  3. IT to blue collar on Moving Away From the IT Field? · · Score: 1

up untill about 2 years ago I was heavily pushing my career into IT, thinking that it was all I wanted to do. starting off as just PC repairs, Help Desk and stepping up to an Administration role I soon realised that it wasn't really for me. I always had the passion for IT and still do but did not enjoy the stress and pressures the job and further training always added. Not to mention having to do particular things that I did not enjoy particuarly how I only ever wanted to do was *nix based work but unfortunately it was very difficult to find positions that suited me. Since then I have swapped to a more blue collar / white collar job working for RFD Australia where I work alot with my hands doing much more physical work. Feeling much happier and more of a sence of accomplishment at the end of the day I am actually now making slightly more money now in a traineeship role than I was in my last IT job.

They've all been great people to help and is often a delight to speak too and are happy for assistance. Only one guy tried to use his poltical status to bypass the need for password verification.

This will become very difficult with the next gen XBox with the absense of a HDD, so no more storage of pirated games.

Not only that but there is speculations that the next XBox may feature a new shiny IBM PowerPC processor, (same source architechure as the Nintendo Gamecube) so that reduces the posibility of x86 software and linux development.

  11. Re:Nah! on Gates Predicts DVD Obsolete In 10 Years · · Score: 5, Interesting

So true. Its the same thing with Audio CDs. There are numerous other formats of audio media avalable such as MiniDisc, DVDA, SACD yet the same ol classic 44.1khz sampling late 70's technology still exists to be the primal choice of audio medium. This also could be the same thing with DVD till HDTV actually becomes mainstream and affordable enough for people who wish keep their two kidneys.

VHS is still alive and kicking, sales may be down against DVD but the demand for VCRs and its cassets are still profitable enough to produce.

However, with these new devices being built into laptops, wouldnt they be slightly more heavier?

Not very likely. If there is any addtional weight it would be insignificant to notice the difference from a similar model without the feature. Nothing that will break the camels back.

I do. I'm only a newcommer to the loving arms of slackware(9.1) for about 4 months now. The non-bloatness. With slackware I am in total control of my system. so what slack is manaul configuring and it doesn't have the greatest auto hardware detection. In my eyes thats a good thing. it makes you learn, and with slackware you learn fast.
