
So Good luck with that company.

Gimp has a long ways to go.
I think what you've said is interesting. I dont at all believe that by letting them use our bandwidth, that we'll get a better price.
I still think buying the discs are the best option in quality and delivery. I do hope that process continues to be the norm.

THEY FAIL.
for not understanding the concept of freedom of speech and free expression.
We're a nation run by photo ops and sound bites.
Way to go Canada. Can i please move there now?
This kind of stuff is becoming typical of our America isnt it? :)
