"Because free internet occupying former channels 51 to 69 were to be paid by the *corporations* not the government. Just like free radio and free tv today."
But "free" radio and tv are not free, they are supported by ad revenue. There is little if any opportunity for the "free" internet provider to recoup the costs of providing the "free" internet service, it would essentially be a tax imposed on the provider by the government. Besides, 768k service will soon be of negligible value beyond simple text, IM or email, and the people the government thinks they're going to serve by offering this "service" will again be relegated to inferior connection speeds.
Something tells me that folks in the market to buy BOTH a Macbook Pro AND a 30" display are not going to bitch, moan, and stomp their feet when forced to buy a $100 adapter.
If a terrorist org had a 1MT nuke, they'd probably have a better chance of killing 20m people using the emp option. Positioned properly, say, over Pittsburgh, the emp would certainly take out nearly everything electronic from Indiana to the Atlantic that isn't hardened. A lot of the big power grid hardware is made overseas and/or requires a long manufacturing lead time. If they attacked in November, you'd have a lot more than 20m either freezing or starving to death (or both) within a month or two. A 1MT nuke detonated in NY City? No way you'd see 20m dead.
The area affected by a 250mi high 1+ MT EMP burst isn't necessarily circular or evenly represented on a map, certain points on the compass are affected more due to the curvature of the earths magnetic field. The reason why Hawaii did not experience significant issues is probably due to the fact that Johnston Atoll is South and West of Hawaii. If Johnston were North of Hawaii things would probably have been much different.
My feeling is that we should find a way to harden our core electrical infrastructure against EMP, but we should implement the updates over the normal course of updating infrastructure, and only if its not a $200b endeavor. It'd be different if the ONLY way we'd be vulnerable was the result of a bad actor launching a high alt nuke, but that's not the case. The sun can cause largescale EMP damage, and at the local level, entire cities or regions could easily lose power for extended periods due to a conventional, non-nuclear emp weapon being used against critical electrical infrastructure.
Did you even read that stupid article? Your "evidence" is a rumor printed in the Cuban state run news propped up by conspiracy theories after Jenna Bush visited Paraguay while working on behalf of poor children for the UN. Do you really think that Bush would send a 20-something Jenna Bush to negotiate a 100,000 acre land purchase? You're a loon with a serious case of BDS.
ANWR: 10 billion barrels Outer Continental Shelf: 18 billion barrels (estimated; the actual total is undoubtedly much higher, since exploration has been banned) Oil shale: 1 trillion barrels
That's quite a bit.
I read your post, found it idiotic, saw it was posted by "spun", then it made sense. You're the same turd who who placed blame for the tiger attack incident at the San Francisco Zoo earlier this year on the fact that the zoo was privately owned. Because, you know, private businesses are always out trying to devise ways to kill the people who give them money.
"Hell I would not tell my own wife or employer much less the public."
You wouldn't tell your own wife about your medical history? Not only is that whack on the face of it, what happens if you're overseas on vacation and require medical assist, the med professionals don't have access to your records, and give you improper meds, or something similar? Seems foolish to risk that kind of thing just to hide the fact that your nuts didn't descend until a year before you met her...
B. Should have bought a pickup? What happens if you have 4 kids and live at the end of an unpaved road in an area that is covered in snow and ice for 4 months out of the year? Put the kids in the truck bed?
C. Hummer H2 and H3 are built on existing GM truck/suv chassis, and use existing GM engines. The only difference between buying a Hummer H2 and a Chevy Tahoe are the aesthetics and the name tag, but that doesn't stop people like you from thinking that Hummers destroy the earth more quickly than other vehicles.
You're right on, a bluetooth headset emits far less radiation than a cell phone, especially if you are approaching the outer edge of the cell tower's coverage area, where the cell phone will ramp up its rx/tx power to the max.
What's more interesting is the pervasiveness of Macs in the pics of the various companies, I think there's only one or two profiled orgs where Macs cannot be seen.
I think he's using a roundabout method to remind us that the military isn't the only massive recipient of federal funding, nor even the biggest. I'd only add that military expenditures are clearly enumerated in the constitution, whereas forcing the citizenry to "invest" in that ponzi scheme we call Social Security clearly is not.
Right on, Rooster. Moreover, the author of TFA wrings his hands over 528m in estimated lost revenue by Washington State w/ the Nevada tatctic, but conveniently ignores the fact that 528m over that span is a paltry sum compared to what MS actually pays in taxes to the state of Washington overall. How many billions of dollars in tax revenue would the govt of Washington never have realized had Microsoft decided to HQ somewhere else? How many people has MS moved into Washington state from all points? All of those folks pay taxes to the state of Washington, too, and they would have paid taxes elsewhere were it not for MS.
This is an example of the tragedy of privatization.
How so? The fence is the same height today it was when it was a public zoo. The zoo was public when the fence was built. Seems a better case can be made that public zoos don't know how to design safe tiger enclosures.
An early clue that someone may be a sociopath is mistreatment of animals. It points to a lack of empathy. How you treat a pet is a good indication of how you are likely to treat your brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter or a stranger in the street.
I treat animals exceedingly humanely, than you very much. I just don't think they deserve the same treatment as my daughter, nor would I grieve nearly as much were an animal to be maimed or killed as I would if such were to happen to my child. If you would, then you are indeed the whackjob.
I suspect you are one of these people who equates a pet with a brother, sister, mother, father, son or daughter. If so, you're an imbecile of the highest order.

I hear ya. I hate that term.

For people with Fossett's means, having a grand in your wallet is pretty common.
"So what am I supposed to do about that?"
Use one of these?

A. Who said anything about a Hummer?

You don't live in rural Wisconsin, you insensitive clod!
"Excessive alcohol and everyone thinking tobacco was healthy certainly didn't help anything."
What, What!?

Just set the price at 500 million dollars if you don't want anyone to have it. And if you get a buyer, well, who would you be to complain?
Spending billions more on another cold war while the world literally burns under our feet.
Your hyperbole burns my eyes!

No.
