I don't buy it either, and VCU is not exactly known as the best place for quality research, but... meta-analysis (the method this author uses) is a valid method for inference, even if somewhat squishy at the margains. If some faculty in Statistics at Stanford (one could easily make an argument that Stanford is the best Stat department in the world) have made meta analysis their bread and butter it isn't just lit review.
Furthermore... the whole concept of "regression to the mean" would suggest that in counties with the greatest support for Gore in 2000 would be those with the largest drop in support for the Dems in 2004.
I get the sense that many of you all are more than a bit quick to jump all over TiVo for something that they've not done and say that they're not going to do.
I guess you are saying you would like a TiVo.
You can either pay a one time fee of $300 (figure it into the price of the box) or you can pay $13/month... but not to cable barons, to a start up.

Whenever someone has to pay the Feds seem to turn to Californians with their hands out. On the other hand, when California has a need (for example, a need for the Feds to enforce Federal laws forbidding excessive energy charges), the Feds say that California is out of luck.
As probability and statistics professional, I need to disagree with you.
A Bayesian interpretation of probability would allow probability to measure one's belief about how likely any uncertain outcome would be to occur.
Sounds like you are insisting the Washington Post adopt the more common (but only slightly more common) relative frequency definition of probability

ps - the fact that I used to work at VCU should not, in any way, influence the way you read my comment.
um ... we statisticians call this fallacy "confusion of the inverse".
However, there is pretty much no way they would rename TiVo ... that would be like buying Disney and ABC and naming them Comney, ABCast.
Imagine trying to convince the family to got to Comcastland for a vacation...

ps - I bet that Comcast buys Apple too
Um ... I would think that a Statistics degree would be far more helpful if one were going to do data analysis than a Mathematics degree.

Are you sure you don't mean "because we BONED on that day"?
