Damn it, you're all focusing on the wrong part of my statement. Screw the "legitamate" portion...im just saying that for a normal non-1337 user, they are not going to fill that up...
Why do we need all that space? Has anyone legitamately filled up anything past 120 GB? (and by legit i mean no mp3 storage, bittorrent, so on and so forth)
Newtonian physics is not some "mundane" thing. It is the basis for many of our sciences, so just because you're telling someone to suspend disbelief, do not undermine Newtonian Physics. I agree in suspending disbelief, but that las comment is bound to anger the science geeks (such as myself).
Since broadband came about, AOL seems to not address the new technologies. When a companiy refuses to reflect upon new technologies, they are destined to impode upon itself. With the rates AOL has, compared to NetZero (which is a joke of a company name), they just can't compete. If they only had embraced broadband to begin with, than I think AOL would be stronger than ever.
You are right, ideally software should not need updates and fixes, but with constraints given to devs by big businesses, we can't help but do that. Fixes and updates are inheritly good because they fix the sloppy stuff that VBer did five months before hand and everyone failed to check and refactor.
Coolest thing...One day I had to get my car an oil change, so I took it over to my Kia Dealership, and the coolest thing happened....they told me they had to upgrade the software on my car because it was obsolete...HOW COOL IS THAT!!! (not cool at all....the upgrade too 3 hours and crashed twice...thank you Kia for taking time away from my life)
Couldn't, in the long run, this cause a compatibility issue? If a dev uses Harmony, and opens it up, but another dev uses the Sun implementation...wouldn't the API's be slightly different, causing a headache? Or will the API's be exactly the same (For further review, try running a mono c# app in.net...unless you use the common APIs between the two, there is no compatibility.)
I personally think it's a bad idea...Apache, watch out for the SUN!
Aren't they using the right too for the right job? So what if the language itself is closed source. Are we going to hosetly have end users care about the java source code?
Sir, are you a developer? If not, why do you care so much about the source code? Can you read it and fully understand what is written? What dictates that Open Source == Good? is it automatic? Is there an open source solution for you that I might have as an alternative?
How many actual slashdotter are actual devs? Who write code out there? And I dont mean PHP or HTML, I mean real man's code, like C++ and Java. OUt of all the slashdotters who are not true developers, why do you care so much about how open a program is if you cant friggin read the code to understand what it does!!!!
I agree with the writer of this post. We shouldn't force people to use open source. When we do things like this, it reminds me of a Mormon knocking at my door telling me that their religion is better than mine.
I use open source software side by side with commercial software. I use firefox as my browser and outlook as my email client. It all comes down to whats best to fit your certain needs. If ease of use is priority and cost is not a huge factor, who are we to critisize those who buy Microsoft products.
~~If Linux was the main OS in this world, controling as much as Windows does, then you all would be advocating Microsofts windows.
All this for a book review? Wow....I wonder how long the blurb would be for something useful then...None the less, it is very impressive....wow, I mean, oh my god...still in shock...
and rightfully so....i never liked linux as a desktop os, and never intend to use it as a server os.....so why should i like it if i really hate linux!!!!

Now if only all other big corporations will follow its lead...
Why do we need all that space? Has anyone legitamately filled up anything past 120 GB? (and by legit i mean no mp3 storage, bittorrent, so on and so forth)
BeOS...hands down the coolest dead OS ever!
that congress needs to vote on an act that forces the DHS to buy American. Wouldn't one think that it should do it without the need of congress???
such mundane things as Newtonian physics

Now they're gonna find my stash of KaZaa Pr0n!!!!
Now my 16 yr old son can get booze with out me even knowing about it! WOOT! Go Go Supreme Court! Angry Parent

What OS is the Prius Running? (Remind me never to use it for mission critical operations)

Honestly, does the end user really care about what server they need to run?
You, sir, have gone off the deep end if you can honestly say that you know what every microsoft user is thinking.
