  1. Everyone send in a CD! on EFF Pushes Consumers to Claim Rootkit Compensation · · Score: 1

After RTFA... I've decided it's in my best interest to download one of the listed CDs from the Interwebs for free. Then, after burning it to CD, producing a receipt of my web request for a torrent and finding enough stamp monies for my envelope, I will send my nice NON-drm-riddled into the company with my full name and address for some fun lawsuit action.

It did not specify that the CD must be the original did it? AND Do you think they will give me sweet iTunes downloads for the frees?

  4. The Blockbuster Plan from the horse's mouth! on Blockbuster Sued Over Late Fees Claim · · Score: 5, Insightful

When I was at Blockbuster recently, the customer in front of me asked about the "the end of late fees". This is exactly what the employee told the customer, word for word...

"This lets you keep the rental for a couple of days extra, just to allow you extra time."

That was pretty much about it, nothing about the restocking fee, which was just appeared on their price list one day. Nothing about after 30 days, we charge your credit card on file for the rental value of the rental.

The reason for the lawsuit is simple... they changed the way they do their rentals, because they suspect that you could accidentally forget aobut the rental and then keep it too long, but then since they will debit your credit card, by the time you find out, it's too late.

Now, here is the problem, you were NEVER told about the restocking fee or the 30 days late we charge you. That is down right wrong. They should tell you EXACTLY what will happen. Even in the commerical, there are no little words at the bottom of the screen or some crazy fast talking guy.

It's riding VERY close on false advertising, but it is the end of late fees... they just have restocking fees and purchase charges!

So the camera spins on it's internal axis to capture a single image that is freakin huge. Ok... that is great... actually kinda cool.

But it's NOT really a 70 megapixel camera it can't take all those 70 megapixels at one time.

That would be like producing a digital camera that would shift it's lens really really fast in the 4 diagonal directions to piece together an image that was 4 times the original size.

I think they are going for marketing points on this one. What is honestly stoping a camera company from putting out a camera that actually shoots at 5MP but they double the image size and interpolate the subpixels and say it's a 10MP camera?

When I grab stuffs off the internet at 72dpi and I need to enlarge it, I use the same technique. I just think the whole MP thing is becoming just like the MHZ craze that started when AMD tossed the Athlon on the market.

The cable company is going lobby against this big time. If someone just wants TechTV only at their office, it's going to cost them big time. The cable company would at least like to make some profit off of everyone of their subscribers.

With RH losing a lot of stock in the tech world, I foresee Debian becoming more mainstream. The only problem about this is, Debian is usually an elitist group of users. Many users of Debian before I switched (06/2003), would just say... "You use Redhat? What are you a girl or something?" I just told them, "Bah... you stink! RPM is the coolest thing ever!" Well, I wish I could have gone back to the days when I was stupid. :) The new Debian install almost makes it as easy to install as Windows. I don't think a GUI is needed for installing an OS onto a machine, plus it causes overhead in the installer and on the disk.

IMHO... someone should create a "smart" installer that says... "I see you have Windows installed. I can remove it for you. Please press return."

I don't think it would be any problem. A good scripter/programmer could easily figure it out. I wish I could...
