This just goes to show what technology and services can be offered in the presence of competition, which would not have been provided with the absence of competition. Now, we can only imagine where the world would be if Microsoft had competition in the OS market.

If only Slashdot got paid for every hit that was referred by the 'sometimes-over-abundant-use-of-links' articles, Slashdot would be richer than Bill Gates. Ok, maybe not . . .
True, but these enhancements might be useful for people working as Intelligence Officers, Firefighters, etc. Although it might sound like science fiction, but in the future, criminals are going to be bio-enhanced, and the regular cop won't be able to catch these criminals unless they have implant technologies themselves.

Reminds me of the scene where Tom Cruise went to get his eyes replaced in the Minority Report. Nevertheless, the question that "will [something] be as good as [something else] someday?" is somewhat pointless, because we all know that as technology advances, [something] will ALWAYS be as good as [the original human organ] in the future. Unless we blow ourselves up, I am certain that we will have eye implants that gives humans super-vision, as well as being able to see-through walls, amongst other goodies. The better quesion is, how long will it take for technology to get there.
Will artificial eyes and retinal replacements someday be as good as good human eyes?

The parent is right. Microsoft appends to the standard, so they become "the standard". For example, the DYNSRC doesn't work with Mozilla, it just works with IE. So people start thinking that because tags doesn't work on other browsers, IE is "the standard".
Internet Explorer is the standard for all web protocols, so why change it?
There are numerous reasons why we should change it. First of all, since Microsoft has an iron-grip in the browser market, they do not feel that it is necessary to innovate. Therefore, consumers are stuck with the same old browser iterations. Along with the lack of innovations, bugs and security flaws are also gone unfixed. Since Microsoft has the market with no choice for the consumer because it is "the standard", they know that the average Joe are not likely to switch to alternatives, so Microsoft don't feel a need to put any money and effort into fixing problems. These are the main reasons why we need to change it. It is for the good of technology and mankind.
I am a Computer Engineer and I can't type. Although my style of typing is probably inefficient, I learned to type really quickly through years of use. However, I truly wish I was given a course on how to type efficiently. I think it is a really important skill to develope.
Actually, Sony, along with many electronics company from Japan, formed a Linux collaboration to do just that, fight against Microsoft. Here.
Sony should be applauded on their move, as they are trying to promote Open Source, and more importantly, Linux, as Microsoft is continually trying to take-over all markets they tread into. People should be buying PS2 and PS3 to help Sony in this fight, so we can all have a brighter future without Microsoft's strong-arm business practices and Microsoft's lack of technological innovations.
Bro, sounds like you are not following the evolution of amateur videos very closely. You can get any girl to perform amateur videos with just $20! Don't believe me? Go watch some of those new trendy reality pr0n videos! You can get any girl to do one of those videos with $20 nowadays, you should ask some ladies at your local bus stop next time. Remember to record the whole encounter with a new Digital Camera, and remember to post the results of your broken nose . . . I mean, experiment for us to see!
If I am ever sued by Microsoft for infringing upon their name, I would ask Microsoft to buy me a PS2, Gamecube, various Linux distributions, Firefox, etc as settlement.
As much as I promote someone using their own time to create an accessible website for others, I can see why Odeon might want to order the website to be taken down. If you read the emial reply to the creator of the accessible website, Odeon raised a very valid point. As stated in the email by Odeon, "a number of Odeon customers who have used your website have become frustrated when they have found that they could not book films." Sure, some of us might not use such features, or that for us Slashdot readers, it might not be difficult to find ways of getting around what is not available on the Mr. Somerville's site. But the bottom line is that a large majority of the users will get confused. One must take into consideration that Regular Joe doesn't know what the differences are between the two sites, and that they are easily confused by minor things.
Not until MS finds a way to tie XBox 2 to Windows will they be able to "take" Sony. Maybe if they can force users to activate Windows via the XBox?;-)
I don't doubt something like that will happen in the future. Expect some smart marketing gimmick from Microsoft on why it is in everyone's best interest to activate Windows via the XBox.
If the doll resembles a hot super model, then it might warrant the $1700 price tag. I better go patent this idea before anyone steals it. Although, having a hot super model robot inflating to a larger size might not be too appealing. And it might also have the side effect of making two undesirable humps on a men's dress shirt. Man, and I thought I was going to be a millionaire.
"Why hello there, pretty girl! I have a level 65 Wizard on Everquest and he can cast Shield of Maelin that is a powerful HP, AC & MR Buff. Also, also, he has this single target fire-based DD called Strike of Solusek that does 3000 damage!!! OMG!!! Oh yeah!!! check out this cool Tron costume that I made! Doesn't my super-tight costume turn you on? OMG IM SO HAWT!!! Want to go out with me???"
"Why hello there, pretty girl. I have a level 60 Paladin on Everquest and he has a sword that does triple damage to Goblins and Orcs!!! OMG!!! And during my spare time, I made this really cool Tron Costume!!! Want to go out with me???"

Personally, I hate Microsoft more than the Patent system.

Various sources point to the PS3 being in showable form before March here.
Through all that spam, I wonder if prattboy will notice if I asked him for a Gmail invite.

I would attempt the paper craft -- if only I had precious little cute barbie dolls to go along with my cute arcade.
1) Patent the idea of using spare GPU cycles to do non-graphic related computational work. 2) ????? 3) Licensing the idea to ATi and nVidia 4) Profit!
Actually, SCO has a whole team of Lionel Hutz lawyers working there.
The two men were probably trying some kama sutra positions with the aid of the gyroscope.

Replace "play dopewars" with "watch porn", then I think you have described the targetted market.
