There's no reason why your system wouldn't be perfectly usable without Microsoft's media player installed. There's no reason why your car wouldn't be perfectly usable without a passenger seat either.
Oh, and you might want to look at your english too, as you used the possessive "American's" when I think you meant to use the plural "Americans" ;-)
