The concept of "right" and "wrong" is a concept that we give value to. Not every person on this planet agrees totally on what is "right" and "wrong." Some cultures believe it is "right" for pre-arranged marriages, some believe its "right" for prostitution, some believe it is "right" to end someones life if they are suffering....others do not.
So, considering we cannot agree on what is "right" or what is "wrong" I am not holding much expectation on an alien species to agree with us. Now if they are a species that has come and advanced through their civilization (not necessarily superior to us) then I would think they would have some concept of "right" or "wrong." It would be kind of hard for them to survive if they constantly killed each other - then again they might think ANYONE over the age of 45 needs to die (which would really suck if 5 of their years equalled to 1 of our years)....
Luckily I'm not Christian...:)
In all seriousness our culture, by its very nature, would rather destroy (or attempt to) something then bow down to it. While there will be a bunch of people out there who will worship anything that shows itself as different - most of us will not.
The funny thing is, this made MacWorld news... what does that say about Mac users? If someone wrote into Microsoft I believe they would just laugh in his face, and hang up the phone.
coughDUMBASScough...
This is about as bad as when I heard a customer complain to Blockbuster that the DVD they rented was scuffed and they couldn't burn it...
I would leave, just for the adventure:)
Though I think fundamentalist Muslims are not about leaving, just about occupying a space they argue belongs to them and having everyone else leave...
They wouldn't have left their planet though (for those reasons). They might have sent "pioneers" out to expand their civilization. Unless their planet became uninhabitable for some reason, the planet would keep it's inhabitants and those that wanted to travel to the next "destination" would go. However, leaving a planet that is habitable just because is not a good enough reason - it is extremely difficult to do (not just the resources, but trying to convince the people to leave).
Unlike Sim Earth I doubt anyone would leave their home world as a natural preserve:)
Or they might have stuck around their, already, developed planet? But the amount of time it takes for the information to travel the message we receive could have been sent ions ago from a civilization that no longer exists...
What ever happend to sub space telecommunications?

bwahahahaahah! Yea right. Is it April fools? Sorry, I just don't buy into the thought process that third world nations are going to dictate to the worlds last remaining super power what software to use...Bill Gates himself has more money then some of these countries put together!
I always took those reports with a grain of salt and enjoyed them as bits of entertainment. I remember when the "face" came out. I was in my high school science club and we had a scientist from NASA show up to our school. He gave us this pretty neat (geek alert) report discussing the face.
Just remember, half of what you hear is a lie, the other half is a mistake.
But what if I do not want to carry my camera with me? Better yet, what if I needed a camera on the fly? What if I do not feel like carrying a camera AND a PDA (cumbersome, especially in nice weather when wearing shorts with no pockets).
I have used my phone to take many pictures where I did not have my camera - for amusement (this one girl had the words "Animal Liberation" tattooed on her back...she let me take a picture of it, my friend in CA got a good laugh. I am in PA) and real practical purposes (I took a picture of a broken parking meter that I tried shoving money into.)
They have their uses - luckily there are many choices, and you can still get a "free" phone with the cell phone companies that has minimal features. When I bought my phone I only wanted it for the blue tooth; I thought the camera was a waste....the camera is a nice feature though.

Sniping, IMHO, is not too bad of a thing. I have seen and heard stories where people have a dummy account log on and raise the bidding in small increments. If someone were to use eBay's bidding system they could be a victim of this method, but with sniping the auction is checked at the last minute - not much better but a little bit better.

I have one device connected to my cable modem. Comcast supports this device. My router. I pay (a good amount of money) for this bandwidth. My one computer alone cannot use all of this bandwidth. But my laptop, desktop and playstation can do that. So if I choose to utilize the full amount of bandwidth comcast SELLS me I should use it how I see fit (with the exception of illegal activities).
Comcast's typical billing model of PER DEVICE is mainly geared towards TV's, though they do acknowledge people get one cable box (in some areas where required) and connect the rest of the house through a cat-5 cable.
It is funny though, when I tell comcast I do not want the cable box they tell me its not physically possible for me to watch Cable TV without it. Then I tell them I am presently doing that and they get the clueless deer look.
The solution is not voting with our wallets, it's voting by legislation (another problem in and of itself). Face it whats the alternative to Cable Modems? We could use phone lines (I would rather thank Dale McBride for his fund raising initiatives), We could use Satellite (because I like having my service disrupted when a cloud looms over head), or we could use DSL (yea well, no.)
Unfortunately Comcast is the only cable service provider in my area, or I would have gotten rid of them a long time ago!
While this could have beneficial effects, (i.e. Comcast offering better tech support...though from past experience I HIGHLY doubt this.. "Yes we need you to unplug your computer 10 times, do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around."), I can also see the major disadvantages (monitoring my computer, having access to my computer, etc.) While I could prevent this with a firewall (and frankly I hate installing a firewall when I have my nice router firewall) most people just do not know what the deal is with computers and protections.
Eh, while I use comcast (not really a better choice in my area) I can't say that I like them.
File trading has been happening before iTunes and online music stores, and file trading will continue to happen after.
By forcing people to purchase CD's at stores (through increased online purchases) the RIAA is paying extra for CD's, CD cases, CD covers, shipping, storage, building costs, man power, etc...
So they want MORE money for doing LESS work. They are a bunch of jerk offs (as well know).
Shouldn't there be a collusion/price fixing/anti trust suit against these guys for their actions?
In the article they talk about why they are not using the technology. Something to the effect of that they haven't finished getting their returns on silicon...So they are holding progress to "recoup" costs on technology that should be legacy material.
When are the processor companies goign to invest in the diamond wafers?
- Diamond Age
Now that will be a great way to get that processor speed up, and not worry about the silicon melting.
[Yes I expect this to be modded down for redundency];)
Master system...that was Sega right? I remember when Sega was out - I had a lot of friends who picked Sega. At the time, if memory serves me right (which it might not)...Sega was more sports based (which my friends loved way more then me) and Nintendo was more RPG/Story Action (i.e. Ninja Gaiden, metroid, etc.)

Didn't buy the GBA, still played the games though. I even bought FF Mystic quest (it has been years, i believe that is the one where all the monsters are shown on the screen).
Yea some of the PS and PS2 titles are a shame, and honestly, if not for FF I would not own a PS or PS2. Nintendo games tend to be "pastelly" and geared towards younger kids. And just as the articles talk about, it's a limited income market. They could have dominated so well, expecially with their past sucess, if they would have kept a good balance of kiddie games and "adult" games.
``This is yet another example highlighting Rambus' pattern of using litigation as its only real business model,'' said Christoph Liedtke, an Infineon
So this explains where SCO got their business model from...
