The conclusion? If you are after gaming, multimedia, good WiFi+Bluetooth support, a lot of accessories and versatility, go with Pocket PC. If you are after small and stylish devices with good battery life, simple interface and simple PIM apps, go with PalmOS.
The conclusion? If you want everything, go wih Pocket PC. If you think less is more, go with PalmOS.
I very much dislike it when a company engages in phony accounting. Can you imagine if Microsoft claimed each patch download as a new sale of Windows? Likewise, I dislike it when people misrepresent facts.
Hitting 80 million downloads is not as impressive as it sounds when a lot of those downloads are because FF does not have a patch infrastructure in place.
Please try not to misrepresent. Yes it's true, FF may be downloaded 80 million times, but a certain percentage of those downloads are users upgrading a minor revision, which is effectively downloading a patch.
The Mozilla foundation is not (or should not be) interested in maximizing the number of downloads of the software, but maximizing the number of happy users of their software. That's how they will accomplish their mission: "The mission of the Mozilla project is to preserve choice and innovation on the Internet." ref: http://www.mozilla.org/about/
IMHO, they really got a lot of the engineering right with BeOS that other operating systems (Windows, MacOS) are getting to only now. The doom of Be wasn't just that the internet appliance thing was a distraction, but also that BeOS was either too early, because its features weren't needed yet, or too late, because the OS wars had already concluded.
For those of you that would like a history lesson, Palm ended up buying Be for around $11M and then, on behalf of Be, suing Microsoft and getting around a $22M settlement a few years later.
Before getting started way-back-when, Kevin O'Conner (Chairman, and once CEO) and Dwight Merriman (CTO) of DoubleClick itself forecasted that people would map an advertiser's domain name to 127.0.0.1 in their hosts file to avoid ads, and that people would create ad blockers and cookie blockers.
Why do people waste their time writing software for a 486? Spend $300 and get a new entry-level PC -- and with the time you saved, do something useful.
No, MSN messenger's TOS is not evil like AOL's new TOS.
The.NET Messenger Terms basically say that your use of the service and the content of your communications is considered private. However, if Microsoft needs to comply with the law, protect itself, protect its employees, protect its customers, or protect the public, then it may monitor and/or disclose information about communications you have using the service.
Wow, we've got someone who runs Linux exclusively and is a capitalist?
To Be Or Not To Be? (Ducks!)
> Q. - How many Canadians does it take to build a solar car?
A. - Fourteen, apparently.

The parent was modded Insightful, but someone decided to make it Flamebait.

...and may the best license win.
How about you not reply as Anonymous next time, eh?
I only wish you hadn't posted as Anonymous... so that I might shake your hand.
I was beginning to believe that it's impossible for anyone on Slashdot to communicate something intelligible. Bravo.

As the old saying goes, one man's trash is another man's gold. ...and in this case, it's not even trash.
Ahem, the owner of Slashdot. :-)
You're talking about Be Inc.

Where's BeOS today? Here: http://yellowtab.com/
