Never gonna happen. Every senator wants to get some pork barrel added to a different bill, and as long as that incentive is there, nothing's gonna change.
Quite honestly, in my experience, 80% of the parents will go out and buy the game for them, and the other 20% wouldn't want to play the game in the first place.
Star Trek was a good franchise, but the powers that be decided to put too many sequels on, without worrying about plot and character development.
Insert comment about Wesley Crusher here.
Who owns a TiVo? Does the user own it, or lease it from the company? Because if TiVo maintains ownership of the box, they can do damn near anything they please with it.
Because the government, private corporations, etc. have proven that they can't be trusted with your data. Look at universities who have lost data to theft. If a major university can have data stolen, it can be stolen from anywhere.
Besides, most people who would try and get this information wouldn't need the passport itself, just the data on it. A name, date of birth, and photo can often be enough to gain more information, sometimes enough to commit fraud with.
Why would we honestly expect any different? Anyone who actually read into the situation expected VeriSign to get the contract, and it looks as if that's what's going to happen now.
I live in a city of about 500,000 in Michigan. Yet, my IP address corresponds to a city of about 77,000 FORTY MILES SOUTH of my house. Google does it right.

Funny, I wrote similar papers about Duke Nukem Forever. No one wants to believe...
Who needs Pepto Bismol?
No way. They wouldn't take the phaser out of the box.

Has the Bush administration proven that they really care about the rights of citizens, particularly on the Internet?
This might be irrelevant, but I think MS may be worried about people buying a $36 full version, and shipping it to the U.S. to undercut MS' profits.

It's about other things. For example, as the article says, in 2003 when VeriSign directed 404 errors to their own search engine.

Even when the servers go back on, they'll be slashdotted.
May I be the first to congratulate our executable overlords!

But doesn't this seem like the beginning of a bad Arnold Schwarzenegger movie?
"GET OUT! ZE ROBOTS ARE COMING!"
