Install jabberd2 with mysql backend and PSI for the client. Then ask me nicely for my roster scripts that ensure that all users see all users, grouped nicely etc..
Block 5269 to your jabber server and make sure your users do not have direct internet access and they can't use the server or the clients to talk to anyone outside your server then.
So they charge everyone with broadband 20 quid to effectively allow them to legally download everything for free.
So no one will buy music/video again - they've already paid for it.
How will the money raised by this tax get distributed to the artists ?
Of course the answer is it won't. It will shore up the record companies, who will still bleat about people stealing music and use that as the excuse for the artists to get even further shafted.
Welcome to 21st Century Government - where the government's only purpose is to take your money from you and give it to whoever currently has their ear (and wallet).
I run half a dozen jabberd servers (and one jabberd2) and use PSI on windows machines for clients.
I also generate the user rosters myself with some nifty scripts so that users always see everyone else in the companies.
I've been using ASSP for some years now - it gets better and better and, because it's a proxy, doesn't involved hacking and patching your MTA to implement.

At the moment all the big guns have there aim at each other. Their ammo is their patents. But this is a shootout to the death. The moment one shot is fired all shots will be fired and there won't be any survivors. The lawyers are rubbing their hands together and measuring up the coffins.
Who is going to be the first to pull the trigger ?
Of course it isn't. Under the thinly veiled "sharing" agreement lies the real reason Microsoft want to do this -
Novell will develop the code necessary to bring support for Office Open XML into OpenOffice, and we will contribute that support back to the OpenOffice.org organization. We will also distribute the Office Open XML plug-in in our own edition of OpenOffice. In addition, we will participate in the Open XML Translator open source project.
This gives Microsoft a means to prevent entire countries from switching from Microsoft Office to openoffice.org - after all - if their only real competition can now work with their standard "open" document format why should anyone need to switch ? And with this Microsoft retain the thing most dear to their hearts - control.
And with this control they will bring change - change that they will be first to adopt in their own office suite and the open solutions will inevitably be left behind.
So, just when standards and openness was beginning to fight back Novell has delivered a crushing blow.
Spamhaus don't imply anything - YOU do. The reasons why I - as an administrator - should choose to block email from certain places are my own and nothing to do with anyone else - nor can they be altered by any legal proceeding. The fact that I choose to use a list from somewhere is my decision - not Spamhaus'. So take me to your out-of-jurisdiction court if you want.
The whole farce of SPAM - of which most still originates from the USA - is typical and similar to the USA's attitude towards most types of pollution. If it gets in the way of business then resist it. No one wants SPAM - no one - so do something right for once.
This is nonsense. Spamhaus is a voluntary list of places you might not want to allow to deliver email to you. The people that subscribe to the list do so out of choice, they can configure their servers to block or score higher (usually) based on a listing in the Spamhaus list. Where in all of this is there place for a Judge, a court or even a whiny little Spam company ? No Judge in the world can force a delisting from Spamhaus. It's no different from me posting a list of companies that I don't like - for whatever reason - and because some people see my list and also decide they aren't going to like them either - being told I must like them. This is bollocks of the most objectionable level.
When are the courts and the politicians going to start serving the people ? Corporations are all about money and self interest - start protecting the populace not the highest bidder.
So do you pay someone else to fly a kite for you while you stay in and do nothing ? After all the time taken to fly the kite * Hourly Wage far outweighs how much you could pay the kid nextdoor to do it instead....
How can a company enforce (or even hold) a patent on something when they don't actually manufacture anything that uses the patent ? Surely this is a restrictive practice that should be outlawed ?
The real issue is that Microsoft - with Windows - made it too easy to run just about anything without the user knowing just what it is that they are running. They even had an option - set by default - to hide the file extension from the user - which was also honoured by outlook.
How/if this will change in the latest round of "new user inerface - give us your money" from Microsoft we will just have to wait and see.
(Does longcock/vista still have that side panel that eats 20% of your desktop ?)
Is there any need for Exchange or active directory now ?
As for replacing exchange - its mostly a matter of education. I've rolled out Thunderbird and Sunbird here recently and while its far from perfect its good enough for us to get along with for now - we've never used outlook or exchange here and have only missed out on all the virii.
While this is a good thing we really ought to be pushing everyone towards XMPP - its just the right way to do instant messaging (peer to peer and not all on one server).
Is there Video support in the XMPP protocol ? Or a proposed extension ?
Is that so many intelligent people have no idea how to sensibly quote email when replying....

I have 3 Zyxel 200mb powerline adapters for streaming HD content to 2 Popcorn Hours. They work great.
Only fault I've found is one packed up (quickly replaced) and occasionally (twice now) I've had to unplug the server side one to get it responding.

you mean petrol ?
No clues given as to the potential amount of power that can be stored though ?
2 Pages = twice the advertising revenue.
Is that for the Volvo Polo then ? (perhaps you meant Volkswagen - the article seems to thing so)
The most likely (and ultimately inevitable in my opinion) outcome would be Apple selling OSX boxed to run on non-apple hardware.

Just how annoying are those adwords ?
Who uses uk.com domains anyhow ? I can't recall seeing one - ever. The real question should be how did they get uk.com in the first place....
ditto
