    They seem to be OK with all those drugs that are shown in commercials all the time. Some of those side affects are scarier than the thing they are trying to treat.

    Dunno, but if I personally got HIV, and this drug was available overseas with a 99% chance of success, I think I'd risk id, and hop on a plane and get it.

    I mean, HIV is the #1 killer right now. If you sacrifice 1,000 to save 100,000 - that's fine by me. Even if I was in the group of 1,000.

    I feel bad for you that the people you work with are forcing you to support a five year old browser.

    Really, it's an easy pitch. You show how many customers use Nutscrape 4.7x and demonstrate the amount of business they would lose if they didn't support it.

    Nutscrape 4.xx usage acounts for 0.2% now.

    Some banks still use Nutscrape 4.xx. Users who can't afford faster PC's use it. The former aren't allowed to surf much of anything. The latter don't have money for a pc. They probably don't have money for the product you're selling either.

    Your higher-ups lack business sense.

    See, you haven't provided an argument why we send drug dealers and drug users to jail. A civil libertarian would argue: my body my choice. Sending a drug user to jail is stupid and a waste of taxpayer money. Thank god they figured that out in Canada.

    The best way to stop spammers is to get every idiot in america to stop buying from them.

    Thing is, the morons keep buying penis pumps and generic viagra. So the spammers keep spamming.

    You have two choices; put the spammer in jail or ruin the cost-effectiveness of spam. Instead of spending money on jailing people, why not just start an aggressive marketing campaign instead?

    Dude, netscape 4.7x is at least six years old now, Is that the best use of a developer resource? Supporting a crappy browser that less than 1% of the world runs?

    I develop for Firefox, because I know porting my code to IE takes little effort, and I support choice and standards.

    NS 4.7x is crap. It's css support is pathetic, and it's dhtml blows. If you write for NS4.7x, you might as well write for lynx too - wouldn't want to alienate them either.

    Yeah, but it might cause harm to Firefox... If they see somewhere that Nutscrape is based on FF, but it adds all that useless crap in the browser like a stock ticker and a news ticker and stuff, they might switch back to IE.

    I'd rather see a stronger marketing push for Firefox personally. It's making great strides. I've got everyone I know converted now...

    It used to be that Firefox was based on old Netscape code
    I thought that Firefox was a rewrite from scratch.

    Actually, it has some potential. The color is horrid, but I kinda don't mind the icons on the buttons.

    The rest of it is goddawful ugly though.

    It's worse than the NS6/Mozilla 1.0 "Modern" theme...

    FWIW THough, I like the base FF theme - sweet and simple.

    Yeah, but Firefox has a lot of people talking now. Firefox is getting a name for itself, and the more techies that push it out to people who are spyware ignorant, the better off we'll be...

    Netscape, for many users, has a stigma of suckiness.

    I'm fine though with another brand getting Firefox to the masses - doesn't hurt right?

    Okay, that was pretty funny dude...

    In my childhood, I WAS the remote control. We had a budget dial TV.

    Later, that TV was enhanced with an act of knob-wiggling. Apparantly I was the only one that could get the knob centered to get a signal.

    lol I think my parents really knew how to make it work, but they were enjoying having a remote control - granted sometimes it wasn't responsive as others, so it needed a kick in the pants or two lol!

    Actually, I'm almost 30, and I think there's something to be said about having a camera in the phone. Living in such a deeply litigious age, it's almost handy to have something that can give you evidence. A phone you'll always have on you, but your camera you might not have on your persona. Sometimes a photo adds a lot of credibility.

    I'm with you sort of. KDE -> yes - totally too much going on to be a good UI for all but the power user. GNOME is a bit cleaner in that sense. Sit an end user down in front of each computer and they'll figure both out eventually though... Although KDE will take a bit more time to explain.

    Yeah, and yet you figured them all out. Imagine that!

    I recall the windows 95 design flaw - the ability to accidentally reduce your taskbar to 0 so you couldn't see the start button any more. Boy did I get a lot of calls from friends and family about disappearing start button. XP finally solved that with the locking taskbar.

    Windows has come a long way since win95 in usability. UI is not an absolute; it's an evolution.

    Some how, Apple's made their products of late fashionable. An ipod looks cool apparantly, so it's a must have product.

    Apple also offers deep discounts to learning institutions. Schools have always been good business for apple for as long as I can remember. I can see why powerbooks are getting more popular; they look great, and are probably just as affordable when you add in the academic discounts.

    Hmmm... Installing software from the web gets you a warning....

    Installing Bonzai buddy... That's like throwing in an engine mod... Car manufacturer's liability ends the moment you change the configuration of your car.

    I don't think Windows is liable for what Bonzai buddy does, any more than GM is liable if you throw exhaust headers in your Cavalier...

    No, IE runs under whatever user you are logged in as. One should definately learn to manage users. No argument there.

    Yet we all own cars... If you are too stupid to add oil to your car and you burn out your engine... It's not the manufacturers fault. There's a certain level of responsibility the users should bear as well. Users have a right to be stupid, but should pay up when they screw their computers up the same way car owners should pay if they don't maintain their vehicle or use it correctly.

    Again, Bullshit! There's security holes in Linux and FreeBSD. That's why we have utilities in Fedora like up2date, portupgrade, etc. So you can automate the patching of those security holes.

    Bullshit. The only real difference is that (in KDE/Gnome) a popup occurrs to type in your root password before installing. Big fucking deal. You think for a second that if windows had that, Bonzai Buddy and that stupid temperature tray thingy wouldn't end up on windows workstations? Dream on. The GP is correct -> windows is targeted becuase of two reasons: 1) Market Share, 2) Lowest average IQ of users.
