    Well, yes.

Submit a list of prohibited coordinates to drone manufacturers today and they have a list of sensitive/secure facilities (filtering out the airports). Include prisons in that list and you have another layer of obfuscation to work through if you want to use this list for nefarious purposes.

those readings get used because they are available.

And they are not wrong for their location. NASA doesn't need to add a fudge factor to the tide gauge readings at the local harbor. On the other hand, if they are only realizing now that harbor tide gauge readings don't apply to what is going on in mid-ocean, they need their ministerial credentials revoked by the Church of Climatology. I mean, this is really basic stuff. If they don't have these effects properly accounted for in their models, then why are we listening to "the science is done" crap?

Like women who get pregnant as single mothers think through the problems this carefully.

Anecdote 1: I read a story about a high school that tried handing out dolls to boys and girls to teach them about the responsibilities of caring for a child. The program failed miserably when quite a few girls just though, "Oh how cute! A baby!" and went out and had one of their own.

Anecdote 2: In my younger days, I tried lying about having a vasectomy (I don't have one but said I did). The effect was to scare off all the women who were trying for the baby/child support. The ones who stuck around were worth telling the truth* after a while.

"As it turns out, our best historical sea level records tend to be located where past sea level rise was most likely less than the true global average."

It's most likely that tide gauges were placed at locations where the economic impact of tides (on shipping, etc.) were most significant. So, even if the bias in sea level measurements is real, factoring in this impact cancels out the higher levels. In other words, who cares? If the sea level in the middle of the ocean is rising more than near the coast, most of us live near the coast.

And it gets worse if your potential job requires any kind of security clearance or background check for a gov't job. Now that the investigative work is being subcontracted to private firms, there is no telling how crappy their quality control over that data will be. Even when the gov't was in charge of conducting its own investigations, it wasn't unheard of for a person contacted in a collateral role to have their name pop up as "involved in an ongoing investigation" with no further explanation.

This isn't the US government, so there's no telling how competent Ontario police are and how careful they are with witness data.

Because we don't want a race to the bottom

So, you'll be paying $120/month to Comcast for that shitty broadband connection, right? Bread for $5 per loaf. Your healthcare will be going up 25%. And as a customer, I'll have to pay the regulated rate for a cab ride to the airport with some surly driver in a stinky cab. Because we certainly don't want a race to the bottom.

Uber (and Lyft) are ride sharing companies. You have a car. You are going someplace. Why not pick up a rider or two to defray the cost of gas? If you wanted to be a full time cabbie in a regulated market, there are companies that will assign you a yellow Crown Vic. No, wait. If we are trying to avoid a race to the bottom, get out of the taxi cab business. Because Uber/Lyft represent the same kind of 'race to the bottom' that you so dislike. You are bypassing market controls intended to support taxi prices by controlling supply.
