    It was probably a license-less disc normally bought by volume license holders bundled with a stolen volume licensing key which ended up blacklisted.

    The first proposed amendment to the ISO standard will actually restore Office 2007 documents (which ARE ECMA-376 compliant) to being compliant OOXML Transitional documents. Because the entire point of the Transitional schema for OOXML was to make ECMA-376 documents ISO compliant as well, the modifications made that broke compatibility made absolutely no sense. If they were going to make ECMA-376 documents non-compliant, they should've thrown out the Transitional model and just made the Strict version the ONLY standard.

    The change that made ECMA-376 non-compliant was allowing booleans to only have the value sof "true" and "false" rather than also allowing "on" and "off". A boneheaded change especially considering it was made to the portion of the standard intended to make legacy documents also ISO compliant...

    Office 2007 SP2 supports ODF 1.1.

    The current complete and published OpenDocument format is ODF 1.1. ODF 1.2 is in draft form according to the latest announcements from OASIS. Just because OpenOffice.org is putting out software based on the draft, doesn't mean it's final yet.

    Most consumers are probably not even aware of the lock in until they get bit by it. They know there's this convenient app store they can go to get their apps and there's someone checking them out to make sure they're safe. They probably don't know it's the only option for getting apps.

    If you have any size population, it is inevitable that someone doesn't like how things are being run since it's impossible to please everyone. If nobody is complaining there certainly is something wrong. They're probably just staying quiet for fear of punishment.

    The flaw exists but the default configurations on Windows Vista and Windows 7 will prevent any damage. My understanding is that Microsoft's policy is to classify them as vulnerable because it's possible to run IE7 and IE8 in configurations where they actually are vulnerable (DEP disabled, Protect Mode OFF) even if the default configuration makes them immune to the current exploit.

    And Microsoft better announce *something* regarding Windows Mobile soon. They're already on life support, it's not going to be long before someone pulls the plug on the whole division.

    Microsoft has committed to continuing Windows Mobile for industrial devices even if they completely fail in the smartphone market. They'll just continue working on it for rugged handheld computers built by Motorola for the likes of Fedex etc.

    Buy a chip from Qualcomm doesn't even protect you from Qualcomm's patents if you forget to setup royalty payments. They're certainly not going to protect you from Nokia.

    Well, Qualcomm as recently as 2005 was charging their own chip customers for additional royalties on top of the price of the chips even when they were buying the chips from Qualcomm itself. It stands to reason that Qualcomm believes that buying a physical chip from them does not convey a patent license to actually use the chip. Why should Nokia?

    That is until developers decide they have uses for the spare CPU cycles and memory. Don't worry, we'll be bogging down 8-core CPUs with 12 GB of RAM like pros within a couple years.

    They already got the money for the card. Essentially anything you'd buy with it was already paid for. Not using the card means you let someone give Wal-Mart free money.

    Suppresses sensations of fullness which would normally prevent overeating. In the United States the stuff is in EVERYTHING that would normally contain natural sugar. It has also been linked to diabetese or at least the same symptoms of diabetese.
