  1. and therefore... on Splashpower Boasts Wireless Power · · Score: 1

we have the reason why this thing will not gain support from the device manufacturers! Building devices to be compatable with this might interfere with the devices functionality, manufacture price, and Quality-Testing.

Also, this has been menitoned, but I somehow have doubts this will work "properly" over time for devices with magnetic hard-drives or other mechanisms (what about cell-phone antennas?). Notice how they used an ipod mini with its aluminum case - wouldnt it act as shielding if you made the end thing use it as such?

Anyways, if you want a fun time, leave a metal slinky on top of this thing while its on! Or embed some coils in a bowl and you can use it to heat water slowly. I also wonder if this will (like everything else) screw up wireless networks... why didnt they list any technical information anyway?

  5. Lets breathe life into Radio instead! on RIAA Trying to Copy-Protect Radio · · Score: 3, Interesting

People who pay for digital radio arent the ones pirating material.

In fact, this is probably just gonna piss people off - I've heard of people who record digital radio, then put it onto their ipods in batches, so they can listen to new music all the time, and its portable.

The purpose of digital radio is to eliminate the need for owning so much music, and that means you dont need to pirate OR buy tons of music! The point of digital radio was to get decent quality, original material on an ongoing basis - its like Napster, only you dont have to do all the research (look for good bands) on your own - they do the work for you.

What they really need is portable digital radios! And bundle it in with another service, like cell-phones or cable TV!

  9. Its like Napster, only theres no market on MS & Game Rentals · · Score: 1

Theres no market for this kind of service. Most of the people into games enough to want to play games in quantity, are "hardcore" enough that they've already played games from a few years ago (or later versions of them); got bored of them, and have them still on the shelf somewhere. If youve played Red Alert 2, Starcraft, and C&C Generals, why would you want to play the original Command & Conquer? Or better yet - would it even run properly? It might run better on Winex than WinXP ! LOL! Anyways...

The less-hardcore gamers likely dont want to pay monthly fees for games, when they already pay monthly fees for various other services. Not to mention how pirating of older games has probably rendered this whole thing utterly useless anyway. People might balk at copying new games, but older ones just feel like fair game once they're off the shelves of stores. People often just borrow old games, and movies from friends/neighbours, and return the disc later. ANd with old games/movies, there is no "copy protection"; so they actually last for a while.

Then theres the whole preventing piracy of games while using the service - its quite likely this thing will go up, everyone will download and crack tons of games, then cancel their subscription.

Distributed computing is NOT FREE, it costs money to keep machines powered up and running! If your computer is not in use, put it in standby or shut it off, or it WILL cost you - and thats now, in the near future, power costs will go up.

If, on the other hand, they were to make distributed computing a tax deductable, charitable thing, then it would be okay.

Basically, they were covering their asses by deleting the comment, because any level of the company can read it, and will make a big deal out of nothing.
