  1. Reason for buying an NES on Zelda Extravaganza · · Score: 3, Informative

The original Zelda was the reason for my recent purchase of an NES. I had to search eBay for about a week to be able to snag one. I have it now and about 20 or so other classic games, and I have to say that I probably play my NES more than my PS2. And for good reason.
While the PS2 is technologically and graphicly superior, IMHO there is just no comparison to the quality of the games as they were once made. Developers are using more and more graphics and cool cut scenes to drive a game rather than, *gasp* story line or plot development. And don't forget solid game play. I have spent countless hours trying to defeat mario 3, and I still come back for more.
    Why? It's just darn fun!

  3. Step in the right direction on IEEE Approves 802.11i · · Score: 1

What needs to be understood here is that this is a step in the right direction. It will be some time till it is mainstream(face it, everyone has b/g, and it costs money to upgrade), and while it is MORE secure, it's made by a human.
There will be another one who can bypass it. That's just how things work. If someone wants it bad enough, they'll get it.

  4. They keep me in business on The Impact of Technophobes · · Score: 1

I've found in my 8 or so years of computer use that there will always be problems. No matter what. Everyone has them too. I have been in tech support for roughly 3 years and have found that most end users don't know how to plug in their own equipment, let alone use it properly. But then again, can you expect them to read the manual? It has all those big, foreign looking words and acronyms like USB, DDR, SDRAM and motherboard. Does a computers memory actually remember things anyway? Will I have to keep a fire extinguisher next to my computer if I get a Firewire drive?

What you need to realize is that these people are what drive innovations and pay my salary. They have money, and if it helps them get their computer to work in a way that they can use it, they will spend lots of money on it, whether it be a new component they don't know how to set up, or a couple hours of my time. If it solves their problem, they'll do it.

  8. Not goin anywhere fast.... on Nintendo Claims No.2 Spot, PS2 Sales Down Year-On-Year · · Score: 1

First, I would like to point out that Nintendo isn't goin anywhere fast. As much as the Gamecube has been a disappointment to them in the console area, they own the handheld market. Nintendo as a company will not go belly-up any time soon.

Second, Nintendo has shown, through last years sales strategy, that they will not go quietly into the night. Even if they do give up in the console department(which I doubt they will) they will take as much of the market share as they can. They have proven that they can take a supposedly doomed console like the GC, and make a profit on it, even if it is less than they had hoped or assumed from other companies sales(Sony, Microsoft). And with the sales that Nintendo is showing, they will continue to get more developers writing games for the GC. Developers aren't stupid, they go where the money is.

Faster processors are all very well and good, but what is the point of going to the 64 bit processor if there aren't any OS's or applications that can take advantage of it? We get really cool, expensive equivilents to what we already have. Maybe AMD and Intel should start a push in the app department at Microsuck, otherwise I'm content to hold onto my Athlon 2Ghz. I am all for a product that will help me backup my games. I have a couple that I can't replace if I wanted to(they're close to 6 years old and unavailable anymore). Regardless, those who will use this or any other product for pirating games will find another way if this one is not made available. You have to figure that if they really want to steal it, they'll find a way.
