One of the major themes of many universitys' coursework in tech related majors is group work. They are starting to emphasize soft skills so much that hard skills or knowledge for that matter are lost.
Much worse, groupwork in education encourages only 1 to 2 members of a 5 person team to actually complete the assigned tasks. Because of this, even though math and science are being taught, 50% of the team can slide by without doing anything.
How many people do you know said they were part of some major project but couldn't write or even explain a single line of code?
just my 2 cents anyway
I love the idea of more Linux in my life, but the hardware seems a little less than stellar compared to something like an Ipaq for the same money. I believe you can get an Ipaq with a 400mhz Intel X-scale processor for 400 dollars also.
Unless this Motorola has some sort of different rating...
Well, sitting here with my newly aquired ipod and my g4 that will be replaced with a powerbook after graduation... I have to wonder...
I never would touch an Apple product till 8 months ago. At least thats just one converts story.
Well, considering that the amount of wattage processors now have to disipate to obtain higher clockspeeds, we either have to use higher rpm fans that will only increase in noise or we have to go water cooling.
And I am pretty sure that most aren't willing to make that jump, not too mention you still need some fans producing noticeable noise.
Just seems to me that more and more of modern day warfare will take place in network/computer form. Not to say that traditional warfare will be done away with, that would be ridiculous.
I don't know about the rest of you, but the war driving experience only provided about.5 hours of entertainment. After that I just wanted to go out and drink.
Voyager 1 took a very similiar image as it was leaving the solar system in 1990. Carl Sagan, one of the key contributors to the project, used it for inspiration to title his book Pale Blue Dot.
I agree with the humbling factor, just like I did then. But I feel that I am more a part of something larger and more grand, makes me happy.
No, no, no....
What I need is a combination cell phone, pda, music player, swiss army knife, flash drive, bluetooth, wifi, digi camera, flash light, and salad shooter device.
Only then would I truly be a tool.
Well, make one show of good faith, then stop so that the costs aren't passed onto the law-abiding customers. Anybody who seriously wants to counterfeit will just bypass the silly "feature"
I know all of the rhetoric, like this is "a step in the right direction" but I can't say that I am all that excited.
I can't use this service as I live off-campus, don't use XP or 2k and I am not particulary fond of WMA. Not that I am really angry about it (unless my activity fees increase), but I am just not all that excited either.
In addition, from my on campus friends, most of them said that it was a lacking in user interface but was still manageable. The biggest gripe was that a lot of artists/songs (popular ones) are no where to be found.
Question: "Where is your database homework?"
Euphimism for anti-trust maneuver
Well, if anyone wants a chuckle, on the cnn web site this is written up as a real article. CNN Article
It just seems that the April fools joke articles of the past were far funnier. Guess it is hard to do every year and keep it funny.

As much as I am glad to see positive news about Open Source, I have to wonder why this was worthy of news...
