  1. Could this be the reason behind the DDoS attack?? on Blizzard Wields The Banhammer Again · · Score: 1

  2. improved updater on Mozilla Announces Extend Firefox Contest Winners · · Score: 2, Interesting

How about upgrading the windows version without leaving the old version number in the add/remove programs? I have to update 40 or 50 machines at a time and it's a pain uninstalling before installing.

  3. Looks like version 1.5 to me. on Mozilla Firefox 1.5 RC3 Released · · Score: 1

After getting back to my desk I saw the update window for Firefox. After clicking on it it restarted and the new Help>About window shows 1.5. Nothing about 1.5-rc3.

One thing I find a little dissapointing is that it does not save the links to the pages you were surfing but instead brings you to your default home pages. While I know this might be a little hard to do or deal with due to post information on some pages but it would be nice for firefox to attempt to bring you back to the place you were before.

  4. Re:Surely it's a bit late.... on New Phone Service Promises to ID Songs · · Score: 1

why wait for the dj to announce the song? What if it's a cd in a department store or bar? no announcement there at all. source can be any song. not just from radio.

  5. This service is OLD! on New Phone Service Promises to ID Songs · · Score: 1

This service has been available here in Switzerland for years! 1) dial number. 2) hold phone up to speaker for 10-20 seconds. 3) check to see if the number you dialed has hung up. (once it recognizes the song it will hang up) 4) wait for SMS with the song name and performer. 5) you are charged for the SMS. no subscription necessary. (profit for them)

  6. use google on FBI's New Info-Sharing Software Project Fails · · Score: 1

I think they should come up with an online form for the principal information and then put the rest in a free form text box based on a few rules. then add notes and opinions. throw all of this in a big database and then sic the google search engine on it. (or perhaps gigablast or A9) Of course this would all be on a private network that could recieve case info from the outside world probably via encoded e-mail or vpn. Each bit of info would be double checked by editors for spelling mistakes and accuracy then approved to go into the database. but the system would not be allowed to divulge info outside a few authorized machines which were located in secure FBI offices. The search engine would return results that could be forwarded to agents in the field if needed by authoized personel.

also for the record I use only Linux at home and XP professionally. I have had a XP machine infected during install at work. Ever since I have never deviated from the above methods. Doing so would be a waste of time.
