    true, but you can rename the file exploit.wmf to exploit.jpg. Firefox will try to display the jpg and will pass the picture to the library, which will realize that it is incorrectly named and it will render it as wmf, infecting your system. This bug affects all browsers, whether they can display wmf's or not!

    Unless someone gets Apple to open up Fairplay to potential licensees, or to include WMA playback on the iPod. I don't see either happening without a court case though.

    I don't see either happening with a court case either. Especially WMA playback on the iPod, as that has its technical difficulties as well.

    When v is far less than c, it is roughly the same as KE = 0.5*mv^2

    sadly, cars are usually far slower than c. Otherwise I doubt it would matter how the car is built, you're toast anyway!

    the image file can also be named as .gif or .jpg (even if it isn't). Then (in any browser that displays the images) it will be opened and therefore you will be infected ... without knowing it and without clicking on anything!

    you can regularily scan yourself with nmap, to see if you have any unwanted open ports (for example 631 for cups). cups is open to the internet with most distros.

This has to be a reference to the Mars Climate Orbiter from wikipedia: Spate of failures Following the success of Global Surveyor and Pathfinder, another spate of failures occurred in 1998 and 1999, with the Japanese Nozomi orbiter and NASA's Mars Climate Orbiter, Mars Polar Lander, and Deep Space 2 penetrators all suffering various fatal errors. Mars Climate Orbiter is infamous for project engineers mixing up the usage of imperial units with metric units, causing the orbiter to burn up while entering Mars' atmosphere.

    there are also a lot of other free, but non-wiki enceclopedias online, for example britannica. But they usually don't have as much content!

    that's the cool thing about the test ... you can listen and make up your own mind. They have one track (with several small fragments of different songs) avalable in several different formats.

    no, bitrate in not equal to quality. iTMS has the far superior AAC, while Microsoft uses WMA wich comes last (or close) in most tests (except the ones Microsoft pays for ;))

    why doesn't just allow CVS (like winex) and charge for the binaries? That way hardly anyone could compile it and it wouldn't violate the GPL. I'm not saying I'm in favour of this, but I'm fairly certain it would be legal

    wouldn't $ echo -n "first post" | md5sum d008960fa6b395dca1c8362165bb31be make more sense? -n would not print the trailing new line. OK, wrong in this case, but normally that's how you do it! The "correct" sum would then be 6436a55a08760c5b94dbed4476f83fcd

    no ... it also works fine with xine or gmplayer in Linux. An open format would of course be better, though.
