Funny you should point that out because the same people who insist that the overrepresentation of men in tech is due to sexism are the same people who will, in the same breath, insist that the overrepresentation of asians in tech is because asians are "just genetically smarter".
Actually is a response to a system that in general isn't merit based
Liberals like to keep saying that, but it only takes a few seconds of reflection to see that it isn't true. The leftist, pro-affirmative-action-quota position is that there are some hiring managers out there who are frothing-at-the-mouth bigots who would say, "I don't care what you can do or what you know or how badly I need your particular skill set, I'll never hire a woman to do this job!" The liberal narrative is that there are privileged white men who would rather see a job go unfilled than give one to a woman, missing an untapped reservoir of talent, simultaneously shooting their employer in the foot by giving these jobs to unqualified men rather than the hordes of better-qualified women who they're rejecting. The affirmative action response is to force them, through quotas, to hire people that they have worked so hard to keep out... rather than just removing these people in the first place. Why? Because, when pressed, liberals can never seem to find these people. They can never point to the people who see a resume from a woman who graduated with a 4.0 from MIT, trash it, and give the job to a high-school dropout just because he's a man. When pressed on why they can never seem to find these prejudiced managers, they almost immediately backpedal and move the goalposts - they go from "affirmative action is a response to a system that isn't merit based" to, "well, unrepresented groups aren't encouraged enough early in life, so they don't pursue the merit part of the merit."
I don't know what the whole Wells Fargo/AHS scam is, and $43/month sounds low for a home warranty, but I do have AHS (about $70/month) and they've replaced my A/C, pool equipment, and a refrigerator. So there may well be a scam going on, but I'm not sure it's fair to brand AHS a "scam factory" outright.
spouted by people that are worried they'll lose their jobs to someone ACTUALLY qualified
It’s funny (but not really in a haha way, just in a “par for the course, I guess” way) how leftists like to repeat this whenever people oppose biased hiring, suggesting that qualified minorities are being turned away every day by a prejudiced elite while every diversity program explicitly insists that qualifications must be relaxed in order to achieve diversity because otherwise you’d never achieve it. It’s the classic “motte-and-bailey” tactic, that’s worked for the SJWs very well for the past decade.
in addition to which, as usual, the overrepresentation of men relative to their population proportion (about 2 to 1) is evidence of rampant sexism, as there can be no other possible explanation because, after all, a woman can do anything a man can do, but better. HOWEVER, the overrepresentation of asians relative to THEIR population proportion (at least 5 to 1) is just evidence that asians are smarter than everybody else, as there can be no other possible explanation. (And to be clear, I don’t have a problem with asians dominating tech. I DO have a problem with somebody insisting that men being somewhat overrepresented means I’m a filthy sexist).
We just saw that self-driving cars can be fooled by putting a strip of duct tape on a stop sign. I'm not sure how realistically accurate this is going to end up being.
That's what I thought when this came out - by firing him, Google's leadership has exposed themselves as somewhere between weak and completely impotent. They martyred him when martyring him was the worst possible thing they could do, and he seems to be pulling the strings and calling the shots here. It will be interesting to see if he has some carefully orchestrated plan going on, and I really hope he does.
Unfortunately, he's not doing the smart thing here, which would be to stay the ever-loving-hell away from the media until the suit was complete. I, too, hope he brings those vindictive fuckers down, but he doesn't seem to be managing this the right way to make that happen.
I'm actually pretty disappointed that this didn't trigger an avalanche of support from within Google. I'd like to think that if I worked there, I'd type up my own suicide note in support of him and circulate that internally.
"The fact that somebody disagrees with me even after I already said it hurt my feelings when they disagree with me" is proof that she's right?
In a way, I can't really say I blame you - this approach has been very successful for the left for at least 50 years now. I really feel like this incident is somehow different, though - that the tide is shifting and you're losing the tight grip you've had over western society for at least the entirety of my lifetime, if not longer.
Not just Gnome. Feminists have had the microphone now for nearly 50 years (longer than I've been alive), and almost everybody has been bending over backwards to jump at the snap of their fingers, yet we still find men doing some things that fewer women do and women doing some things that fewer men do. The solution, then, is even more feminism?
I can't help but notice that absolutely nobody is saying that what he said isn't true - only that they don't like the way it made them feel.
with Asian

He's actually trying to score cheap brownie points (and Slashdot points which, as you can see, worked) by pandering.

go somewhere more tolerant
Well, that part's easy - there is no such place.

Curious when they'll start looking for religious diversity.

buy a new private island
Ha. I hope he take his settlement money and builds a new, better, unbiased search engine. I'll work for him.
Your wife should get her money back.

Well, it depends on which truth you're telling, see... Some truths are more acceptable than others.

Or, even if you're not a "dick who says cunty things", but just somebody presenting facts, backed up by statistics, that hurt somebody's feelings.

You should take a look at Scott Alexander's analysis: http://slatestarcodex.com/2017... He says it better than I think any of us could.
Yep, figured this asshole would show up to this conversation...
Women should not be discouraged from studying CS, Engineering, Math any science
On the contrary. They're encouraged with much more passion than any man ever has been. And they're still not very interested.
But there's only one group of people that it's ok to fire because you hate them for existing. Only one.
So - "it doesn't happen to me, therefore it doesn't happen?"

Stop burning strawmen.
He's an SJW. That's all they have.
