Our "DBA" comes up with some really whacked out designs that are just horrible, I've done both the data design and the code, but frankly our DBA is a windows dba.. not exactly anything special.

So it's ok for them to hose me for an extra half hour a day then ask for weekend time but not okay for me to leave as I have better things to do with my life then work.

Except for the fact that the company has / holds the data and nobody is verifying it's accuracy.
I'd feel better if a 3rd party payroll system automatically handled that data instead.

Would be nice to enforce regulations.

Now all we need is for all these exceptions for "salary" workers to go away and give us more protection from the asshole companies.

    $600/mo (car payment)
$120/mo (cable/internet, need internet for work cable = less money then going out to movies)

    $41/mo (pcdi school for fioncee)
$60/mo (server hosting, i get $30/mo back from a friend who hosts with me, needed for development)

Grand total of all bills is around $2,400/mo, which leaves roughly $400/mo to eat on / gas / pay down cc debt ($6.4k). So as you can see any little out of the ordinary expense and I'm over budget, I'm trying to sell my car right now and we're trying to fix up the condo to sell it and move to an apartment (dog would prefer house.. I'd like to have some money in savings).

My fioncee makes maybe $200 ~ $250/wk, but most of it gets used up in trying to fix up our house / spending money / medical bills (this hurt us mass as unmarried she doesn't get my medical benefits from work).

So yeah life sucks ass here. I'm in the midwest and can barely afford to live, I don't understand how people live in other areas. My last job to this job was $8.5k/yr salary cut and increased medical expenses / driving costs etc.... I've been told flat out no raise, but we were told a 5% raise if we can get this new product to work / sell but that raise not in effect till after a customer has bought it, so it coudl be a year out and only is for moving forward, that would still only be $140/mo take home increase my bills have gone up more then that in the past year alone.

I've had 2 trucks deliberately box me in to the point I could not see around the truck at all, in front or back, less then 2 ft from either truck.

I had to make a blind dart out to the next lane to get out of this situation.

I know many of the programmers around me are still trying to get a clue how to code so they look like they're doing much more, but those of us who know what we're doing aren't needing to do that quite as much.

I make sure to investigate most new major languages that come out to be familiar with their functions to see where it may be of greater use, but you have to make sure to not change till it is warranted. The latest language may not be the best solution for the job as you lose all of the knowledge & experience your work force has in the older technology already.
