    Tried to push an all thin client world about 6 years ago. That worked out real well for them. Bandwidth isn't there, its not going to work.

    Because they don't feel its programming if you don't have to worry about buffer overflows all the time and VB doesn't use semi-colons, something most slashdotters believe a programming lanuage must have.

    Its not a wrapper around C#. Its C# pier. They both compile to IL, not VB.NET to C# to IL.

    The article mentions 47,000 .NET programming and only 5500 ASP.NET jobs. Almost every job I've ever interviewed for that uses .NET is using it mainly for ASP.NET.

    You mentioned from the input on the ATM is what you implied with your post about the college terminals. If you are talking through the network port than yeah I don't disagree that it is hackable. But any type of system with a network connection is hackable.

    You couldn't hack it in your whole life time without a true input device or somesort of magnetic input or network connection. You'll only have access to the displays they give you. What are you going to do cause a buffer overflow by holding down one of the 10 buttons they give you for input for 2 hours.

    Troll its a fact, Dell sells more desktops in a week than the Mac Mini will sell in its whole production run. The fact is Mac is a legacy computer running a architechture not needed or wanted in business or home. I can't believe that people on this board are so pro Mac considering its processors lack of power, its over priced nature, and lack of software for it. It provides no benefit over Linux and no benefit over Windows, which are both better OS's. That is not an opionion its a fact, both hold better market share. But you'll make up some stupid reason about how Mac is still better because of Aqua or something or the Mac Mini, which is going to be a market failure, Apple's stock is upbecause they are becoming a music distro company not a computing company. Look at why stock analysts like it and think before you write something you know nothing about.

    Apple comes out with all kinds of crap people don't want. Do you remember they came out with keyboards that folded up to prevent carpal tunnel. How about the Mac mini, what a nich computer, its not going to sell to John Q public in America. It doesn't even come with a keyboard or mouse, you can get a Dell with Windows XP that runs millions of software packages for the kids and parents alike or you can get a Mac which has about 10 current software packages. What make Jobs different is the fact he doesn't accept that the Mac is a failed platform, its the Betamax of home computers.

    Actually Mac stole the whole GUI idea from Xerox, where do you think the X in all things GUI comes from? You see Xerox thought of the whole idea and the mouse, just they're executives where to dumb to see the future. Plus Microsoft didn't steal SQL Server from Sybase, they had a partnership and decided to go seperate ways.

    I don't think releasing the source code would be a smart business move for a company that own OS market in most market segments. Plus Apple doesn't really have street cred as a high performance computing company one cluster in Virginia doesn't make you a high performance computing company. Macs aren't even considered good enough to run tasks for most businesses, yet you think they are high performance computing. I agree Sun, HP,IBM but not Apple no way.

    Wow. When you compare this to the standard capability of OS X, it seems like a real rip off. You get reduced functionality. Why?

    Except for the fact that OSX can't hold a candle to Windows Server 2003. OSX Server is toy for big kids with lots of money, Windows Server 2003 gets work done.

    Of course the Mac mini is an overpriced little box with little use. A complete Dell system costs the same and has much more processing power and a better OS.

    Spammers are annoying, but legislating it in the US will not stop it. Our laws are powerless to stop people in other countries from Spamming us. Nine years is rediculous he should have got a week at most in jail for 10,000 emails. You take geekdom to seriously. Tell me have you ever ping'd a server to test your Internet connection, maybe you should get 20 years in jail for attempting to dos attack it. Just like anybody can send mail to anybody, you should be allowed to send email to anybody. Email should regulated by ISP's and connection providers not the government. In the age of terrorism, drugs, drunk driving and serial murder I don't want law enforcement and the justice system wasting time on something so minor. If you think email can be rendered unsuable by Spam you have no confidence in technology.

    If the law is to deter why don't Drunk Drivers get stiffer terms. Maybe because the beer and liquour companys are powerful lobiers while no one lobby's in favor of SPAM, hence a tougher penalty for a lesser crime. Don't tell me consuming some bandwidth is worst than endangering peoples lifes.

    They can overturn convictions if they find the jurory did not follow the letter of the law. They can not overturn acquitals.

    I think it is a terrible injustice to make somebody spend 9 years in jail for sending spam. The article notes that they sent 10,000 emails in 3 days. That isn't really that many. For something slightly annoying that you have to delete if your filter doesn't catch it. Whats an injustice is people getting no time for drunk driving which indangers lives or 3rd degree murderers getting 5 years.

    Delphi is nice, but it lacks the marketing power of VS.NET. Do a monster search on VB.NET or C# then do Delphi, I think you will see the skill sets that will make you most marketable. Now if you live in a major metro, maybe you can get away with going with something else but otherwise I think a lanuage from VS.NET is your best choice for job possiblities, given the fact that the original post did say it was for Windows programming.

    The key here is its the cost of the server. Which includes the hardware and the operatin system. The average Sun Solaris system is much more expensive than the average Dell Windows system. You also left out Windows 2003 Small Business Edition and Web Edition which are both cheaper in price. Plus where are your AIX numbers, or is that too expensive. Plus Suse doesn't have a very large footprint to be taken seiously for adding into that 5.2 billion.

    So I am guess your are not very good with computers, if you need to waste your time thinking about the difficult windows interface. Lets face it Windows has flaws but its interface is easy to use.

    Whats that math your trying to show. I think most Unix servers are more expensive than most Windows Servers. Like this Sun Server that costs $752,085. I doubt you'll find many Windows servers that cost more than that and its not even Suns highest model. Lets face it Windows primarly runs on x86 while Unix runs on all sorts of expensive architechtures. Your math is serioulsy flawed because I've never been in an organization that has purchased a server for $500 or $1000 to get what you need for business it is going to cost more. This isn't your home network here.
