Anyone can surf the Canadian store. You need a credit card with a Canadian address in order to purchase from the Canadian shop. I have been purchasing tracks from the US store here in Canada for the past year with my US based credit card. There are all sorts of loopholes like this in online shopping.
That's a good write-up. The best line is:
But this triumph was also the last hurrah. Buran would never fly again. The Soviet Union was crumbling, and the ambitious plans to use Buran to build an orbiting defence shield, to renew the ozone layer, dispose of nuclear waste, illuminate polar cities, colonise the moon and Mars, were not to be.
Still laughing!
You're already being overcharged... Somehow I doubt a switch to the euro would make Apple raise prices in Britain.
Sure a digital download costs the same, but are there different legal systems to deal with. I noticed that cds in te UK are much more expensive than anywhere else. Somehow I doubt shipping to the UK doubles the price...
You might have noticed that most businesses do this. Proprietary file formats is just one part. The fear of making products excessively compatible with other companies software is that they could quickly and easliy steal your market share. I work for a large multinational, where file compatability has been the deciding point of not switching software packages. If you were running a business you'd do this also.
I think Microsoft is on the right course here. I pass around docs all the time and use the ever problematic "track changes in word". A wikipedia style approach would be nice, as long as it's usuable and handles images well.
Shell is doing even better than thoose bp turkeys (most of the green stuff bp does is just for show... those solar panels on the gas stations don't even power them...):

The sediment cores brought back were important for dating impacts and establishing methods of dating lunar surfaces. The russians never brought back any of this...
In fact this American data from the moon is used to date the surfaces of Mars.
I remember when hotbot showed up... I thought it was the greatest. The I switched to yahoo, and finally to google. I used inktomi somewhere in there. I have no clue what I was using before hotbot...
It's important to note that Terra kept about 500 million USD in profitable assets after the sale... But $12 billion... wow.
Oh ok... "Reems more hard data". Go look up how many grams of lunar rock the russians retrieved from the moon. I believe it's about 300g. Now lets see, the Americans got back a few hundred kilos, and from various parts of the moon. Hmmm. Photos are NOT hard data!!!
I hate to say it, but most of the insightful comments here are only half true, and some of the answers provided only scratch the surface and miss ALL the important complications. I have spent years reading scientific literature on these topics, and the conversations here highlight 1) the complexity of the problem; 2) the quick/poorly thought out solutions offered; and 3) our lack of understanding of the Earth system.
Go read some more on ocean chemistry and biology folks... I'd explain GEOCARB II, but I don't think most people want to hear anout the modelling side of things!
People ask so many basic questions on slashdot. All these computer geeks know nothing about the world around them.
Even on earth there is isotope partitioning. Lighter isotopes of water will evaporate preferentially (cause they're lighter). If we're in a glacial stage, these superlights will get deposited in glaciers, and leave the oceans with heavier isotopes of oxygen. Hence oxygen isotope dating... Look it up, the worls around us is very interesting.
Radar detectors are NOT illegal in Canada. It is only illegal to operate one in your vehicle while driving. You can still buy them at car audio stores all over Canada. The RCMP and other police agencies have radar detector detectors (which are very expensive so there are only a few of them on the road).
Yes, someone is probably working on a radar detector detector detector...;-)
As a long time photography enthusiast, having 3 buttons to control that many functions makes using the ccamera very frustrating. When I'm shooting a sailing race, I quickly need to adjust many of the cameras parameters (in less tan 2 seconds). Having 3 buttons may look cool, but is useless from a photography standpoint.
Sure, if you are a point and shoot user, than maybe you want to look at three buttons and say "duh, looky pretty".

As a geoscientist, I can say "pffft, needs more work".
Is a law still valid if it's slashdotted?
all I get is:
Temporary file open error. Display failed.
I think this is the same error Bush got trying to read the constitution...

If you switched to the euro you wouldn't have this problem. Seems obvious enough to me and the rest of europe...
Syquest is the BEST!
Not many people have the drives anymore, making my data very secure.
In fact when I find working drives I break them to insure my security...

I leave my keys on the dash of my unlocked car all the time. This makes remote access so much easier.... pffft
This had no ill effect on Safari, they still have to put in the Safari part of the code...

I felt that way about the last radiohead album. You get a lot of press from incidents like this... I didn't even know they had a new album coming out.
They can be found on Billy Corgan's site.
I think this just promotes a P2P release. Post it and we'll release it, almost a reward to the fans...

Mac portables have antennas built into the edge of the screen. I get much better reception on my apple powerbook, than my thinkpad.
No, because the CRIA has started equivalent actions in Canada.

This is to service people in the Canadian north where DSL and Cable are not possibilities. They have been waiting for High speed for a very long time!
