  1. Be nice to the sales people? on Best Buy Sued By Ohio · · Score: 2, Insightful

Whenever I'm begrudingly dragged along to Best Buy by someone, I am constantly amazed by all the hoops you have to go through to make a purchase. By that I mean, if you want something, you're going to have to put up with someone trying to sell you a service plan more often than not, and on top of that, now they're trying to get you to buy magazine subscriptions on the way out (8 months free and then we mail you for the rest of your life!). Whatever happened to being able to just buy something?

As for being nice to salesmen? Hell no. Make them hate their job. I don't care if they're working for some mean old manager who's making them sell PSPs. The more misery you can rain down on them, the more likely they're going to quit working there. As the jobs open up, Best Buy has to hire less and less qualified people. As those people quit, the cycle repeats. Eventually, it will be all those asshole managers working triple-time trying to sell shitty service plans to people who are assholes right back to them. And then Best Buy collapses under it's own filth.

Feel bad about being mean? We don't go into war and not shoot the troops because their commanders are the really mean ones. We kill 'em ALL.

  3. Re:sooo? on U2 Threatens to Release Album Early on iTunes · · Score: 1

However, if it's available only illegally, then a fan who wants to hear the album has no choice but to break the law.

Uh, how about the choice to wait until the album comes out finished and legally? The idea that there's no choice in this is absurd.

I'm a fan of the stuff in your house, but if you only make it available to me by leaving your door unlocked I have no choice but to break the law.

  8. HDTV won't just affect couch potatos on Fifty Years of Color Television · · Score: 3, Insightful

As someone who is extremely interested in DV production, HDTV and more specifically HD DV are going to be a boon to the industry.

Consumer and pro-sumer cameras are going to get a whole lot better in terms of color sampling and resolution. The ability for the start-up movie maker or videographer to turn in a superior product will prove to be much better with this technology, also.

I don't know how much different the standard is for HDTV between different countries, but I'm sure if pros and the like don't have to choose between NTSC, PAL, and SECAM, there will also be quite a few happy people out there.

  10. His reasons aren't why the game industry will die. on Life After the Video Game Crash · · Score: 4, Informative

The game industry has been around a long time. It can adapt and change all it wants.

The real reason the game industry is going to die, though, is going to be me, the original gamer parent. All of us with Ataris and NESs and SNESs are now having kids.

I plan on playing video games with my kids.

How many times is my 8 year-old going to have to get beat down by me in Street Fighter 6 EX Alpha Plus+ before he chucks the controller across the room in disgust for having lost the 537th game in a row? How many UT2k12 frags and gibings before he breaks down and cries? Will I have to score 300 points in Madden 2011 before he finally gives in to my superior hand/eye coordination?

My kids are going to *hate* playing video games because dad is either using the system already, or they're going to get their noob ass handed to them each and every time they play.

Let's hope that Apple decides to revive the Cube once again. I small form factor business-ready 64-bit Mac might be able to break into the corporate world with all the talk of Macs superior security and ease. Besides, I'm still kicking myself for not picking up one of those things the first time around, though they would need to adjust the price a little lower too, to convince me. $999 for a G5 Cube might sell pretty well.

  14. Don't forget on History of a Famous Star Wars Scream · · Score: 1

There's three sounds besides that one that I always catch: the honking semi as it passes, the crowd cheer (made famous to me at least from Sim City), and tires screeching. I'm glad I'm not the only dork who notices stuff like this. :) Seems like these things are just passed around from set to set and make it into movies and TV.
