It doesn't use Alkaline batteries, only NImH rechargeables or a LIon battery pack. So, you won't be replacing batteries for $1.79 a set. But a $13 set of AA Rechargeables (bought in bulk) is a lot cheaper than a $50 - $100 proprietary battery pack, and a available easily from multiple sources.

An easy way to turn generic hardware into a Hackintosh would be great. I own many Macs of all vintages. I have several 3 - 5 year old PC's, the newest being a Dell Dimension 530 I'd love to turn into a Mac Desktop since it's faster and has a bigger HDD than my Core Duo 2.0ghz Mini. Someday, I might be able to afford a new iMac or a Mac Pro tower. But, there's just too much noise in every Psystar thread. Like 99 to 1, noise to signal.

  15. Re:Nuke Plants More Dense on World's Largest Solar Plants Planned In California · · Score: 2, Insightful

Except that our "friends" the Liberals and Green Folks WON'T LET US build more Nuclear Power Plants, even though their friends the French derive over 80% of their electrical power from Nuclear, and other countries like Japan derive the bulk of their power from Nuclear too!

France reprocesses it's nuclear waste back into fuel because the generating process isn't 100% efficient. All you have to do is to process the fuel rods and concentrate the still useful material and remove the waste, and "Voila!" as the French say... You have more fuel.

All the nuclear waste generated by all the nuclear plants in the world would fit into a container the size of a standard desk, I've heard.

I like solar. It's infinitely renewable (at least in human terms), and as we develop the technology it becomes more efficient and cheaper. It takes much less to build and manage a solar plant than a nuclear plant.

I'd like to see us build BOTH. The U.S. is mostly empty, unused land. We have plenty of space to build solar farms.

I'd go further and say that every building in the country ought to have solar collectors on their roofs AND solar water heaters for pre-heating water to further save power.

The more we can get our electrical generating capacity off fossil fuels the better we'll be.

We need Nuclear for base-load power, and solar would be great for peak load times when the sun will be out, and extra energy is needed to run cooling plants like air-conditioners.

Also, places near large bodies of water could use that method that is being used in Chicago (I believe) where very cold water is pumped up from the bottom of the lake and used to cool buildings.

We need to conserve, because it's smart. But we need to expand energy sources to grow.

One cannont grow by conserving. Nobody ever made a million by starting off with a dollar and saving .10

I've been trying to sync my music to the unit since Monday (today is Wednesday). It reports that 20gb is used (My collection is less than 8gb), but only about 8 albums show up on the unit. I told the Zune software to erase the unit (losing all the pre-loaded items which I'm told I will lose forever unless I pay for them again...), and it pretended to erase the unit, but actually didn't. The Zune software is awful and non-intuitive. The user experience is awful. It's like someone decided to make a player that was the exact opposite of the iPod in ease of use, user experience, and software design. My Dell DJ was 100x better than this, and it wasn't as good as an iPod at all. It's a shame that Microsoft took a good player (the Toshiba Gigabeat) and turned it into something so much less than it's progenitor. Microsoft doesn't seem to understand that a company has to serve it's customers, not itself... The Zune is a flop in my opinion. I'm going to buy an iPod which is what I should have done in the first place. I just wanted to try the Zune. I made a wrong choice. Choosing Microsoft lately has become a bad choice... The company isn't interested in providing me the best user experience at the best price. It seems more interested in just squeezing me for every penny it can.

But, Tiger will be worth that kind of money. It's a major OS supported by lots of Apps.

Zeta needs to sell for around $49.95US without Gobe Productive bundled in. Gobe Productive ought to be offered for another $19.95US for those of us who don't already own it.

Zeta needs to get a lot of installations out there. At the current pricing, what will happen is that there will be a lot of piracy and darn few sales.

Selling it for $50US won't eliminate the piracy, but it should increase the sales of the OS quite a bit.

I would like to own it and use it. But, $127 is too much money for an OS I'm only going to play with.

Zeta looks nice. It's a shame it's going to be priced so high, that I can't justify buying it.

What I was trying to say is that a DMS is in no way responsible for how an artist is paid.

    That's not true.

If I run a store and I sell unauthorized copies of copyrighted books, I am doing something illegal.

Especially... If I *KNOW* the copies I'm selling, I'm printing in my back room and no money is going to the copyright holder.

Even if I claim to be holding money aside to sent to the copyright holder, the absence of an advanced agreement (contract) still makes what I'm doing illegal.

It's would be like someone selling my house, and then preseting me with the fait accompli and a check. What if I didn't want to sell my house?

Or didn't want them selling my house?

It's the absence of a contract with the copyright holder or their authorized representative (record label or agent), that makes this wrong.

It doesn't matter if you spent $99.99 for the album... what the artist receives is 100% up to the label. A label is like a bank in that they essentially loan an artist money to create an album. Every time the album is sold the label takes its cut. The artist usually doesn't make anything until the label has been repaid. After that they might make royalties anywhere in the 0-25% range (it varies wildly depending on the complexity of the contracts and the status of the artist). This may not be the "best" deal for the artists but the labels do (in many cases) perform services that many artists are in desperate need of: marketing, packaging, distribution, and tour support. FYI: not all labels are "evil"... even those who are members of the RIAA. It's really a matter of perspective.

That's non-sequitor. An artist with a contract with a record label is the normal, legal, moral way to do it.

The way "AllofMP3.com" does it, doesn't pass the "smell test".

    I won't patronize a service like that.
