having been recently and currently dealing with the e-file system with the IRS I can tell you that most of your gripes about not being able to e-file are far less the hell then it is to actually interface with the IRS. I wrote a commercial software application to do this interfacing and went through all the required documentation / forms etc... it's not simple or quick, there is no "API" to interface with the IRS, it's old school flat files and Z-modem.

I'm going to have to side with the IRS that an open source application is not suited to this environment as there's no accountability on checking of it's data and allowing any random person's code to transmit to the IRS could cause hell into the system.

Open source is great for non-government.

I firmly reject the idea of letting code out into the wild that anyone can modify be allowed to transmit to the IRS.

I don't think homework is the issue at all.

It's the school day being far too short, why in the hell are we sending kids home at 3pm??? It would make a lot more sense to have them kept on for a full working day to get through the years of education faster and out into the real world. This would give them time to actually finish the school work at school where they can be properly supervised.

    Other issues:
    * uniforms are definately needed, wtf is with having kids with no sense of structure at all to school, do you really think a kid takes school seriously while dressed like a little g-thug??
    * discipline, why do we have teachers getting stabbed / shot in places? Kids need to be taught respect for authority and this is coming from a trouble maker growing up!

You have to get kids to be able to focus on the material for them to learn and you need an environment thats safe for both student and teacher. If you reduce things down to everyone in uniforms and easy color coding of problematic / special students for easier identification you can make the problem a whole lot simpler. If this sounds a lot like prison to you, well then you're probably right and thats a good thing as a lot of these kids are going to end up there anyways if they can't curb half the f'd up shit that goes on these days.

IT is NOT about University Degrees, sorry but 9 out of 10 people that go to college for this industry are the ones who don't belong here. Naturals are the best in this industry plain and simple, the kid who goes home every day and spends 6 hours a night learning on his own are the ones with the true talent that companies need to survive. A college kid can draw me a pretty diagram of a solution and slap a lot of fancy names to it but a natural will have already finished the project and gone back to playing quake and would just assume not be bothered.

Some people actually enjoy programming, yeah I know a shock, guess what there's people that work in factories that are happy too. Not everyone needs to be shooting for the managers job, hell that would be a bad move for most people out there. Management is good for people who are good managers. Good IT person is not necessarily a good IT Manager.

Thats great that you work for a fortune 1000, that is if you like that kind of job. I've worked in everything from small to fortune 500 companies, and frankly the best experiences we're to be had in the smaller organizations. Only 1 place in my life did I ever have a problem getting hired due to lack of a degree, Cintas wanted to hire me out of a contracting gig I was there on but couldn't because someone in HR demanded a college degree to do the job I'd been doing already for over 6 months. Funny how the kid without the degree is good enough to pay consulting hourly rates for but you won't hire on for less money as an employee, yeah thats bright thinking...

Things are no way near as cut and dry as you make them sound, everyone gets ahead in life in their own way, and each of us has a different idea of sucess. You're idea of sucess is to play corporate games to get to the top, many people in IT are just happy to work with the technology and enjoy programming, others just like the fact they can get away with more being in IT. I could care less how late a sysadmin is to work as long as everything is working, a good sysadmin shouldn't have to show up very often.

i definately have to agree that it is retarded how our laws our written especially when free speech is taken into account

So the government tells you that you have freedom of speech and freedom of press, so lets use your example and test these "rights" they supposedly can't take a way:
    * Can you take pictures of your hypothetical 16 yr old gf in a state where it is legal by age of consent and post them freely in a publication? No, that as previously stated would be distributing child pornography, but what happened to freedom of the speech / press?

This doesn't make much sense, our legal system really does need a cleaning of house (and i don't mean by some bitch running the sweeper in the house of representatives). Our laws started very simple with basic rights and moved into retardedness from there.

If a child is defined as under 18 then how do you convict a child of an adult crime with adult punishments? By doing so you're violating the first law that they're a minor.

If I'm gauranteed freedom of the press why can't I publish a paper called "Fuck niggers and ya know what hitler was right about dem jews", legally I cannot publish such "obscenities".

Why is it in a free country I can't freely choose who I sell my own house to? I can't decline selling it to a black person but a 55+ retirement community can refuse to sell to me based on age. How is age descrimination against the young legal but not against the old? How is descrimination of 1 kind legal and yet another is not?

As much as I love the ideals our country claims, I think we've truly forgotten what the creators of this country had envisioned, we've become worse then what our fore fathers hoped to escape in england. We need a new slogan "America home of the Hypocracy"
