I have this mental picture of lots of computers flying off the roof of a building. Or cars backing over them mysteriously. Something like a Monty Python sketch.
But that's even worse. Targeting 'some labels' implies that they are going after only the people they think they can squeeze something out of.
I have no problem with Google/YouTube declaring their site "not for commercial use". Or requiring proof of rights before uploading content. So long as they do it consistently. But TFA makes it sound like they are demanding a piece of your action to support their planned streaming service.
These artists aren't using the YouTube service to distribute content for a fee. They are simply distributing free samples to their audience. And as far as I can see, all they want is to continue to do so in the future. Their business model may not include streaming. Or they may want to negotiate that seperately.
They set the terms for you hosting videos there at no cost to you.
Not any more. If you are making money off your work, Google/YouTube wants a piece of it. And they are doing nothing more for you than the people who recorded and uploaded their baby singing.
Is this right or wrong? Good question. But be prepared to have search results for your web site pulled if Google finds out you are making money off it and not buying ads through them. Google is no longer in the search business.
NASA and the Pentagon are merely the customers. Congress doesn't give a flying F what they want.
And it is on the GOP that are striving to kill off competition
This.
More accurately to make sure that their buddies get a piece of the action. Or, 'A piece of da' action, see? Dat's a nice little rocket company ya' got dere, Musk. Shame if sometin' happened to it.'
Sure, until the first American made rocket engine goes up in flames
If ULA's engines fail, SpaceX had better run and hide. Congress/NASA/Pentagon will find a way to force ownership of SpaceX into the hands of Boeing and Lockheed. Priority #1 is to keep profits flowing to those two. Not to actually launch stuff.
A technology like this could have huge benefits for people exercising, for instance, or concerned about their health.
Not really. If I'm concerned about my health, I'm more than happy to strap a monitor on. If its my baby, a mattress pad with sensors should suffice. Or a monitor above the crib.
I can't think of one good use for a through the wall heart monitor unless its to put a heart in some cross-hairs.
The sad thing is, even in Canada many people don't realize how hurtful the "eskimo" epithet can be.
The politically correct reference in Canada seems to be 'First Nation'. That gets around upsetting one group by referring to them with the name of another.
Perhaps Netflix is having second thought about streaming. It never did have the depth of selection that DVDs by mail did. And after getting caught up in the ISPs' protection rackets, perhaps they are realizing that streaming just isn't where the money is.
I never went with the streaming option due to bad broadband back when Netflix split their services. And I thank my lucky stars. Most of the people I know who did came back, begging for the deeper DVD selection.
That National Security Letterhead really seems to be making the rounds with the scammers. That, a fake ID and a pair of cheap dark glasses and anyone thinks they can just shove their way into your business.
Personally, I welcome a new editor overlord to Slashdot.
They employ 90k people. You're thinking the loss of 7 people's email accounts is "lots"?
Sorry. My bad. I run Linux, Unix and Mac systems. I forgot all about the poor fools stuck with Windows.
Call me when I can buy a DSLR back with 100 megapixel resolution for less than an insane price. Until then, I'll stick with this.
Coincidence?

Do you have any evidence of google pulling sites that do not buy ads through Google ?
No. But then yesterday I didn't have any evidence that Google was going to strong arm artists using YouTube either.

What's an "Indie Musician"? My kids singing Happy Birthday©?
In Soviet Russia, cable TV watches you!
BÜTHÂED
Its probably the name of an Ikea end table.
The only button they have is the one labeled "overcharge".

the Commodores topped the music charts with "Three Times a Lady"
If we can get Wingo an up to date location to target Justin Bieber, we might see yet another contribution to the arts.
Have you ever used a monitor?
Yes. I have one.
Big bulky and uncomfortable.
Not really. A thin strap that velcros around the chest. The sensor part is barely wider than the strap.
without having to use a monitor, it could be nice.
But through a wall? Is that necessary?
Sure, until the first American made rocket engine goes up in flames

USB Condom
address is a UPS Box.
Did you mean USPS Box (PO Box)?
Or has UPS begun a private mailbox service?
Or do you live in an actual UPS cardboard box?
Netflix is going to have fun with this!
"But I do live in the USA! Its not my fault I was issued an IP address out of a North Korean allocation block."
I say we adopt it now. And work out all the problems with IPv8.

Are these classifications entirely distinct? Or do we see animals existing along a range from one end to another?
