  2. My Reasons forNot using Windows on What Keeps You Off of Windows? · · Score: 1

    1) The Cost. I have 8 computers, 3 of which are servers(7 of the 8 are here in my house) No why would I want to pay $200 (The cost of Win XP Pro, as home has annoying issueswith PDC's and networks) per computer and $600+ per server for an OS when I can do everything I want for free? 2) Stability. I like being able to leave my servers running 24x7x365 WHy would I want to have to reboot them on a regula basis when I don't have too. And for the uptime quotes check out www.netcraft.com 3) Security. Encrypted filesystems built into NTFS yet? Not having to worry about Microsoft saying stupid programs are "Security Fixes" like msn messenger (What's up with that). Not having OUtlook/Outlook Express Automatically opening every piece of mail by default. Not Having my word proccessor trying to infect the computer using macros by default. (Yes I know you can disable these things, but if microsoft were security minded they would come isabled by default) 4) Application Costs. There are lots of Applications that come with most Linux Distros that you would have to pay for the euivilent on Windows. 5) GUI. I use Windowmaker, I don't like KDE or Gnome becuase they are System Hogs, and WIndows is even worse. I like th fact that the total running size is anywhere from 3-8MB's. Also, it is fast, simple, and straight forward. 6) System Resources. My servers are Dual P2 266 & 300MHz machines with 2MB PCI Video Cards, I like the server OS to be usableNot slow as Molasses on a winter morning. Win XP Pro says it will run on 300MHz, but have yu ever tried? You could sleep as long as it takesto boot, and then watch all your CPU Cycles go towards Windows itself. Win2K Server is not much better.

  3. We are a Law Office and use a Kyocera 5530 on Large-Scale Paper-To-Digital Conversion? · · Score: 1

with the Scan to PC Option Package. I can set 50+ pages on the sheet feeder and hit scan to PC and it will make a single PDF in about 5 minutes on the Server. (For note we use a Mac OS X Panther server which Kyocera does support) It is helping us go from paper to electronic quite well. The 5530 is a Copier with network abilities, and the scanner adds a secnd network interface and adress. It can also scan to e-mail. This ystem works quite nicely. We also used Fujitsu ADF 11x17 scanners I believe they were the 1100's it's been quite awhile ago. THose could do 22 ppmbut had a dedicated PC and the kofax card got quite hot, and the one we had only worked in Win 3.11. There are quite a few systems out there that are good at that, but the prices are going to be rather hefty.

  4. My Personal Opinion on Suse 9.1 Reviews? · · Score: 1

I have switched from Red Hat after 6.2, then went to debian because I wanted sleek and fast and small, but I found playing 3rd party games really bytes when you have to go and find and download stuff, so I switched to Suse at 7.2, I have been using 8.2 for quite awhile, I tried 9.0 but it screwed up with my NVidia 5200 Ultra amongst other annoyances I have found with 9.0, so I stayed with 8.2, Now with 9.1 I am testing it on an old P2 400 and it seems they fixed alot of it, I will prob install it this weekend on my main workstation and see how she runs.

First off lets look at this example, I get a file with Supposedly nacked images of Anna Kornikova (Who was underage at the time that the virus was going around, thus it is illegal to look at here naked) in my e-mail, now me beliving that it is nacked images of here I run it and get a program installed that I did not want installed (In this case a Virus). Now then how is that different than me downloading an illegal file from KaZaa or other site that contains a Trojan/Malware/Whatever you want to call it today. It isn't, both times my intentions were illegal, and both times I received something that was Misrepresented (Falls under Fraud), illegally obtains access to my computer (Falls under most computer crimes act). Last time I checked the people that wrote The Anna Kornikova Virus were considered by the US Government as Criminals, and so should these people. Don't get me wrong I don't support Pirates, but there is better ways to do this.
