I'm somewhat amazed that nobody sees the apparent transparency here by the SCO (Sue Corporations Optimistically) legal team.
I had expected them to sue some poor little corporation into non-existence, and then trumpet their 'success'. But they went after larger corporations with (theoretically) bigger legal guns.
The goal with Autozone is to get a cheapo settlement from someone with only licensing fees at stake, then use that in their PR machine. The Damiler goal is something else- get embedded software licensing fees ($699 per car, bitte), and then using that on everyone (Yo NASA- fork over for each of those rovers !).
I see Autozone folding. I see Damiler fighting them like IBM will.
Of course, you could add wheels to the huge rackmount system, and write it off (like the "Free Hummer" ads say). It would have to weigh more than 3 tons (US) e-Trucker.com article
My grandfather came down with the 1918 flu with his entire Army unit just before they shipped out to France. 2/3 of the unit died. These were young men at the peak of physical condition, but living in very close quarters. Most died literally overnight. He was hospitalized for a month, and fortunately, missed the war. And by the way, it was called "Spanish Flu".
Most of the/. crowd is too damn young to remember the major pandemics of the 20th century (Spanish Flu, Polio, TB). Viruses can and will kill a hell of a lot of people in a hurry. Any nice theory to the opposite is obviously developed by people who failed to sudy or remember history. So far we've been damn lucky in the last 30 years. While I'm sure our luck will run out some time, deliberately coming up with an agent that will ENSURE megadeaths is the height of arrogance and stupidity.
If my 75 year old father in law finds SG-1 his favourite show (and he's an old country kind of guy), then there is something there other than the/. fascination. Characters, storyline, a cast you 'care' about. Just like the original ST and STTNG, it's about the characters. Doesn't matter where, when, or what they are. Take 'em and stick them in a small town in the middle of nowhere, and have the situations visit them, and you get the same chemistry.
