Our tax dollars at work.
Would you rather that they had put another $Billion of our tax dollars into a spy satellite that would be uselessly drifting in space right now because of the partial failure of this untested rocket?
How about health? Environment? Education? Alternative Fuels research? I can think of 1000's of better things to spend money on. But then again I'm not a war monger from America either...
To say "it's illegal, therefore it's wrong" is a fallacy. That's making an assumption that government knows best. If that was the case, blacks and women would still be considered property.
What if the MPAA turns to you and says you can't invite people over to your home and watch a movie because it infringes on their copyrights? Will you simply bow down and say "okay...".
Really, if I take a movie, and invite some friends over, or if I stream it to a few friends to watch it, what's the difference?
The ones they should nail are the pricks that are out there trying to profit from this by selling bootleg dvds. Go to Chinatown and see how easy they are to find.
Sorry dude, but it's the most over-prescribed drug in N. America next to Prozac. She's written tonnes of papers on how terrible that drug is, and that most of the kids on it really shouldn't be on it.
As a whole, it's a terrible drug. It may have helped you, and I'm sure you're greatful. Truth is that most of the kids on it shouldn't be.
We already have Ritalin. Is this one closely related to methamphetamine, too?
A psych prof of mine, Dr. Wilma Marshall, explained to me that Ritalin was like Cocaine for kids.
In a related story I worked with this guy who stole his kids Ritalin for a trip once. Said the exacty same thing - it's like Cocaine without the hangover the next day.
Actually, I like the look of the pro macs - the G5 and such. The emac is a stupid looking toy, and the imac looks like a desk lamp. But the G5 is pretty sharp looking - simple elegance.
Mind you I have a Thermaltake Case, so that says a lot about me as a nerd:)
FWIW a burglary tax on pawn shops would be an excellent idea. It means pawn shops pay less to thieves, meaning that thieves get less for their loot, which means there might be a dissincentive to steal. I really like that idea.
Hmmm. I like that you admit you have limited experience, but I hardly see how you can judge the quality of life based on whether you share a bathroom with others on the same floor in a hotel a good basis for judging standard of living. You don't know how many years that hotel's been around, and just because something is old doesn't mean it's bad. Perhaps 200 years ago there was a trend in architecture to build such hotels?
Really, how about looking at something aggregate like infant mortality rate? That's an amazingly strong indicator about the health of a nation.
Honestly, I believe with the CD-R levy, the money goes to Canadian artists, not US artists. I'm all for giving them more money anyway - we underfund our arts in Canada. It's no big deal anyway - $40 gets you a spindle of CD-R's... Hardly anything to get your nuts in a knot over.
My thinking is that maybe such high rates of incarceration as a general policy are the problem, and are not contributing to the improvement of American society.
Putting this guy away for nine years hardly serves the good of society. Yeah, what he did was bad, but really, worse than rape?

(I would have read TFA if it wasn't slashdotted)
(Please, if you feel compelled to answer me, realize that it's just a joke about a joke about a joke...)
Okay, it's gone too far now...

Does it run on linux?

Are you seriously suggesting that ordinary people could add or subtract 3 digit numbers?
Doesn't really matter now - people always call you from overseas and ask you dumb-ass questions like "What time is it over there???"
Am I the only one the thinks that having an extra week on a "Newton" year is more stupid than our current system?
What a 'tard...

America is the #1 medicated country in the world.

Does cocaine make people smarter?
Hahaha.... New iMac? Where the hell was I?? Wholly shit!
Ooops!
=D
But then, as a teenager, you discover you have the same unlimited access to porn, and are then satisifed...
Hmmm, don't know about you, but as a web developer, sometimes I'm called upon to do some photoshop work - hardly waht I'd call low-intensity...
Dude that was awesome... Thanks for sharing :) Looks like it's been in the works for a while lol...

They can't sue customers - the Supreme Court has already ruled that downloading music is legal.

Hmmm - I can buy a spindle of 100 CD-R's for about $40 after the stupid levy. Really, how bad is it? I think of it as a license to copy personally...
Actually, us nerds are moving everyone we know to Firefox, except for the few weirdos who like Avant and Opera ;)
My point is that 9 years jail for this is a bad idea. It's a waste of money.
Jail time is relative; you look to other crimes to determine the amount of time someone should do for a crime.
You look at a rapist or a armed robber and weigh it against this guy's crime.
Really, was it as bad as rape or robbery?
My thinking is that maybe such high rates of incarceration as a general policy are the problem, and are not contributing to the improvement of American society.
Putting this guy away for nine years hardly serves the good of society. Yeah, what he did was bad, but really, worse than rape?
Yeah, America already has the highest per-capita incarceration rates in the world.
Really, is the policy working?
And it also has a severe memory leak that makes this program almost completely unusable.
Doesn't matter anyway, file swapping is legal in Canada. Yay!
Tax software is moving to a web based model. Let's face it - it's easier to control.
It's just accounting software now... And that's a big hurdle.
Thanks! That was exactly my point :) Just thankful that someone actually understood it...
