Easier way to record than iTunes->CD->MP3. Line-Out->Line-In, or some program like gold wave that will let you record what the computer speakers are playing (no external wire required, have used this to record streaming audio webcasts).
Short answere is, if you can hear it, you can record it. No matter what OS and hardware you are using.
Umm... Actualy, judging by the events that appeared to cause the lockups, it was the third-party Nikon Camera and Game that probably caused the problems.
FTA: Later in the 90-minute presentation, a product manager demonstrated the ostensible user-friendliness of a video game expected to hit retail stores in April, Forza Motor Sport. But instead of configuring a custom-designed race car, the computer monitor displayed the dreaded "blue screen of death" and warned, "out of system memory."
I think I heard about a kid in germany getting arrested for plugging his phone into an outlet at a train station. He used about 0.01 cents (0.0001 dollars) of electricity.
Agreeing with you and look at AT&T. They had to charge massive amounts for longdistance because the local price was regulated to way below cost. If they had been able to charge the actual cost for local phone service, long distance would have been much cheaper. Also, California had the crunch cause thhe power corps couldn't charge the cost of power either, forcing them to operate at a loss leading to the rolling blackouts.
When the power goes out my POTS line will still work and you fibre phone will be DEAD. The quality of service for POTS lines is much higher than that of fibre and the upkeep is higher as well. Oh, and don't forget that they supply service to places where it is not profitable to do so (raising other peoples costs) such as towns of less than 100 people that are 100 miles from the nearest exchange with no one in between. Comparing a dense population to giving everyone phone access is not good math. Compare the price of phone service to giving EVERYONE IN THE STATE fibre from scratch and I will start to pay attention.
I'll agree that guns are made to kill. But they can be used for protection. For example. A town in Pensylvania has a law that the head of every household must own a gun. They have the lowest crime rate in the state. Washington DC has a handgun ban and has a murder rate 5 times higher than Alexandria, VA right across the river which has none. If you want another example of how stupid outlawing guns is, take a look at England and how little, if any, there handgun ban has done.
Also tell me how a woman raped and strangled with her own pantyhose is morally superior to a dead rapist. There are three examples in Maryland in the past year where women were turned down for a handgun permit and were later killed. And they were turned down for no reason at all. Literally. The law states that the people who issue the liscenses don't need a reason to deny a handgun liscence.
In the name of stopping terrorism the government is just trying to line its pockets even more.
sounds to me like thay are trying to stop tax fraud with that part instead. along with money laundering which, surprise surprise, is used by organized crime and terrorist groups among other less insidious groups.
I agree with him about getting a good internship. I got one in summer 2003 that payed $6/hour. Not many in the area applied for it due to the low pay. summer 2004 and 6 weeks before graduation I am worrying about finding a job. I figure I'd call them up and see if I could get the internship again. Turns out they called me before I could call them. It turned into a full time permanent job I am enjoying now. As to what I do? I work at PBS, make good pay and get to play with 5,6 and 7 figure TiVos. (AKA Broadcast Servers).
First prove that global warming exists. Read "State of Fear" By michael chriton for more details (not sure i spelled name right, same guy that wrote jurrasic park). Temps may have gone up in the last 50 years, but they were going down before that. Since temps started being recorded, temps have gone down or stayed the same in many areas. (Not saying some haven't gotten warmer) And for those that have gotten warmer, they are usually in cities where more heat is being produced. Places like antartica have gotten colder on average.
Before believing that Global Warming is not a bad thing (which if it is happening, I agree that it is not necessarily a bad thing) try to make sure that it is actually happening.
One company (Infinum) asked the courts to prevent a person
Infinum sued HardOCP. HardOCP is a company not an individual. Therefore your sentence should read: "One company (Infinum) asked the courts to prevent another company (and to drain 20 mil from it in the process) from stating embarassing facts about it's executives."
Interestingly enough, the program that printed the checks at the place where my dad worked printed 19100 for the year on the checks. However, the program also allows for manual entry of the check date. So all the did was enter the correct year and re-run the checks. No problem, and this was a program that suffered from the bug.
However if we become closer and more intergrated into machines with enhancements it could very well be that we give up on privacy for the benefits of group mind (What one knows all know).
Don't forget that some people buy the real version for the extras. Such as the art in the booklets and some other things that come with it. (I buy Anime, and they sometimes come with things like cards and pictures and stuff). Not much that is high cost but all combined it makes it worth the money. (and its still cheaper than most mainstream movies) I suspect, however, that the licensing (?) fees to the actors, stage hands and so on may keep the cost higher than $5. However, they should still be able to make more money selling the DVDs at the VHS cost since DVDs cost less to make.
I'm cerious on how (mabey I don't understand how they are made from the get-go) this is going to stop large scale counterfitting, those with access to machines that make perfect dupilcate copies, bit by bit, groove by groove, notch by notch.
It won't. There is nothing you can do to stop a copy like that unless they figure out how to put data on the disk in an area that can't be burned to (say like the disks serial number or information type on a CDR/RW or DVDR/RW). Even then, the proffesional piraters will probably still figure out a way since they use the EXACT SAME EQUIPMENT that hollywood uses to make their own disks.
AH, now I think I know what you mean "if the nuclear reactor/engine were to explode?" It is possible to build ones that can not go critical or supercritical (aka cause a nuclear explosion). In the case of reactors, by building pebble bed reactors you eliminate the possibility of a nuclear explosion. In the case of engines, since they do not all require a reactor in the traditional sense. They require material to get heated but do not require the uranium/plutonium to be dense enough or of the right type to explode. Only two types of material are used to cause nuclear explosions. U235 and Pu239 (i think these are the only two and are the right ones). We don't have to use either of them in a reactor. One such example of a nuclear engine is using the radioactive material (say, P244 or U238, much much harder to make go critical if it is at all possible) to heat a propelant such as hydrogen. And sending the propelant out the nozel. This does not require either of the weapons grade uranium or plutonium and will not cause a nuclear explosion.
Hydrogen does not become radioactive easily and as such the propellant will not cause radioactive waste or pollution.
As for regular explosions, it is possible to build the casing such that in the event of a regular explosion the material would still be contained. And has been accomplished before. In either case, it is possible to build a nuclear powered rocket that can not cause a nuclear explosion or spew radioativity across the country side if a regular explosion occured.
I'm not being deliberately obtuse, its just I'm not always able to understand what people mean.
I don't think malfunctions in space are the issue here, it's malfunctions during launch and ascent that are the issue.
Yes, I know. The Explosion took place on the launch pad or right after. The rocket never made it to orbit. And still no radioactive material was lost/released.

Hes not calling them un-american yet. Just communist. There is a difference in wording here.
Every OS has bugs and exploits. Even Linux and OSX and BSD. Its just that MS Windows has more that are easily exploitable.
I thought the biggest hog was the processor? My laptop eats ~80 watts (1.1ghz celeron) and I am pretty sure at least 50% consumption is the processor.
I think I heard about a kid in germany getting arrested for plugging his phone into an outlet at a train station. He used about 0.01 cents (0.0001 dollars) of electricity.
Sugestion, bring a power strip with you. This way, if there are no free outlets, you can "make" one.

without being sarcastic, is there any legal reason for moneylaundering as opposed to the examples you just gave which have many legal uses?
I'll agree that guns are made to kill. But they can be used for protection. For example. A town in Pensylvania has a law that the head of every household must own a gun. all people (previously, only white people had rights).
Wrong. Anyone who was not a slave had rights. Freed slaves had rights. Non-whites that weren't slaves had rights.
It could be 3300x1800, if you like B&W monitors.

Exactly what I was thinking of when I wrote that (been to that site before). P.S. Nice Poul Anderson reference in your ID.

In other news, the RIAA has filed a lawsuit against Samsung for encouraging pirating of music on mobile phones. Details to follow...
