until you forget the key?
It was an electronic key that was stored in his e-mail box. Unfortunately due to the expiration of his e-mail, the key was deleted and now he can't access any of his e-mails.
100 megs to 1 gig
Let me ponder on that thought while I delete my 200 + spam mails a day, that I need to sort through manually to inspect that it does not contain any of my friends.
The 200 + spam mails a day is a recent event. About two-three months ago I used to average about 20-40 a day - all of a sudden there was a huge surge.
I won't mind giving Gmail a try and hope their spam filters are better. While I do not mind a skyscraper ad, on the side of my email, I do mind pop-ups/under. I hope that the ads they propose won't contain porn/hate websites....it would be annoying if I am at work trying to read my email but cannot due to the half naked woman to the right of my e-mail.
Thats not totally true. Sometimes I keep old e-mails for reference (i.e. any online purchases), contacts, etc. Yes I could transcribe them, but I would prefer, at times to keep the e-mail and should have the right.
I do not think it is a solution to just delete emails that are old.
While having white lists are useful, they are not totally useful - especially for those who get more desired emails then spam emails, or for those who utilize services such as craigslist.org, ebay, etc. and sometimes get unknown emails.
Also, does yahoo have a white list? Someone in the past told me that if you place an email in your address book, it is considered white list material, however, I have found that this does not always work (if it does at all).
While we cannot block every domain name (i.e. if you get spam from $#(*$#sexphreak@yahoo.com) because it will alienate your legitimate contacts, there are many domain names that we can block (i.e. @spam-your-gmail.com). Yahoo provides email/domain name blocking, but limits this to 100 (unless you are paying). Do we know if gmail will have this limitation?

*just for those who didn't know, the above domain names and email accounts are random, any resemblence to an actual domain or email account is purely coincidental, and if you choose to do so, you should sue/., not me:)
Testing occurs at all points through the process. This raw data needs to be "processed" & "reviewed" so that viable results can be determined. Once people have these results, they can try and come up with fixes for it.
The fact that this guy posted, on hise website, for the net-world to see is just his way of giving the net-world an update. On a personal note, I think it was nice of him to do such. Especially since he will have to kill that e-mail account after giving it to/. people, who I am sure are running to the best and brightest spam servers and submitting his name;)
check some indie stuff out, it's music by people for people
So who/what makes non-indie music? My toaster? When I was younger I used to say I liked specific types of music: Alternative, Rock, a little bit of rap, classical. Eventually I would find songs that broke the rules: Garth Brooks (country), Phantom of the Opera (classical/opera), etc.
Now I like what is played - the only time I care about classifying a song is for my Media player. Other then that, a song is good - not necessarily because of the label, the artist, or the type of music - a song is good because the *individual* listening to it thinks it is good.
The only thing this will do is make it so music labels can get their specific music played more. While it sucks in one respect, it helps the radio industry. In the long run, though, IMHO things will balance out. The radio stations will play a combination of "free" music and "paid" music.
Change the radio station?
The other day I was in my car, out of my top 6 stations (preset) there was not one song that I liked. So I put in a CD...problem solved.
So what? So the record labels pay to have their songs played more. Good, let them spend the money on the radio industry. Barring those in upper positions, people in the radio industry make DIRT for money. Most DJ's barely make 18k a year, and that is for putting in some crazy hours. Only a rare few make good money. Generally, to make decent money in the radio industry you need to work there for a decade or more, and that is in a non-air position. Hopefully some of this money will filter down to the DJ's (especially those on the graveyard shifts who make very little cash), and other low paid tech staff.
I do not think this is underhanded - other industries pay to have their material played - and if its good for them it should be good for the labels.
P.S. Yes I do hate what they record industry is doing in other topics (backing up songs, price fixing, etc...) but in this case, i see no problems.
I'm thinking its more along the lines of - if we do not help find security holes, then we are giving less amunition to hackers. The only problem with the hypothesis is it assumes hackers only gain this "ammunition" through legitimate coders who are trying to find vulnerabilities. In fact, as all of us know, hackers do find security holes on their own, without help from other people.
then someone who wants to do the real hacking will find them. If a malicious hackers finds the security hole, then he/she might utilize it, and they won't be nice enough to give us a patch to protect against it.
So since the holes are there, lets find them and patch them BEFORE some malicious programmer does.
Finding security holes is a good choice, making patches for security holes is a better choice, actually UTILIZING these patches for security holes is the BEST choice...unless you want to be on Citibank Identity theft commercials:)
How do you know the hackers did what they did because they were disgrunteled about the release date? Unless you have some inside knowledge that nobody else has, you made a presumptuous statement.
Sometimes hackers do what they do for no other reason then to just do it. They may want a copy of the game before everyone else. They may want to sell it. THey may want to give it, find cheats, brag, and a plethora (yes I am using plethora dammit):) of other reasons.
Though I do agree, that I would rather have a higher quality game then have it faster and "half" assed:) Heh half life...half assed I'm funny;)
What does Prince Charles know about nanotechnology that grants him the right to warn us? Remember, being that he is a prince and future king his word's DO have influence (as you stated). So this person needs to be extremely careful as to what he says - and if he is going to make a statement he needs to be well informed.
So what are his qualifications? Did he read major, unbiased reports or is he using his feelings?
How much energy does something the size of an atom require? Can they not use the electro charges running through our bodies? Yes this sounds very "Matrix"y, but we do have electricity (measurable amounts) running through us daily. I would venture it could be extracted.
Hmm would this cause us to be lethargic? Would it divert needed energy that goes to the brain so the nantechs can do their job? WOuld that mean we would have to consume more food (is that possible in the US)?
Questions, that bring up more questions, that bring up more questions.
Why can't the machines extract the electrochemical charges that run through our bodies? Similar to the concept of the Matrix, but I am being serious and realistic. These things are so small, they only need a small amount of energy.
Hmm on that note, so we will all be healthy, but lethargic? Does this mean we will all have to start eating more (is that possible in the US?)
Problems, problems, problems....
Prince Charles, too, has voiced his concerns about the potential risks of nanotechnology.
Like anyone gives a rats a$$ about what Prince Charles thinks, especially with regards to the scientific community...
See, things like this can ruin a perfectly good article. The amount of credibility this article had, in my mind, went from a good decent amount to almost ZERO.
Can we give an Off-TOpic mod to the article for including Prince Charles.
I think the original article was referring to the release of Duke Nukem Forever - they probably have some wicked graphics that look just like real people...
I've been on/. for a number of months now, and i have been trying (casually) to figure out what it means when someone says a website has been "/.'ed"
Would someone please let me know, and while you're at it, don't be an insensitive clod (unless its funny):)
I don't care if they want to name it by processing speed, bus speed, or hell how much donkey speed it has - i just want it to be consistent!!!
That means give me Intel processor 1, then the future processor named Intel Processor 2 WILL be better then the first one, and the third one will be better, etc.
Stop coming out with funky new names to confuse me (and the less informed computer users, which i am probably in that category).
If I want to look at the specs I will, but at least make it easy for people to realize which processor is the latest and greatest!
I think the worst case for this is some of the graphics cards - whats better the 9600 version or the FX version or the super version or the crack version?
Come on, have some sympathy on us ----damn marketers!
says processor chip speed is old news
Half the posts on/. already say this... I saw two different posts today from different topic headers, one was from the Apple post on the G5
