I don't look for sources recently, but when I was working with java 1.3 version, when you download the JDK from them there is a src.jar in there. Inside is the source files for the Java classes. I remember because I checked in there to look at how they'd implemented something at that time.
Btw, I auctioned something online for the first time recently, trying both Ebay and Yahoo. Yahoo Auctions does not charge listing fees, and is much simpler to use and navigate (although partly because they don't have price figures next to widgets -- if you check this widget, we charge you this much). So for the seller, Yahoo auctions is a lot better, and I'm sad the focus hasn't shifted from Ebay already. One reason I can think of is those established sellers on Ebay don't want to give up their 'trust karma':/
Yahoo really should promote their auctions more, encourage more people to browse it so that it's worth it for sellers to list there. You can only list in one place at a time.
On to the other question, why were SSNs on there? Well, CMU is still stupidly using them as your student ID number. Up until this year they were encoded on your magnetic stript of your student ID card. You can change it, but they look at you funny when you ask to do that.
They don't anymore, do they? Up until this year, yes, but now students are issued different numbers (different from social security), although they don't have to remember it, the card takes care of it.
The company I will be working for doesn't treat their employees on H-1B visas in any different way than the others. I also have friends on H1B at many companies (some: Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, Microstrategy, ATI) that are not treated in any way different from American PR or citizens. As for pay, of course I don't have absolute numbers, but as anecdotal evidence, I'm being offered pay that is in line with the average salary range for my experience.
If the H-1B program was held to a vote, I don't think it would pass. It is corporate bribery (compaign donations, lobbying, etc.) that put it in place.
I don't know about this, but I believe allowing H1Bs helps grow the American economy significantly. And anyway, in the current job market, most small companies are not sponsoring H1B visas anymore -- I know this because I was job hunting this year. The only companies that are sponsoring H1Bs are those big corporations that have the money and absolutely want top talent. So the hiring differentiator is not really the pay or how hard the employee can be slavedrived, imho.
I agree that Winamp 5 is awesome... I love it. Winamp 2 was great, but Winamp 5 is better, and I don't even use the skins. I like the library system, with their SQL-like language for you to specify things like "newly added items that haven't been played yet" etc. The UI is great for organizing media, and I need it cuz I have so much music. Since getting the version 5 I realise I don't need to categorize my music anymore... just type "rock" and it gives you everything associated with rock, or type musician name, or whatever. And it's really nice the way the UI integrates the bookmarks, playlists, streaming TV and radio. The "rescan Watch folders" button is nice. The whole thing is a lot, lot better than Windows Media Player by far.
So I'm really sad there will be no more extensions:(
btw, how many of you have tried gmail? i think the interface is incredible.. its hard to imagine that web based email has been around for such a long time and nobody came up with an interface as nice as this. perhaps its just that i have a very fast connection, i'd have to try whether it works as well on slower connection speeds also.
to the answer of how google does it: google seems to take whatever they do, and do it very well! even the example of email graphical user interface, which nobody even cares to talk about.
The article clearly states several times that one of the reasons jobs are being outsourced to India is because they speak good English. I of course assume you mean English when you say "my language".
